We need an equivalent of legally blonde for every movie genre. Give us gritty police dramas with a new generations of Elle woods learning to batter drug lords with phone books. A murder mystery but the detective is an unsuspecting sorority girl who loves pink and think poroit is a kind of shampoo but turns out to be frighteningly adept at solving clues. Just an army of gorgeous women in cute little outfits proving to the world why barbie is an expert in every profession

The Barbie movie has made me openly weep multiple times, and I'm all here for it. Greta Gerwig is an absolute genius.

i love the fact that Weird Barbie is weird.

And I mean this in the sense that, they show the impact the real world has had on this toy, this inanimate object that those playing with viewed as devoid of emotion, incomprehensibly inhuman.

But the alterations, the pain she’s endured has stuck with her, become a part of her. People label her by her struggles, by what she’s been through. Externally, she is different, and it doesn’t matter how she feels internally because she will forever be labeled by her struggles.

She’s embraced it and she’s accepted this piece of herself as a whole, even helping those who perceive themselves as “weird” or “malfunctioning”. She knows how it feels to be out of place, to be thought of in this negative light because you don’t adhere to how Barbie is meant to be — perfect.

She has struggled and her struggles make her wonderful, make her the person she is, that is her real beauty

Yet in the end, Weird Barbie is as much a Barbie as anyone else, as much an embodiment of perfect as one can hope to achieve.

Barbie is Barbie, and no matter her struggles, she is perfect as she is, because perfection is a state of mind. Perfection is what you make it. It is flaws, it is pain and tears. But it also love, it is light and it the happiness you feel knowing you are with flaw — but flaw is what makes you unapologetically yourself, it is what makes you Barbie.

Thank you Greta.

I also love how the Barbie movie takes back Barbie as a positive symbol from all the people who told us that playing with Barbie was such a weak and girly thing to do and that we weren’t strong enough if we did play with her. Basically making her a negative thing. Ruth Handler made Barbie to inspire us girls and to help us feel like we could accomplish anything. I’m so happy the Barbie movie has decided to highlight that as a part of the movie. 🥰

Ok, Like I Get That Casting Meryl Streep As Aslan Is A Weird Choice And, Perhaps, Even A Bit Troubling,

ok, like I get that casting Meryl Streep as Aslan is a weird choice and, perhaps, even a bit troubling, but I truly don’t believe that the most important qualification for an actor voicing Aslan is “have a penis”. Not overjoyed about it but also I know the movies will not stand or fall based on this one casting decision

Little Women (2019) v. Book: the Timelines

I knew before seeing Little Women (2019) that it was going to have a start in the middle approach, something like Jane Eyre (2011) did. Writer/Director Greta Gerwig said (in “A New Generation of Little Women”, the first special feature on the dvd) that she wanted to feature the characters as adults, that in the second part of the book, the chapters are "the adult answer to what happened in childhood", and the film flashes back and forth to line up the storylines, although in this interview, at 1:50 she describes it as two timelines that are both moving forward.

When is Little Women set?

Published 1868 (Book/Part 1, Chapters 1-23) & 1869 (Book/Part 2, Chapters 24-47)

Civil War took place April 12, 1861 – May 9, 1865

Here's a proposed book timeline for the whole series concerning the Marches.

For my book to movie comparison I watched the dvd with subtitles, and text searched lines in the Ebook on Project Gutenberg. You can also search the text in Apple Books and Kindle (and I assume whatever other ebook formats exist) which also have free editions.

I did not make notes of where changes to character or plot were made, just tracking the movie timelines in comparison to book timeline

Timeline 1 (because that's where the film starts) is the later years (Book Part 2)

Timeline 2 is the earlier years (mostly Book Part 1, but towards the ends it catches up with the beginning of Timeline 1, including content from Book Part 2)

Movie: the dvd "scenes" seem to cut in the middle of story scenes, so I've tried to indicate where there's overlap

Scene/Chapter 1 (00:00:00)

I will never be over the absolute irony of how this movie has been treated in the award shows. The golden globes, the critic choice awards...all we need is one more moment from the Oscars and we'll have a perfect trifecta of fuckass blindness.

Like seriously? "I'm Just Ken" was a song quite literally made to be an ironic incel anthem, and they gave that the spotlight? Don't get me wrong, Ryan Gosling gave an excellent performance but even the man himself was baffled.

Like look at his face. That is the look of a man who just realized he is quite literally living the reality of the movie he made and somehow everyone runs face first into the point, and right past it. He wants someone to say "You just got punked!" so bad.

Barbie Tem Seu Mundo Perfeito Em Barbieland, Como Todas As Barbies Por Lá. Mas Um Dia, Em Sua Festa
Barbie Tem Seu Mundo Perfeito Em Barbieland, Como Todas As Barbies Por Lá.

Barbie Tem Seu Mundo Perfeito Em Barbieland, Como Todas As Barbies Por Lá.

Barbie Tem Seu Mundo Perfeito Em Barbieland, Como Todas As Barbies Por Lá. Mas Um Dia, Em Sua Festa

Barbie contou com vários artistas da música para o CD, a minha favorita vocês podem ver aqui em baixo:

She makes me so happy

Like, she’s Lawyer Barbie. She isn’t fat Barbie or a Barbie that has anything to do with food. No, she’s smart and secure and a lawyer.

Anyone who wants to argue with anything said, leave my page. This is so fucking important and it isn’t okay for men to treat such influential female figures such as Barbie and the movie or Taylor Swift as objects to drag down.

jo koy was fucking awful at the golden globes.

Barbie was a movie that celebrated girlhood and womanhood while also managing to acknowledge the difficulties of being a woman. the rant by America Ferrera’s character says it best - to be a woman is to be everything all at once and never be good enough. and jo koy saw this movie and decided “nah fuck this shit” and declared it a movie based on a “plastic doll with big boobs!” after emphasising the importance of Oppenheimer? that completely undermines the statement that Barbie put out there, the relatability it found with its female audience and the hard work of everyone involved. it ignores all of that, and it is disgusting to see this blatant misogyny, especially towards a movie that tackles that very topic.

the Taylor Swift joke was unnecessary. you cannot deny that Taylor Swift is an incredibly influential woman, and it is so annoying seeing her still being dragged down for a low joke. all she did was attend the awards ceremony and her love life was dragged up - not to coo or celebrate - but to laugh at. to make fun of her. it’s been a repeating theme of her career - being asked about love when in fact she is, on her own, more influential than any of the men she’s dated. but it’s never about her, it’s always about them, because men can’t comprehend that women can and will exist without them. Taylor Swift deserves better, she had the right to be at this awards ceremony without being dragged into this misogynistic shit.

so fuck you, jo koy. you never deserved such a high-profile platform and should never have one again.

barbie movie is releasing soon & i just remembered an anecdote from my childhood.

i grew up in a conservative town where gender roles & stereotypes were barely questioned. my neighbor was a boy. he was 5. i was 8. he walked into our living room as i was watching the beginning of barbie princess charm school. my grandmother came after a while & asked if he watched barbie & not ben 10.

"omg she's so cool she wiped the tables, cooked & served customers so fast in 10 seconds she's a superhuman!!" he exclaimed & continued watching as long as his attention span of a 5 y/o could take.

misogyny is not inherent. misogyny is taught. understand that.

greta gerwig really said. when this girl gets a little sad and confused by the weird and complicated and uncomfortable parts of being human and growing up, she meets god and sits at her kitchen table, drinks her tea, holds her hands. and she asks god if she’s allowed to be happy. and god tells her she doesn’t need her permission. she tells her she’s going to be okay.
