My Parasyte Maxim Review

I finished PM a few days ago and had a great time watching it. I practically binged the second half of it.

Almost every aspect of the show was great, especially the protagonist. Shinichi was one of best protagonist I’ve seen so far. His path of losing and finding his humanity intrigued me. I think the only problems I had was the last two episodes and the female characters. But these are minor issues compared to the great things the anime did.

I didn’t care much for the last two episodes because I didn’t have much of a connection or intrigue with the villains. People say the villain has to be somewhat as good as the protagonist and Gotou and Uragami weren’t as great characters as Shinichi. The episodes were still good but not as much as some previous episodes.

Next issue was the female characters. I don’t know what I expected from Satomi Murano, Shinichi’s love interest, but I found her kind of bland and her constantly asking Shinichi if he was himself got annoying after a few times. I understand the symbolism, yet it still irked me for a while. Kana was another girl I didn’t like too much. Her obsession with Shinichi and ignoring the dangers of her “gift” was irksome. Her stalking also made me uncomfortable. Though I still felt bad when she died. Lastly, Yuko’s decision to confront Hideo instead of telling her brother what was going on added a bad taste in my mouth for a while. That action felt so out of character since Yuko was being smart when putting the pieces together that Hideo was a parasite. I have to take a break from the show after that episode.

Overall, with minor issues, I consider PM as one of the best anime I’ve watched. It was perfect, though really close.

shinyuu always put so much trust in that manic panic pixie, i don’t even think she knew what the plan really was until that moment. the colors are a tad more desaturated than what i remember but that’s alright

made a celebretory meme, haven’t recovered anything with sukeban in it yet so i just used my fanart lol

(also we can totally talk about how yandev just yoinked her up and split her in half to make fumetsu and osana but that’s a topic for another day)

anyone remember Shujinko Chan’s Third Eye Club?

the whole goncharov resurgance on tiktok and tumblr inspired me to look at something i used to watch as a kid even though i proably shouldn't have and do some drawing. i did a lil digging and found the og logo in both english and japanese, sadly not much was there other than that. it's a phsycological horror about a club of girls in highschool who are the only ones that know their world is fictional and the protagonist shujinko would try to start antics to entertain the audience to prevent cancelation to either the annoyance or pity by her club mates who wasn’t Shinyuu who helped her with her schemes, it was kind of like ddlc but less romance and way more existential. it was pretty short only, had 1 season. oh, and everyone was named after their role in the story. anyone else remember it or is it just me? And if you do, we could possibly try to find more remnants of this lost gem. until then, i will likely just keep drawing and digging on my own.
