Michael Canning at Oliver Sears

๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด๐Ÿชด

I attended the opening the Michael Canning's exhibition 'Les Yeux' tonight at the Oliver Sears Gallery, 33 Fitzwilliam Square Upper, Dublin 2 tonight. The event was quiet and informal. I loved Micheal's paintings of plants set against plain backgrounds. The fine detail of the twigs and leaves contrasted with the simplicity of sky and minimalist landscapes. His three small paintings of tree trunks intrigued me. To my eye, they were a new development in his work. His exhibition will run until 13th June 2025.

John Short at Solomon

I attended the opening of John Short's exhibition 'Horizons' at Solomon Fine Art, Balfe Street, Dublin 2 tonight. The venue was packed.

I enjoyed viewing John's loose and spontaneous paintwork. He painted his paintings with watercolours and ink while including collage in some of them. My favourite paintings were wide and panoramic.

He had included four large ceramic pieces in his exhition. It was nice to see that he was trying a new medium to work in.

Spring Exhibition at Solomon Fine Art

There was plenty of variety of artworks at the opening of the Spring Exhibition at Solomon Fine Art, Balfe Street, Dublin 2. Work included figurative and abstract sculptures. The same variation with the paintings on show. Attached are photos of a few of my favorite artworks.

Mc Kendry at Gorry Gallery

I attended the packed opening of Kenny Mc Kendry' exhibition 'Rathlin, Portrait of an Island and Other Works' at the Gorry Gallery, 20 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. Kenny's paintings had a lovely sense of light in them. Many if them seemed to glow especially the seascapes. His portraits had plenty of personality. The faces well observed. His exhibition will run until 11th Apr 2025.

Brian Harte at the Molesworth Gallery

I attended the opening of Brian Harte's exhibition 'To The Harbour Place' at the Molesworth Gallery, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2 tonight. Most memorable, I found were his use of colours, especially blue, yellow and green. His paintings, done in oil on linen, appeared enigmatic. They featured interior scenes with abstracted figures in them.

My favourite painting was 'Heat' with its combination of yellow, red and orange.

I also enjoyed viewing 'Alt (4 Person)' and 'P.Chair' hanging side by side with their complimentary colours.

Other paintings that I liked were 'Untitled' with its expanse of sky blue and 'M & J' due to sections of yellow and orange.

To my eye, it evoked the sense of a wet day.

Van der Grijn at the Solomon

Tonight, I attended the opening of Clรฉa Van der Grijns exhibition 'Orbiva at Solomon Fine Art, Balfe Street, Dublin 2 D02 T802.

Her paintings, mixed media on linen or wood are colorful especially the reds and pinks. My favorite painting was Boschian Lush #2 featuring two hearts or arms.

Van Der Grijn At The Solomon

In 'Boschian Lush #3' which I also loved, I saw the bottom half of a dancer.

Van Der Grijn At The Solomon

Clรฉa has also created a series of eight digital embroideries including 'Boschian Lush #1', top left.

Van Der Grijn At The Solomon

It was a very enjoyable evening. Well worth the effort of going. Clรฉa's exhibition will run onto 29th Mar 2025.

Vera Klute at the Molesworth

I have attended the opening of 'Petals and Pulp', Vera's Klute's exhibition at the Molesworth Gallery, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. ๐ŸŒณ Her paintings done in oil on linen or digital watercolour show woodland scenes, foulage and individual flowers. ๐ŸŒป I was impressed with the amount of detail that Vera had included in her paintings. A particular example is one of her larger paintings called 'Clearing' which features lots of fallen branches amongst trees. ๐ŸŒฒ I also loved 'Lustre', a painting of foliage due to its vibrant colours. ๐Ÿต Vera has also included a couple of Jesmonite on concrete sculptures in her show. Her exhibition will run until 23rd Dec 2024.

Winstanley at the Kerlin

Tonight, I attended 'Arcadia', the opening of Paul Winstanley's latest exhibition at the Kerlin Gallery, Anne's Lane, Dublin 2. His paintings, oil on linen or oil on panel were the right sizes for their subject matter. The larger artworks like 'Landscape With Clouds II' (2024) looked majestic but were too dark and brown for my liking. โ›ฐ Paul's smaller paintings from his body of work, 'The Falls' featuring waterfalls had more movement and colour in them. ๐Ÿ’ง My favourite painting was 'Veil 30' (2024) which comprised a closed net curtain with a landscape beyond it. Paul's exhibition will run until 18th Jan 2025. ๐Ÿ“ฐ It was well worth going.

He had covered his artwork with tiny dots made with laser cut stencils. I particularly enjoyed viewing his yellow painting like Tired of Buttoning and Unbottoning' I - IV. His exhibition will run until 30th Nov 2024.

Christine Loh at Reds

Tonight, I attended the opening of 'Unity', Christine Loh's exhibition at Reds Gallery, 21 Dawson Street, Dublin 2 D02 TK33. Christine's paintings were large, colourful and chearful. Most of them featured flowers. The venue was busy. People came and went. My favourite painting was 'Miracle Blossom'. It reminded me of Van Gogh's Sunflowers. Reds Gallery was up about three flights of stairs but was well worth the climb. Christine's exhibition will run until 13th Nov 2024.

Neal Greig at Gormleys

I also attended Neal Greig's opening at Gormleys, 27 Fredrick Street South, Dublin 2 D02 EP03 which was just as enjoyable. His exhibition of rugged and wild seascapes were full of energy and a pleasure to view. However, I loved his three paintings 'June River Butonne', 'Dream Lake' and 'Butonne River'. They were peaceful and, to my eye, evoked scenes of the Mangrove Swamps in and around Florida. Neal's show will run Until 29th Oct 2024.

Meave Mc Carthy at the Molesworth

I had attended the opening of Meave Mc Carthy's exhibition 'Recollective Spaces at the Molesworth Gallery, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. It was busy and had a friendly atmosphere. People came from and went to other events. Meave painted her oil paintings on linen, board or even panels. Her style was maticulous especially when it came to her buildings, raods and flowers. The world is at peace in her nocturnal images. Her portrayal of light under a night sky appealed to me. I thought that her large artwork 'Open Window' was the most striking. It's a change to look into a brightly lit interior rather than out at a sun drenched exterior. Her smaller painting 'Towards the mountain' was the most atmospheric. To my eye, it appeared to be a quiet moonlit scene. Her show will run until 31st Oct 2024.

Dermot Seymour at Kevin Kavanagh

Tonight, I attended the opening of Dermot Seymour's 'The Nine Primates of Ulster' at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Chancery Lane, Dublin 8. The event began with Dermot conversing with Martin Mackin before answering questions from an audience about his work. Afterwards, the atmosphere was relaxed with plenty of chat.

Each of Dermot's paintings featured the portrait of a different species of money or ape. He did not specify any of these species in the titles of his paintings. The faces and eyes of these animals were painted in sharp expressive detail while their shoulders and background appeared more blurred and abstract. I liked 'Primate of Cavan' and 'Primate of Monaghan' due to their compositions. Dermot's show will run until 12th Oct 2024.

Conor Foy at the Molesworth

Tonight, I attended the opening of Conor Foy's exhibition 'Bang Bang' at the Molesworth Gallery, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. The venue was busy and had a relaxed pleasant atmosphere. I was intrigued that Conor had painted all of his paintings on birch panels. Most of his artworks feature small groups of people located in plain backgrounds like 'Gold Comfort', three figures huddled together against a gold leaf expanse. Some paintings evoke snowy scenes eg 'JB' and '3'. I particularly liked Conor's portraits such as 'Red Cap', 'Boy Golden' and '2024'. His exhibition will run until 28th Sept 2024.

Eamin's paintings were colourful and comprised landscapes and interiors. I loved his use of yellow, blue and pink. My favourite painting that I had managed to see was 'Moon Orchard' which features to my eye, a large pink heart. Eamon's exhibition will run until 21st Sept 2024. It was well worth going.

Kathy Tynan at Kevin Kavanagh

Tonight, I attended the opening of Kathy Tynan's exhibition 'Meantime' at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Chancery Lane, Dublin 8. The event was well attended with a lively noisy atmosphere. Plenty of chatter indoors and out.

Many of Kathy's paintings have a flattened perspective like that of Henri Matisse. There were some lovely scenes like that of two geese in a painting called 'Almost Over a Year. My favorite painting was 'In the Blue Behind Eyes' which just featured a figure and shadow on a swirling background.

Kathy's exhibition will continue until 9th Sept 2024.

Mark Francis at the Kerlin

This evening, I attended the opening of Mark Francis' exhibition 'Accustic Oceans' at the Ketlin Gallery, Anne's Lane, South Anne Street, Dublin 2. The venue was packed with a lively atmosphere. There was plenty of chat.

The colours in Mark's paintings shimmered against each other. These compositions were created with vertical narrow stripes in pale and dark colours. I liked his red and black paintings such as 'Subtonic' and 'Dubmagnet'. They appeared, to my eye, extra rich and warm.

Mark's exhibition will run until 24th Aug 2024. It was well worth going.

Spring at the Solomon

Tonight, I attended the opening of the Spring Group Show at Solomon Fine Art, Balfe Street, Dublin 2 D02 T802 beside the Westbury Hotel. The venue was packed. I didn't get to see everything.

However, I loved the simplicity of 'Broighter Boat IV' (2024) by John Behan, the detail in 'Four Lamb Loin Chops' (2024) and the character of 'Nabresina Playtime' by Michael Quain. I enjoyed the curvy lines of 'Trust Issues' by Orla de Bri and the eye-catching qualities of 'Untitled 37302' (2005) by Carbon Walker. The atmosphere at Solomon Fine Art was very lively. There was plenty of beautiful sculptures and paintings to view. The show will continue until 27th Apr 2024. It was well worth the effort of going.
