Apocalypse

The first time Ethel saw Eddie perform live, it was from backstage, tucked in the shadows where no one could see her. The energy of the crowd was electric, a thousand voices screaming his name, hands reaching, desperate for even the smallest piece of him. But he was untouchable, all sweat and leather and raw power, his guitar a weapon, his voice a battle cry.

She should have expected it, but still, it knocked the breath out of her.

She wasn’t the only one watching. There were others—groupies, roadies, industry people—but none of them saw him the way she did. None of them knew the boy beneath the stage lights, the one who got nervous before every show, who doodled in the margins of hotel notepads, who laughed until he was breathless over the dumbest jokes.

When the set ended, when the last chord rang out and the lights dimmed, he practically ran offstage, his chest heaving, hair wild with sweat. And the second he saw her, standing there with her arms crossed and that half-smile he was starting to crave, he grinned.

“How’d I do?” he asked, voice rough, still caught in the adrenaline.

She took a step closer, trailing a fingertip down the collar of his leather jacket. “You were alright.”

He scoffed, pulling her in by the waist, pressing his lips to hers. “Liar.”

She laughed, and then he was kissing her, his hands slipping beneath the thin fabric of her dress, fingertips pressing into her skin like he was afraid she’d disappear. The noise of the venue faded, drowned out by the pounding of their hearts. It was reckless. Addictive.

Later that night, curled up in the dim glow of his hotel room, she traced lazy patterns on his bare chest, the sound of his slowed breathing filling the silence. “You’re kind of unreal, you know that?” she murmured.

He caught her hand, pressing a kiss to her wrist. “You make me feel real.”

And just like that, she was his favorite addiction.

Tejano Blue

They didn’t plan on seeing each other again.

But a week later, Eddie was in a different city, a different hotel, the air thick with cigarette smoke and the hum of a mixtape playing from his Walkman, when his hotel phone buzzed.

Ethel: you left your lighter in my coat. guess that means you owe me another late night.

He grinned at the note, thumbing the paper before grabbing the rotary phone beside his bed and dialing the number scrawled at the bottom.

“Hello?” Her voice was warm, like honey melting in tea.

“Guess I do,” he said, smirking into the receiver.

The next time they met, it was on the rooftop of some high-rise, the city stretched out beneath them like spilled ink. She was wrapped in a leather jacket way too big for her, one of his, even though she swore she wasn’t cold. Eddie watched as she lit a cigarette with the stolen lighter, the flame flickering against her face.

“You stole that,” he said, watching her take a slow drag.

She exhaled smoke into the night, eyes glinting. “Finders keepers.”

He laughed, shaking his head, then tugged her closer by the lapels of his own damn jacket. “Gonna have to take it back, then.”

She let him kiss her. Let him press his hands to her waist, fingertips tracing the silk beneath the leather. Let him memorize the taste of nicotine and something honey-sweet on her lips.

They sat on the edge of the building, the city sprawling beneath them like a glittering ocean. He played a song on his acoustic guitar, one he hadn’t finished yet, and she hummed along, swaying lightly, her bare knee pressed against his. When the night deepened, she fell asleep on his shoulder, and Eddie just sat there, staring at the skyline, knowing he was in deeper than he’d meant to be.

Eddie thought maybe, just maybe, he was in trouble.

Champanges Coast

Eddie Munson was a rockstar now. The kind who had stadiums chanting his name, who grinned from magazine covers with rings on every finger and a cigarette hanging from his lips. But some things never changed—he still played his guitar like he was exorcising ghosts, still laughed too loud, still never really believed any of this was real.

Then he met Ethel.

She was the kind of beautiful that felt like an accident, something effortless and wild, like ink bleeding into water. An up-and-coming supermodel, fresh off the Paris runways, with sleepy eyes and a voice like a sigh. They met at some party neither of them wanted to be at—dim lights, neon flickering against velvet walls, the smell of expensive perfume and liquor hanging in the air. Eddie had been lingering by the bar, nursing a whiskey on the rocks, when she walked past him, draped in something silk and barely-there, and smirked like she knew a secret he didn’t.

“Not your scene?” she asked, leaning beside him, her presence electric.

He snorted. “What gave it away?”

She shrugged, taking a sip of her cocktail. “You look like you’d rather be anywhere else.”

“Not anywhere,” he said, and he didn’t know why he said it, but the way she looked at him made him feel like maybe he meant it.

They ended up sneaking out together. Ditching the party for the city streets, where the air was cold and sharp, where they could breathe again. The neon signs buzzed above them, painting their skin in flickers of pink and blue. They walked with no real direction, just the sound of their footsteps on wet pavement and the occasional flicker of a passing car. Eddie told her about the first time he played in front of a crowd, how he was shaking so bad he thought he’d drop his guitar. She told him about the first time she walked a runway, how the lights were so blinding she felt like she was floating.

“Still get nervous?” she asked, her voice soft.

“Every damn time.”

She grinned. “Me too.”

They ended up in some tiny 24-hour diner, sharing a plate of fries, Blondie playing softly on the jukebox. She slipped off her heels, stretching her legs across the cracked vinyl booth, her bare foot nudging against his under the table. He could still smell her perfume, something floral and sweet, and when she laughed, it curled around him like cigarette smoke.

“You’re not what I expected,” she said, tilting her head, watching him like she was trying to figure him out.

“Oh yeah? What’d you expect?”

She smirked. “More… rockstar.”

He scoffed. “Trust me, sweetheart, I’m plenty rockstar.”

“Mm.” She pretended to consider. “I don’t know… I think you might just be a boy with a guitar.”

Eddie leaned in, smirking right back. “Lucky for you, I’m both.”

And maybe it was the late hour, or the cheap diner coffee, or the way her eyes held the city lights in them, but when she reached across the table, lacing her fingers through his, Eddie Munson, rockstar, completely forgot about the rest of the world.

enemies to lovers (slow burn)

events of upside never happened.

face claims for Miranda and Mark are Maryl streep and robert di naro

border/lace credit to @benkeibear

the songs mentioned and lyrics are current songs. they ARE NOT MINE. i will be listing the songs in a separate post. but imagine whatever song in a rock/metal sound.

Hate Myself For Loving You!

1989!

“absolutely fucking not.” Eddie scoffed as he glared and Mark, Corroded Coffins manager. The rest of the guys stayed absolutely quiet. “and why not Munson? mind you ever since you two started out they’ve always been on top of us no matter what! so what could possibly make you not want to make a song together! you both play the same genre so what the fuck is the problem now Munson?” Mark said as he glared at Eddie. “Problem is they are a fucking disgrace to rock music! simple.” Eddie said as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“fuck no!” y/n said as she stared at Stacey in complete disgust, The girls looking over at y/n knowing the exact reason for her outburst. “and why not?” Miranda asked raising her eyebrows at y/n which wasn’t a good sign. “because… we always top their songs on the charts! we’d be doing them a favour if anything.” y/n said as she crossed her hands over her chest. Miranda wasn’t convinced. she knew there was a reason. but she just couldn’t put her finger on it.

“he threw a whole tantrum, said that he refused to sing with a bunch of disgraces to the rock world as he put it” Mark said over the phone as Miranda walked down the halls of their record label, walking back to her office as her assistant followed her. “threatening wouldn’t work….” Miranda mumbled as she moved to sit on her chair, behind her desk “i’m all out of ideas Miranda.” Robert huffed as Miranda rubbed the bridge of her nose “i’ll call you back Mark” Miranda said as she ended the call and stared at the frame on her desk. a picture of all the girls when they won their first grammy.

Eddie walked out the building and rolled his eyes as their cameras began flashing. it was a well known fact all over the world that Eddie munsons biggest enemy was paparazzi. they annoyed him too much. he put his glasses on before walking over to his car, pushing through the large crowd as he made it inside his car and drove off, not giving a fuck who was where. he just wanted to go home and relax. he took a glance at his glove box. knowing exactly what he’d hid in there. when he moved to open it he took a glance back at the street only to press on the break

Hate Myself For Loving You!

1986!

Eddie ran through the hallways of hawkins, in his first, was a paper. hes going to graduate. the most important thing right now was to find her and tell her that he’d done it. that he’d passed. he’d gotten to her locker right when she did, he wrapped his arms around her and spun her around before slamming his lips against hers as she let out a fit of giggles. once he put her down he looked at her as he wore the biggest smile she’d ever seen on his face. “what?” y/n giggled as she licked her lips, wiping off her red lipstick from Eddie’s face.

“i’m fucking graduating. i passed!” Eddie smiled as he handed y/n the paper, she grabbed it her smile soon after copying the same one he had on his face. “you did it! i’m so proud of you!” she smiled as she hugged him tightly. Eddie wrapped his arms around her waist again as he felt her arms around his neck. he took in her scent as he kissed the side of her head. “and since i did, i’m taking you out for dinner and then a lovely two course desert back at my place” he teased as he bumped their noses, causing y/n to smile as she gave him a peck “i’m not apposed to the idea” she smiled before watching as Dustin ran over to the two

Hate Myself For Loving You!

“watch it ya fucking asshole!” y/n yelled as she had pulled Robin back from getting run over, therefore their coffee landing all over the road. the girls were too caught up in making sure they were ok that they hadn’t noticed who the driver was. Eddie had noticed who he almost ran over, his face fell for a moment before he hit the gas and sped off. y/n glared at the car from the back cursing under her breath “i hate new yorkers.” y/n said as Robin chuckled “if you haven’t realised we are new yorkers” Robin said to which y/n rolled her eyes

“you wanna get another coffee?” Robin asked as y/n shrugged “sure, the asshole ruined mine anyway” she said as she put her hands back into her leather coats jacket as she and robin walked back into the store. Eddie gulped as he’d realised who he almost ran over, he rubbed his chest as he felt it tighten. their time together bringing tears to his eyes. it was all his fault. she hated him and it was his fault. she would never believe him. he missed her. ached for her. Eddie turned the radio on in hopes of it changing his mood. but he was met with her voice booming through the stereo. it was the song that made Glass Army the band that it is today. the song came out right after Corroded coffin released their first single, Vampire. which was dedicated to y/n. “up next! Glass Army’s hit song, I don’t care!” the radio host said as the song started.

Eddie remembers vividly the first time he heard the song. the hurt in y/n’s voice in the recording. which was kept in. it was her response to Vampire and Eddie knew it, because the cover of Vampire was a polaroid of y/n’s hand on Eddie’s guitar. her face didn’t show, it was just her hands around the neck of his guitar. they took the picture after y/n jokingly got long nails with bats on them for their prom. they looked great and that’s why Eddie took the picture, she had slipped on all his rings too. but the cover image to i don’t care was a bunch of polaroids, on fire. one of the polaroids were of Eddie’s old van and their tree carvings. of course, the E in the picture was burnt out but Eddie knew.

Hate Myself For Loving You!

1986!

y/n giggled as Eddie inspected each nail “that’s so fucking cool baby” Eddie chuckled as y/n smiled, moving to peck his lips before grabbing his hands and slipping his rings off, if this was in any other instance with someone else, Eddie would’ve caused a scene at his rings being taken, but it was y/n. he’d give her his soul and organs if she asked. y/n laid on Eddie’s bed as she grabbed sweetheart from next to her, placing it on her as she wrapped her hands on its neck in a way to show off her nails, Eddie grabbed his camera and snapped a bunch of pictures.

Wayne smiled as he heard their giggles through the walls. Eddie put the guitar and camera aside before he climbed on top of y/n, his hands on either side of her head, his lips ghosting hers as she stared into his eyes. their lips connected as they moved to the rythme of ‘still loving you’ by the scorpions in the back. “you know i love you?” Eddie muttered against her lips as her lipstick smeared off, she nodded kissing him again as she wrapped her arms around his neck to keep him close “i know ed’s…i know.” she muttered back

During the late hours of the night, the occupants checked into the hospital were fast asleep. Only the doctors and nurses who worked the night shift were awake at this time. They made their rounds per usual, checking in on their select patients.

A young nurse walked down the long stretch of the hallway before stopping at one of the private rooms to her left side. She knocked on the door a couple times, waiting for permission to enter. Once she heard this, she twisted the doorknob and entered the small hospital room.

The new parents were cuddling in the small hospital bed, laying wide awake in their spot. They cradled their newborn baby who was only a few hours old at this point. The two of them were smiling down at their precious baby, admiring all her little features.

The baby was a pink newborn. Her mess of hair on her head was now dry, but you couldn’t see it under the pink cap on her head. She was swaddled tightly in a blanket the hospital provided its newborn patients.

At this moment, the little one was wide awake. Her big brown eyes blinked slowly as she surveyed some of her surroundings to the best of her ability. She began rooting which meant her little pink tongue poked out of her mouth every so often. Her instincts were strong. She wanted milk.

“I think she’s hungry,” Eddie suggested. He had taken notice of the way his daughter slightly turned her head to face her mother’s clothed breast. He went to move the blanket more away from the baby’s mouth, brushing her chin ever so gently.

“O-Oh,” Y/n said with a hint of nervousness. “Okay. I’ll just--” she went to adjust her gown.

“Y-Yeah. I’ll just uh...” Eddie carefully slipped over the side of the bed so he could stand to his feet. He shoved his hands into his pockets awkwardly. “Give you some space,” Eddie chuckled nervously.

There was a strong sense of awkwardness in the hospital room. As Eddie shuffled backwards in his place, he came up with a good excuse to leave the room.

“Do you want a coffee?” But Eddie didn’t want for her to respond. He opened the door quickly. “I’ll get you a coffee,” Eddie replied before closing the door behind him.

“’kay,” Y/n said to the empty room.

Slowly, Y/n readjusted the newborn in her grasp, shifting to pull down the corner of her hospital gown. Then she pulled her breast out with her hand. She went to move her nipple towards the baby’s mouth and she instinctively latched on.

The baby began to suckle softly. She drew out the long streams of creamy milk, swallowing on her own. Her rosy pink cheeks moved as she nursed from her mother. She seemed to be savoring every single drop of milk her mother had to offer her. She made little noises to showcase her contentment.

Meanwhile, Eddie was walking aimlessly through the hospital corridor. In all honesty, he was just trying to kill some time. He didn’t want to intrude on his girlfriend’s privacy and he felt the strong awkward tension in the room. His hands were shoved deep into his jacket pockets and he kicked the tile flooring beneath him.

When Eddie lifted his head, he spotted a lady sitting at the front desk. What caught his attention was the phone resting on the top of the desk. He quickly hurried over there, asking the lady if he could use the phone to make a phone call. She said that he could.

The first thing he did was dial in his own home phone. He looked at the clock hanging on the wall, noticing that it was around five in the morning. He felt bad because his uncle worked the night shift and had probably just gotten home an hour earlier. He wondered if his uncle was already fast asleep.

Much to Eddie’s surprise, Uncle Wayne picked up the phone and held it to his ear. He asked who was calling and his nephew quickly said his name. He added that they had gone to the hospital.

“Is everything okay? Did Y/n have the baby?” Uncle Wayne questioned on the other side of the line.

“Y-Yeah,” Eddie smiled at the thought. He felt the tears gathering in the corners of his eyes. “It’s a girl! She’s...oh...she’s so beautiful,” Eddie choked on his own tears.

“How’s Y/n?” Uncle Wayne inquired.

“She’s great! She’s feeding her right now so I stepped out for a bit,” Eddie explained. “Will you come by later to see them?” Eddie wondered.

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Uncle Wayne commented. He smiled through the phone call.

By the time Eddie came back, Y/n had just finished feeding the baby and was readjusting her hospital gown. She went to reach for a spare cloth on the side table, but Eddie quickly grabbed it for her. He even went so far as to drape it over her shoulder for her, despite the fact that she was more than capable. She thanked him nonetheless.

Slowly, Eddie crawled back into bed beside his girlfriend. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, holding her against his side. She began to burp the baby, patting her back gently enough that it didn’t hurt.

“Have we thought of any more names for her?” Eddie wondered curiously. He smiled at the little newborn.

“No,” Y/n released a long sigh of defeat. She remembered the long list of boy names they had gone through a few months prior. “It was so much easier when we thought it was going to be a boy,” Y/n confessed.

“What about...Diana?”

“Like the Bryan Adams’ song?” Y/n sounded slightly disappointed. She was about to dismiss the name because she disliked the idea of naming the baby after a famous song or singer.

“No!” Eddie tried to come up with some excuse, even though she nailed his suggestion. “Like Princess Diana. You like her, don't you?” Eddie tested that.

For a brief second, Eddie could see the wheels turning in her head as she pondered the choice of name. He looked at her quizzically, but he could tell that it wouldn't be enough to convince her.

“O-Or what about after the character in that book of yours? What is it called?” Eddie snapped his fingers as he tried to remember the name of the book. “Anne of Green Cables?” Eddie teased.

“Anne of Green Gables,” Y/n corrected him with a small smile on her face.

“Right! Wasn’t there a character named Diana in that book?” Eddie wondered. He could remember all the times she talked about that book. It was one of her all time favorites.

“Y-Yeah. Diana Barry,” Y/n nodded her head.

“She was your favorite, wasn't she?” Eddie spoke softly. He tried to capture her gaze by tipping his head down a little further. He gestured to the newborn. “Why not name her after the character?” Eddie suggested.

“I-I guess we could go with that,” Y/n finally convinced herself. She nodded her head in confirmation. She went to look back down at the baby in her arms.

While Y/n kept her attention on the baby, Eddie took a moment to admire his girlfriend. Despite having just endured the long painful hours of childbirth, Y/n was practically glowing! She just had a look about her. And she seemed so happy.

The pregnancy hadn’t been easy on her. With having gotten kicked out of her parents house to being slightly rejected by society, Y/n had her fair share of struggles. She didn’t smile most days since she was severely depressed.

For the first time in a long time, Eddie saw her smile when she looked down at their precious baby. It seemed like she had completely forgotten about all the bad things that happened and all the hard times she had. She had her baby and that was all that mattered to her now. He savored the way her lips curved into the most beautiful smile. Motherhood suited her nicely.

Eventually, Baby Diana would burp up those bubbles in her tummy. She could barely keep her eyes open after that. Her dear mother had laid her back down in her grasp. Her bright brown eyes would begin to droop in a slow manner, drunk on the sweet milk. She drifted off to sleep.

A couple hours later, the hospital allowed visitors to come into the back to see their friends or family. So Dustin, Max, Lucas, Mike, Nancy, Robin, and Steve were trying to navigate through the hospital corridors. The lady at the front desk was no help, according to Dustin. They were only slightly lost.

Back in the hospital room, Y/n was eating the breakfast the nurse had provided her with. She honestly didn't care if it didn’t taste good, because she hadn’t eaten in so long.

On the sidelines, Eddie was standing over the plastic bassinet that held his daughter. She was wide awake now and she had already been fed. Now Diana was just laying there, completely content with the world. She didn't make any fussy noises, just the occasional gurgle of spit.

There was a soft knocking on the door. They figured it was just the nurse coming to check vitals or make sure everything was alright. Much to their surprise, the door opened to reveal all of their friends. Dustin walked in first. He was carrying a whole bundle of balloons and a large brown teddy bear that looked like he won it from a fair.

“We come bearing gifts,” Dustin announced with a toothy grin on his face. Behind him, Lucas and Mike roughly slapped the balloons that got into their faces.

Without hesitation, the four kids made their way over to the container that held the baby. As if on cue, Eddie stepped away to give them space. He smiled at the way those four kids swooned at the sight of the newborn. They huddled around the plastic bassinet, peering down to look at the newborn baby with curios eyes.

Knowing that they'd eventually get their turn to look at the baby, the three teenagers went to stand beside the hospital bed to check on their friend instead.

“How are you feeling?” Nancy wondered. She placed her hand on her friend’s shoulder.

“I’ve been better,” Y/n confessed with a weak smile on her face. She shrugged her shoulders in slight defeat, not feeling the need to mention the soreness she still felt.

“Yeah, it’s not everyday you push a five pound baby out of your vagina.” Robin added in her nervous and awkward tone of voice. She laughed nervously to cover up the stunned silence that followed.

“Eddie!” Dustin called over his shoulder. “She looks just like you!”

Upon hearing this, Eddie couldn’t contain the smile from growing on his face. He straightened his back in posture, feeling the strongest sense of pride in that. It was true; the baby did look remarkably like him.

The four kids didn’t realize that they were mirroring every facial expression the baby was making. They were making silly faces at her. At one point, Dustin went to reach for the balloons above him. He tapped them a couple times as if trying to grab the baby’s attention. But instead, Diana only seemed to scrunch up her face and burst into a fit of tears.

“You made her cry!” Lucas exclaimed.

“I did not!” Dustin argued.

Carefully, Eddie made his way through the small crowd of kids. He scooped the newborn up in his arms. He bounced her a few times to hush her cries, holding her close to his chest. He kept one hand under her bottom for support and the other was lingering on her back. He cradled her so that her face was tucked into his neck.

The four kids had turned to watch him soothe the baby’s cries. Not only where they surprised that it seemed to be working but they were also surprised at how natural he looked doing it. It was like he’d done this before or he must have had some practice over the past couple hours of her being born.

“If you kids put on some hand sanitizer, you can take turns holding her.” Y/n told them.

Upon hearing this, all four kids practically ran to the side table in order to get a quick pump of hand sanitizer. They bumped shoulders, trying to push one another out of the way. This chaotic energy only resulted in Max getting a blob of sanitizer on one of her favorite shirts, which was curtesy of Dustin pumping the handle too hard.

After the boys rubbed the sanitizer between their hands, they hurried back towards the couch in the room. They held out their hands expectedly, patiently waiting for Eddie to place the baby in any one of their hands. Back by the bed, Max had grabbed a tissue and was trying to get the hand sanitizer out of her shirt. She looked back at the boys.

“You’ll get your chance to hold her,” Y/n reassured her with a small smile. Max nodded her head in acceptance.

Now Eddie leaned down to place the baby in Dustin’s arms. He made sure the baby was secure in his grasp before pulling away. He instructed him to keep his hand behind the baby’s head to support her. And since Dustin never had a younger sibling of his own, this was his first time holding a baby.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Dustin didn’t say anything about holding the baby. Usually, he would say something silly or snarky. But right now, Dustin was completely awestruck and it made him silent. He just stared down at the little newborn in his arms.

And Eddie watched him carefully. He just wanted to make sure nothing went wrong because that little baby meant the world to him now. He seemed to smile at the way his friend reacted to holding her. It looked like Dustin was a little stiff at first, but he quickly relaxed when he realized he wasn’t going to break her just by holding her.

“She’s beautiful,” Dustin finally said something. By his tone, everyone knew that he was probably crying but they chose not to call him out on it. They figured it might embarrass him.

“She really is,” Eddie nodded his head in agreement. “Just like her mother,” Eddie said while looking over his shoulder at his girlfriend.

After some time, the baby was eventually passed to Lucas and then to Mike. They also took their own time savoring the feeling of holding such a small newborn. Both Lucas and Mike had younger sisters of their own so this wasn’t totally new to them.

Then Max got to hold her. She smiled down at the precious baby in her arms. The four boys were hovering over her shoulder since they were still obsessing over the baby. She gently rocked the baby back and forth in a soothing manner. It honestly seemed to be putting the baby to sleep.

“So Harrington,” Eddie said slowly. He went to stand by him. He nudged him in the side slightly suggestively. “You gonna babysit for us?” He joked.

“Always the babysitter,” Steve said shaking his head.

“I’ll do it,” Max perked up. “I mean, I live close to you guys anyways. It wouldn’t be any trouble. And you wouldn't have to pay me! I would do it for free,” Max made her own case.

Both Eddie and Y/n agreed that she would be the first person they would call if they ever needed a babysitter. After this, Eddie went over to take the baby back into his arms. He carried the baby to his older friends.

Without warning, Eddie placed the baby into Robin’s arms. She had, at first, insisted that she wasn't good with kids, specifically newborns. She also mentioned that she was rather clumsy and she feared dropping the baby. But Eddie ignored all her comments and reassured her that he was right there if she needed help.

After some time, Robin came to realize that the baby was completely harmless and entirely innocent. She quickly grew more comfortable with having the baby in her arms. She made faces at the baby, even though she was now sleeping.

Then the baby was passed to Nancy who very gladly took the baby into her arms. She had two younger siblings so she was definitely the most experienced one in the room. She cooed at the sight of the baby. She bounced her gently.

Just seeing Nancy holding a baby made Steve’s heart soar with love. He looked at her discreetly as he stood beside her. He admired how natural she looked and imagined what she’d be like as a mother herself one day. He felt a weak smile growing at the corners of his lips.

Their friends stayed for at least another hour. For the most part, Baby Diana was sleeping soundly in her father’s arms. He sat on the couch and had two of the kids on either side of him. They really couldn’t get enough of the baby.

Once Diana woke up from her nap, she started to get fussy since it was feeing time. Both Eddie and Y/n shared a look. He awkwardly announced that they should probably get going. Naturally, the four younger kids asked why they had to leave so soon. But Steve was quick to jump in and say that they needed to get their rest. Though he figured they were just going to feed the baby and he respected their desired privacy.

Eddie went to reassure them that they'd all be able to hold her and spend more time with her once they got back home. They all really perked up at this. They left with broad smiles on their faces.

Once all of them had said their goodbyes, they closed the door behind them. Now Eddie carried the baby over to the hospital bed. He placed the squirming baby into the new mother’s arms. She was just starting to cry since she was so hungry.

Out of instinct, Eddie took his cue to leave the room. But he stopped when she said he didn’t have to leave. He just stood there in slight surprise. She proceeded to drape a cloth over her shoulder so that it fell in front of her chest. She adjusted her gown from under the cloth, preparing to breastfeed their baby.

He felt the need to turn away to give her privacy. He didn't want to make the situation awkward for her and he didn’t want to watch her like a creep. So instead, Eddie dropped his gaze to stare down at his feet. He found himself stealing a few glances at her. He felt so much admiration for her, being able to feed and provide for their baby. He smiled sheepishly at the thought.

After an hour, there was another soft knock on the door. Eddie went to open the door and saw his uncle standing on the other side. He quickly let him into the room with a broad smile on his face.

Now most people would bring balloons that said congratulation or little stuffed animals for the baby. But Uncle Wayne held a whole bushel of wild flowers instead. He brought them to the side table and laid them down there.

“These are for you, momma.” Uncle Wayne explained. He sent her the most soft and genuine smile. She thanked him for the gesture. She almost started crying because he had always been so kind to her.

Afterwards, Eddie gently took his uncle’s arm to lead him over to the baby. He shuffled to follow him, heading directly towards the plastic bassinet holding his great niece. He peered over the edge to see her sleeping form.

“Huh,” Wayne said. He honestly hadn’t expected her to look this cute in person. He was rather intrigued by the little human. “She’s a tiny little thing,” Wayne commented.

“She sure is,” Eddie nodded his head in agreement. He saw the look of curiosity in his uncle’s soft eyes. He smiled. “You wanna hold her?” Eddie wondered.

For a second, Uncle Wayne looked at his nephew with a slight hint of surprise. He even took a step backwards. He struggled to find his words, nearly shaking his head as if to say he was good. He had never held a baby before.

Despite hearing his uncle say ‘no, that’s okay’, Eddie carefully lifted the baby into his arms. He turned to face his uncle. He instructed him to hold out his arms so he could hold and support the baby. He tried to refuse, but the baby was already in his arms now.

Almost immediately, Wayne came to realize that the baby was a lot lighter than he had expected. He made a comment on how she felt lighter than a five pound bag of sugar. Then Wayne realized that the baby didn’t react any differently from when he held her verses when his nephew held her. She wasn’t upset or fussy that he was holding her. She was completely content.

“Oh,” Uncle Wayne exhaled. “She’s perfect.”

For the first time in a long time, Wayne felt the tears begin to gather in the corners of his eyes. He had never met such a calm and content newborn in his life. He had only experienced hearing young babies crying in grocery stores, and he was always annoyed by the sound of a crying baby. But he didn’t believe this baby would annoy him at all.

At this point, Wayne couldn’t hide the fact that he was crying at the mere sight of the baby. He didn’t even bother wiping them away. She was such a beautiful little baby. She was gazing up at him with such wide, curious eyes. She even grabbed his finger with her tiny hand. He didn’t know that most infants naturally take hold of people’s fingers. It honestly made him feel so special; it was almost as if she was saying she liked him!

Baby Diana’s skin was so soft from the lotion that had been lathered on her an hour earlier. She smelled so wonderful, because she had that newborn baby smell. Her smile made everyone’s heart so warm. Even her cries were so innocent, desperately wanting her mother or her mother’s milk.

She had only been alive for a couple hours and she had already met a whole crowd of people that had so much love for her. Despite anything that would come her way, whether that be the good or the bad, she would always have them. They’d always be there for her, no matter what. She’d never doubt that.

It had been raining heavily when it happened. The harsh sound of a wood door slamming shut in front of a seventeen year old girl. She had just been thrown out of her house by her parents since she had committed a unforgivable sin in their eyes. She was being shunned, punished.

So there, she knelt in a puddle of rainwater outside her parents’ house. She replayed the events of the night in her head, remembering the looks of disappointment and utter disgust on her parents faces when she confessed. She begged her father as he dragged her towards the front door before throwing her out into the rain and slamming the door in her face. They had no daughter, not anymore at least.

In slight shock and disbelief, Y/n simply sat there for a couple minutes. She cried to herself because she honestly didn’t know what she was going to do or where she was going to go tonight. After some time, she rose to her feet and began walking wherever her feet took her.

She walked against the harsh winds and the cold rain, trudging through beside everything that just happened. She hugged her arms close to her for warmth and she kept her head hung low so water didn’t get into her eyes. She didn’t carry any of her belongings because she didn’t have any with her. She only had the clothes on her back which were now soaked to the skin.

It was dark outside, probably around ten o’clock at night. At the given moment, Eddie was making himself a little late night snack. He opened the bag of popcorn and proceeded to dumb its contents into a large bowl. His uncle was situated on the couch, flipping through channels on the television. He grumbled something about nothing good being on.

All of the sudden, there was a knock on the front door of their trailer. Both of their heads turned towards the door. They hadn’t been expecting anyone, not at this hour and not in this storm. Nevertheless, Eddie went across the room and pulled the door open. There, standing in front of him, was his girlfriend.

“Y/N?” Eddie asked.

He quickly took note of her state. Her clothes were absolutely drenched, sticking to her skin. Her hair stuck to her face, but it had been brushed away a few times so she could see where she was going. The skin under her eyes was red and puffy because she had been crying for so long. And the tip of her nose was pink from crying too. She said nothing.

“What are you doing here? It’s late and it’s pouring--” Eddie wondered. He was quickly cut off when she took a step forward and wrapped her arms around him in a desperate hug.

Just then, the tears came back. She squeezed her eyes shut tight in attempts to keep them from falling, but it was no use. Her body racked with sobs. She cried ever so softly and quietly.

“Hey. Hey,” Eddie tried to reassure her. “It’s okay. I’m right here.”

Without hesitation, Eddie ushered her inside his warm and cozy trailer. He closed the door behind him. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder in hopes of bringing her some sense of comfort.

In a second, Uncle Wayne had returned from the hallway with a brand new towel in his hands. He handed it to her. His face laced with a strong look of concern for her.

In response, Y/n quietly thanked him for the towel. She wrapped the towel around her shoulders, shivering softly. This helped dry her off a bit and gave her some warmth.

“C-Could I stay here for a while? My parents--,” Y/n almost couldn’t bring herself to say. “They kicked me out.”

“Yeah. Of course. You can stay in my room,” Eddie nodded his head. He figured it would be best not to ask questions about what happened right now. She was clearly distraught and she probably just needed some time.

Now, there was only one bedroom in the trailer. Out of the kindness of Wayne’s heart, he let his nephew have the room to himself. He slept on a folding cot in the living room. The system worked. Neither of them complained about it.

Eddie was changing the sheets on his bed since he hadn’t done that it the longest time and since he had a guest staying. While Eddie gathered the gross mess of dirty sheets in his hands, Y/n had shuffled to stand by his bedside table. She timidly grabbed the small opened box of condoms laying there.

Naturally, Eddie lifted his head to look at her. He saw that she was holding his box of condoms. His facial expression dropped in sudden realization. Hesitantly, Y/n lowered the box of condoms back onto the side table. She turned her head to look at him with tears streaming in her eyes. Everything was communicated so clearly with that one look in her eyes.

“Are you--” Eddie questioned. He took a step forward. He pointed to her. “Did I--” Eddie couldn’t speak.

Without saying anything to confirm or deny the accusation, Y/n went to wrap her arms around her stomach as if she were trying to hide the fact. She could feel the tears streaming down the sides of her face. She was so overcome with emotions.

After some time, Y/n had dried off. She changed into some spare clothes that Eddie had given her to borrow. She crawled into bed with the hopes of falling asleep and waking up from this terrible nightmare. Thankfully, Eddie was there to help her fall asleep. He simply brushed her hair down with his fingers and that seemed to lull her to sleep.

Once Y/n was sleeping, Eddie quietly exited his bedroom and closed the door behind him. He shuffled back into the living room. He found his uncle rearranging the living room, settling up another bed on the ground for his nephew. Upon hearing his approach, Uncle Wayne turned around to face his nephew. He looked at him expectingly.

“I—I got her pregnant,” Eddie choked. He had a build up of tears in the corners of his eyes, threatening to fall at any given moment.

“Oh Eddie,” Uncle Wayne said softly. He looked at his nephew with such sympathy in his eyes. He wasn’t going to yell at him or scold him like his father would have.

Instead, Uncle Wayne brought his nephew over to the couch in the living room. He helped him sit down with a single hand on his back for support. He didn’t want to ask any questions. He didn’t want to overwhelm him, because he probably was feeling an overwhelming sense of various emotions. So he sat quietly and waited for his nephew to talk to him.

Out of instinct, Eddie rubbed his hand over his face. He kept his hand over his mouth, reveling in the news that was just broken to him. He swallowed the heavy lump lingering at the back of his throat. He began to panic a little.

“I-I just don't understand,” Eddie began. He raised his hand in defense. “I mean, we were so careful every time. W-We used protection,” Eddie claimed.

His uncle only nodded his head understandingly. He had always been the more quiet type, more of a listener than a talker. He turned his head and looked into the distance. His nephew breathed a long sigh.

“You’ll get through this,” Uncle Wayne encouraged. He went to look at his nephew sitting beside him. He sent him a weak smile. “Both of you will,” Uncle Wayne added.

“I’m not ready to be a father,” Eddie shook his head.

“Most people aren't,” Uncle Wayne shrugged his shoulders. “But you will be when the time comes,” Uncle Wayne concluded.

That night, Eddie couldn’t seem to fall asleep. It wasn’t because he wasn’t sleeping in his own bed. It was more because he couldn’t stop thinking. The questions of “how did this happen” or “what are we going to do” kept coming up. And he couldn’t answer them.

Now, Y/n told him that she found out just earlier that day after having stolen a handful of pregnancy tests from the nearby gas station. She brought one of the pregnancy tests to show him for even more proof. And sure enough, there were two little pink lines on it.

For some reason, Eddie kept hearing the sounds of a newborn crying. He didn’t know how to take care of a baby. He'd never even held one before! Whether he liked it or not, he was going to have a newborn baby to take care of and provide for a couple months.

In that moment, Eddie decided that he was going to do everything in his power to make sure his girlfriend was cared for during the pregnancy. He was choosing to be there for her. He was going to provide her with all of her needs, whether that be food cravings or much needed back massages.

Even after the baby was born, Eddie was determined to pull his own weight. He thought about how he could take the night shifts and feed the baby a bottle. He'd figure out how to change a diaper. He wondered if there was a parenting book in the library that he could check out. No matter what, Eddie was going to take care of her and the baby.

During the early stages of the first trimester, Y/n had the worst case of morning sickness. Almost every morning, she was woken up by the sudden urge to throw up. She’d have to race to the bathroom just to yank open the toilet seat. Her stomach would contract violently as heaps of throw up came out of her mouth.

Despite the fact that it was around five or six in the morning, Eddie would always come in to hold her hair behind her head. He’d stand over her hunched figure sitting on the ground. Her hair was collected in a tight grip at the back of her head so she never had to worry about loose strands falling into her face. Sometimes, Eddie found himself rubbing her back in a reassuring manner and whisper encouraging words to her. He was in there every morning with her.

Over the next couple weeks, the word had finally spread around town. A large majority of the towns people were disgusted by the news, secretly calling her ‘a whore’ behind her back. And saying things like ‘that’s what she gets for sleeping around’ despite the fact that she had only slept with her boyfriend. And they didn’t blame her parents for throwing her out on the streets, thinking that she deserved it and maybe she’d learn her lesson.

Then there was a small minority of people who just felt pity for her. This group main consisted of the community who lived in the trailer park. They had heard that she had been thrown out by her parents. They felt bad for her. She was just a kid anyways.

The worst part was the high school. She had stopped coming to school since her parents refused to pay the monthly school bill. Now this only sparked rumors in the hallways. The vast majority of students figured that she had gotten pregnant, though they didn’t know by whom. This became such a talked about scandal that the principal had to address it at one of the school assemblies.

Whenever Eddie and Y/n would go out, it was inevitable that they were going to receive stares from people passing. Especially from women who were always trying to see if she was starting to show yet. Eddie always handed her one of his jackets and she used this to conceal her growing stomach from the world.

One day, there was a knock on the front door. At the given moment, Eddie was working on his campaign in his bedroom and Uncle Wayne was working. So Y/n went to open the door. She figured it was just one of the neighbors coming to stop by.

But when she opened the door, she was surprised to see Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Mayfield standing in front of her. They both wore the biggest and brightest smiles on their faces. And they each carried a large box full of miscellaneous things.

Behind Mrs Mayfield was her own daughter named Max. She had just started her first year of high school and it was their first year living in the trailer park themselves. In contrast, Mrs Wheeler came from the middle class suburbs. She had her own large white cookie cutter house, lined with perfectly trimmed hedges. It felt like such an odd thing, seeing those two women together considered their very different backgrounds.

“Mrs Wheeler,” Y/n acknowledged because she knew her daughter Nancy from school. “Mrs Mayfield,” Y/n added.

For a second, Y/n really didn’t know what to do. She looked between the two women, wondering what they could possibly want from her. She shifted her weight onto one side and just stood there awkwardly. Then she cleared her throat.

“Is there something I can do for you?” Y/n wondered. She quickly wrapped her sweater around her evident baby bump because she felt so self-conscious about it.

“We have some things for you,” Mrs Mayfield said. She gestured to the large cardboard box in her hands. “And for your baby,” Mrs Mayfield included with a gentle smile.

“M-My baby?” Y/n questioned.

“Yeah. Just a couple things that we collected from when we had little ones of our own,” Mrs Wheeler replied. She glanced at the other woman standing beside her.

“Mainly just clothing and toys,” Mrs Mayfield nodded her head.

"Of course,” Y/n was brought back. She placed her hand on her forehead. “Come on it,” she said while moving out of the way and opening the door a little further.

Together, Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Mayfield placed the two large boxes on the coffee table in the center of the living room. Then the two of them proceeded to sit down on the couch. They opened the boxes and started taking some of the contents out.

So Mrs Mayfield pulled out a couple newborn onesies. She claimed that Max was born much too big for the clothes she had so they weren’t even used yet. The only unfortunate thing was that she only had one daughter so there weren't any boy themed clothes. But Y/n claimed that it was fine and she was most grateful for them anyways.

Now Mrs Wheeler had much more baby clothes on her. Since she had two daughters and one son of her own, she brought a whole variety of options since they wouldn’t know the gender until the baby was born. She was even so kind as to give her a newborn and toddler car seat, stating that Holly had just grown out of her’s.

Then came the baby toys. With the help of all three Wheeler kids, they had assembled a small pile of old toys that they didn’t necessarily play with anymore. Nancy had decided to give away some of her stuffed animals, thinking she was a little too old to have those now. Mike gave away some of his little action figures, toy trains, and automobiles. And Holly wanted to give the new baby her old rattle, some building blocks, and pop up books.

All the while, Y/n was marveling at the adorable little toys and trinkets. She let her fingers graze over a few of them, realizing how blessed she was to receive these. Then she held up a little onesie to view, which only made the smile grow on her face. She thanked them for their generosity.

On the sidelines, Max was sitting on the floor next to the coffee table. She kept stealing glances towards the older teenage girl. She saw the baby bump peeking out from behind her sweater.

“Do you think you’ll have a boy or a girl?” Max wondered curiously. She kept a blank face, but she was beaming with genuine curiosity.

“I-I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it,” Y/n confessed with a shrug of the shoulders. She folded some baby clothes in her lap, setting them off to the side. “Eddie and I-- we are both an only child,” Y/n explained.

“Have you thought of names yet?” Max mentioned. She felt the smile growing at the corners of her lips.

“No,” Y/n smiled back. “No, we haven't.”

That night, Eddie came into his bedroom carrying two bowls of ice cream. He sat down on the bed and went to lean against the headboard next to his girlfriend. He placed her the bowl of ice cream on top of her round stomach and it stayed there perfectly. He began eating his own bowl of ice cream.

“We really should come up with names, Eddie.” Y/n said. She discarded an empty notebook that she had been holding for the longest time. She had been trying to think of good names to write down.

“Here,” Eddie said as he placed his bowl on the bedside table. He proceeded to pick up the notebook and pencil. “I got a couple names in mind,” Eddie confessed.

He quickly scribbled down a short list of names on the piece of paper. Afterwards, Eddie handed her the notebook for her to read. He grabbed his bowl of ice cream so he could keep eating it. He stuffed a spoonful in his mouth.

“Really?” Y/n looked at him. “Ozzy is your first pick?” Y/n said with a slight scoff.

“It’s a good name! It’s different. It’s unique,” Eddie was honestly trying to make a case for this option. He really just liked Black Sabbath.

“I don’t think so,” Y/n chuckled softly. She looked back down at the list. “John is a good one. But did you only pick that name because of John Lennon?” Y/n wondered.

“Uh, just look at the next one,” Eddie tried to avoid answering the question. He pointed to the notebook in her hands.

“Kirk,” Y/n read. “What? Like Kirk Hammett from Metallica?”

“I was hoping to get away with these,” Eddie let out a loud sigh of defeat and had a smile growing on his face.

“I know you too well,” Y/n shrugged her shoulders. She noticed something on the list. “You don’t have any girl names listed here,” Y/n acknowledged.

“I couldn’t think of any,” Eddie confessed.

“Watch us have a girl,” Y/n snorted.

“Would that be so bad?” Eddie asked with a hint of seriousness in his tone of voice. He looked at her with such sincerity in his eyes. “Is any of this so bad? Us having a baby?” Eddie added.

“At first, I think I was scared.” Y/n confessed. She thought about her next words carefully, knowing that Eddie was depending on them. “But things have gotten better. I feel...happy and I am excited to meet our little one soon,” Y/n said with a small smile on her face.

With that, Y/n placed her hand on top of her bulging stomach. She rubbed her hand over it a couple times in a reassuring and comforting manner. All of the sudden, Eddie placed his hand over hers. His thumb brushed against the back of her hand.

A broad smile grew at the corners of his lips. He leaned forward to press a single kiss to the center of her forehead. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, holding her close to his side. He used his other hand to rub her stomach. He smiled at the thought of his baby being right there and eventually getting to meet him/her in short due time.

“Me too,” Eddie spoke softly.

Now, several months had passed along in the pregnancy. Everything seemed to be in order for the baby’s arrival. The doctors claimed that the baby was healthy, suggesting that he or she could arrive any day now. Despite everything, Eddie was more anxious and nervous for when the time would come. He spent most of his days fretting over his girlfriend, checking on her every couple of minutes to make sure she was okay.

One night, Y/n was tossing and turning in her sleep for many hours. She wasn’t able to get into a comfortable position and she was having minor contractions. She began to realize that they were growing a lot stronger and a lot closer together.

Carefully, she hoisted herself into a sitting position on the bed. She went to tap on Eddie’s arm in hopes of coaxing him awake. All of the sudden, Y/n felt another contraction coming. She hissed at the tight feeling, squeezing her eyes shut and clutching onto her stomach. She couldn’t take the pain any more.

“Eddie,” Y/n said breathlessly as the contraction began to subside. “Eddie, I need you to wake up.”

“What’s wrong?” Eddie asked sluggishly. He rolled over to face her, trying to burrow his face back into the pillow so he could get some sleep.

“I-I don’t know what’s happening,” Y/n confessed. She began to breathe heavily to herself. “I think the baby is coming,” Y/n replied.

Upon hearing this, Eddie’s eyes snapped open suddenly. He went straight into panic mode. He jumped out of their shared bed, hurrying around the room to find some spare clothes. He quickly grabbed his car keys off the side table.

In the background, Y/n had shifted to sit over the side of the bed. Her hands clutched at the bed sheets as another contraction struck her like a ton of bricks. She had never experienced pain like this before.

All of the sudden, Eddie knelt down in front of her. He was holding her favorite pair of shoes in his hands. He carefully slipped each shoe onto her foot before helping her stand to her feet. He walked her towards the front of the trailer with one hand secured behind her back. He closed the door behind him before heading straight towards his van. Then the two of them drove to the hospital.

After nearly eighteen hours of labor, the two young teenagers became parents to a beautiful baby girl. She was quite small, later weighing at only five pounds and some odd ounces. It also wasn’t surprising that she came out with a head full of hair, curtesy of her father.

The newborn baby had released a loud cry of protest. She was quickly cleaned by the doctor because she was covered in this white substance and a little blood. They wrapped her in a soft blanket before handing the baby to the new mother.

With some hesitation, Y/n took the bundled baby into her arms. She held her close to her chest, not really sure what else to do. She brought one of her hands up to hold the back of the baby’s head because she remembered that newborns can’t support their own head. She tried to soothe the baby by whispering soft hushes.

Naturally, with a mother’s touch, the baby seemed to quiet down in her arms. She quickly found that she had forgotten all the pains and aches she had to endure in order to birth her daughter. She was so caught up in the moment that nothing else seemed to matter anymore.

On the sidelines, Eddie was looking down at the little pink baby with a blank expression on his face. He honestly didn't know what to think or feel in that moment. He stood there frozen for a couple seconds until he felt a few small droplets of tears running down his face. He didn’t know how long he had been holding them in for.

Those were some of the most genuine tears he had ever cried before. He felt an overwhelming surge of utter joy and happiness. His heart began to swell in his chest and was threatening to burst at any second. His lips tugged into the biggest smile ever.

In a shy and timid manner, Eddie shuffled forward in his place until he was standing right beside the bed. He leaned down a little so he could get a closer look at the newborn.

The newborn baby’s head was burrowing into the crook of her mother’s neck. The warmth of her body must have felt so comforting to the baby. She had fallen asleep, breathing the occasional snuffles of sound.

Hesitantly, Eddie reached forward to stroke the top of the baby’s head and brushed some of her hair. Then his finger moved to touch the swell of her cheek. He watched the way the baby leaned into his touch. And he smiled down at her.

“She’s so soft,” Eddie commented. He proceeded to touch her little feet, which were poking out of the blanket now. He really couldn’t contain his smile. “So tiny,” Eddie added.

“She’s perfect,” Y/n said breathlessly since she was still trying to recover from just giving birth. She released a long sigh. She felt the sudden weight of sleep threatening to take hold of her at any moment.

“You should rest,” Eddie suggested. “I’ll take care of her.”

As if on cue, Eddie brought his hands forward to take his daughter into his grasp. He held one hand underneath her head and the other behind her back to support her. He handled her very cautiously and carefully at first because he was afraid she might break. She was just so little and light.

When Eddie lifted his head to look at his girlfriend, he found that she was already fast asleep. He quickly directed his attention back towards the sleeping infant in his arms. He bounced her gently in order to soothe her.

He slipped his finger into her grasp, watching the way her fingers curled around his single one. He didn’t realize how small she was. Most of his hand covered her backside and her head was still too small to fit in the palm of his other hand. He spent so much time admiring all her little details from the mess of hair on her head to her tiny fingernails. His favorite part was her little pink nose though.

As Eddie sat in one of the chairs in the hospital room, he cradled his newborn daughter close to his chest. He was staring down at her, simply watching how peacefully she slept. For a brief second, Eddie could have sworn that he had seen the baby smile up at him which only had him smile back. He had never seen anything more pure and precious than that. And he absolutely couldn’t wait until she did it again.

WHAT’S HER NAME GONNA BE???

One cannot find the words to describe what it feels like watching the life drain out of someone’s body. All of the sudden, their eyes will lose focus and fall completely blank. The jagged movement of their chest will stop entirely, meaning that they no longer found it hard to breathe. What’s left is a limp, dead weight body. And that's it.

It was the most heart-wrenching thing Y/n ever had to experience in her life. She just watched her best friend die in her arms. She couldn’t hold back the tears from falling down her face. She was devastated.

Right before he had passed, Eddie spoke about how he didn’t run away this time and he sounded so proud of himself. He convinced himself that this was gonna be his year. The last thing he did was send her a weak smile and tell her how much he loved her.

For a brief second, Eddie struggled to catch his breath. His eyes became unfocused as his breathing came to a final halt. His body went limp, which made all his tense muscles relax. His soul was taken to the heavens in that exact moment. He was gone.

“Oh god,” Y/n silently sobbed to herself.

She clutched his lifeless body in her arms, holding him as close as humanly possible. She rocked back and forth in attempts to soothe herself from the pain of loss. She closed her eyes to say a little silent prayer.

“Please, God. Let me take his place,” Y/n begged. But she knew it would be no good and she knew her prayer would go unanswered.

There was something bright that caught her eye in her peripheral vision. When Y/N turned her head to look towards the unknown source of light, she was to squint because she was so blinded by the light. She didn’t even notice that it had grown closer until it had completely overtaken her body. Then there was nothing.

When Y/N was finally able to open her eyes, she found that she was standing in the middle of the trailer in the upside down. She was holding onto the trash can shield and the makeshift spear that they had crafted a couple hours earlier. She was quick to realize that she faced the closed bedroom door.

The demobats were ruthlessly pounding against the solid wood door. They scratched violently in hopes of breaking through the barrier. Their screeching became more desperate and more hostile.

“Come on, Y/n!” Dustin called out. “Come through now!”

Upon hearing her name, Y/n spun around on the heels of her feet. She lifted her head so her gaze could follow the sheet rope through the portal on the trailer ceiling. Now she clearly saw that Dustin and Eddie had already gone through the portal.

The two of them were watching her through the portal in the ceiling of their world. They begged her to climb up the rope to them. They called her name multiple times as if they were desperately trying to get her attention.

In that moment, Y/n discarded he makeshift spear and trash can lid off to the side. She went to grab onto the rope with the full intention of climbing it. But the sounds of clawing, scratching, and shrieking drew her attention back towards the bedroom door.

“Y/n!” Dustin called out. “Come on. Let’s go!”

“You’re so close! You just need to climb,” Eddie yelled over him.

So Y/n gripped the rope of sheet tightly and began pulling herself up. She struggled to climb at first. When Y/n glanced towards the bedroom door through the corner of her eye, a haunting thought came into her mind. It made her fall back onto the floor and she loosened her grip on the rope.

Those demobats would eventually break through that wood door; it wouldn’t hold them off forever. If they broke through the door, what was to stop them from going through the portal into their world? They were going to have to stop them somehow. And right then, Y/n could only think of one thing that would work.

“I have to draw them away,” Y/n said more to herself than anything.

“What?! No!” Eddie shouted at her.

Upon hearing his voice, Y/n had lifted her head and stared up past them longingly. It was almost as if she had this all-knowing look in her eyes that told them exactly what she was going to do. And neither of them liked her plan.

“Those things will kill you,” Dustin tried to reason with her. “You can’t do this!”

“I have to try!” Y/n responded in a persistent tone of voice.

“Not if I have something to say about it,” Eddie said through gritted teeth.

Out of pure instinct, Eddie grabbed hold of the rope and began climbing to get back through the portal. However, Y/n was quick to pick up the makeshift spear once again. She sliced the rope with the spear so that the rope fell to the ground in both worlds.

So Eddie’s feet landed flatly on the ground of his trailer. He held the limp rope in his hands. His mouth was hanging open in a manner of utter shock and disbelief. No, this can’t be happening.

“What the hell are you doing?” Dustin yelled desperately.

“Don’t come after me,” Y/n ordered them.

“Y/n! Stop! Don’t do this!” Eddie exclaimed.

“Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!” Dustin repeated over and over again.

“Come back!” Eddie begged.

But she chose to drown out their calls and pleads. She slipped out of their line of sight, heading towards the front door of the trailer. She proceeded to kick the door open before using every ounce of energy to run as fast as she could. She grabbed hold of one of the bikes laying in the heap of dirt, clambering onto the seat and riding as far away from the trailer as possible.

The demobats began to follow her in a thick cloud of black fury. They were screeching in anger. But they were drawing away from the trailer, which was exactly what she wanted. It was all going according to plan.

All she needed to do was keep pedaling. She wouldn’t dare look over her shoulder in fear that she would be right on top of her. The thundering sound of her heart was beating against the confines of her chest, threatening to break through at any given second. She had to keep moving.

Together, Dustin and Eddie lifted the mattress on the ground. They tossed the mattress off to the sidelines. They had to figure out a way to get back through that portal, but without the rope, it wasn’t going to be easy.

Setting up a random chair under the portal, Eddie took a few steps back in order to get a running start. He counted to three in his head before sprinting towards the chair. He leaped onto the base and launched himself upwards as far and as high as he could. He caught hold of the end of the portal which allowed for his head to go through and his hair fell upside down.

With some difficulty, Eddie managed to pull himself through the portal. He landed on the heap of the mattress. He got out of the way quickly. Then Eddie encouraged Dustin to do the exact same thing he did.

Meanwhile, Y/n could feel the beads of sweat running down the sides of her face. She seemed to ignore the burning feeling in her legs from pedaling so hard. It felt like time was starting to slow down and everything moved in slow motion.

For a brief second, the upside down fell silent. She could still feel the rumble in her chest when the thunder sounded from the black and red skies. She closed her eyes to relish the small moment of tranquility. She knew this was going to be the end for her.

All of the sudden, a demobat collided into her side which threw her to the side. They began to swarm around her, circling in the most taunting manner. It was just like seeing hawks swarming before devouring their fallen prey on the ground.

Without a second to lose, Y/N had to force herself to stand to her feet. She began to run away once again, but she knew she wouldn’t get far on foot. She was going to have to hold them off for now. So she stopped running.

Slowly, Y/n turned around in her place. She faced the heavy storm of demobats. She pulled out her makeshift spear and nail pierced shield, moving into a more defensive stance. This would be her last stand.

“Hurry!” Eddie called over his shoulder.

He didn’t even look over his shoulder to check if his friend was following close behind him. He didn’t seem to care about the burning feeling in his lungs, which were desperately trying to help him breathe. He was forcing himself to run faster; he had never run so fast in his life. He only had one thing in mind: he needed to get to her.

It had taken them a couple minutes before they finally reached her, but it was much too late. What they found was such a gruesome and grotesque sight. The demobats had all fallen to the ground. Some of them were brutally stabbed, laying motionless in their own cold blood. Others looked like they were untouched.

What had happened was hard to explain. It was like a light switch. As soon as that switch was flicked down, the demobats naturally fell out of the sky. They were dead with no explanation as to how or why.

It was quite sad to think that the switch could have been flicked sooner. If it had been, Y/n might still have had a chance at survival. So there, on the dirty ground, surrounded by heaps of dead demobats, was the young teenage girl.

The two boys only stood there looking at the horrific scene in front of them. Thinking that there might still be a chance to save her, Eddie hurried to the seemingly lifeless body on the ground. He scooped her into his arms and started checking for any signs of life.

As soon as Eddie caught sight of her wounds, he let out a shocking ‘oh’ sound. He squeezed his eyes shut tight in hopes of forgetting the horror he just saw. Bringing the back of his hand to cover his mouth, Eddie felt the swell of bile coming up his throat and he had to swallow it down. It was an honestly sickening sight.

From the looks of it, the demobats had definitely attacked her. They must have keep her down for much longer than what Steve had experienced just a day or two ago. Her wounds were far worse than his had been.

The demobats had latched onto her sides, ripping large chunks of her skin out. Her once soft and smooth skin was now littered with numerous scrapes and scratches from the demobats sharp claws.

Hesitantly, Eddie went to touch her face. He tried to be as gentle as possible, hoping to coax her awake. He also took notice of the large gaping wound around her neck, which was bleeding profusely now. A part of him knew that she wasn’t going to make it even if they could carry her back to the trailer. But he simply refused to accept that reality right now.

“Hey Y/n,” Eddie whispered in a soothing tone of voice. “It’s okay. You’re safe now. I’ve got you,” Eddie tried to reassure her.

Much to his surprise, Y/n’s eyes began to flutter open at the sound of his voice. She found it quite hard to breathe. With each breath, there was a stabbing pain piercing her chest. She wheezed in hopes of taking in small doses of air.

“E-Eddie?” Her throat burned and her voice was weak. She didn’t know that the demobats had torn through some of her vocal cords, which would explain why it hurt so much to talk.

“Yeah. I’m right here, honey.” Eddie spoke softly. He tried to shuffle closer to her since her voice was so faint. He watched her face twist in pain which ultimately made his heart ache for her.

“I-It hurts,” Y/n wheezed and winced at the sharp burning feeling.

“I—I know, honey. I know it hurts,” Eddie nodded his head. “I’m gonna get you out of here though.”

“I— can’t move, Eddie. I can’t f—feel anything,” Y/n claimed. She paused for a second, realization striking her hard. “I’m not going to make it, am I?”

“D—Don’t say that,” Eddie said through gritted teeth. He brought his clenched fist to the front of his head. “You’re going to make it,” Eddie lied to himself.

On the sidelines, Dustin stood there with tears in the corners of his eyes. He lowered his head and squeezed his eyes shut. He honestly didn’t know what to do. He could feel the deep pain in his chest; it was the feeling of hopelessness. There wouldn’t be enough time for her.

For a second, Y/n began to grow more tense. Her muscles clenched as she was overcome with a fit of coughs. The taste of copper lingered on her tongue. She didn’t know that her mouth was leaking with blood and that it was now running down her chin.

Out of pure concern, Eddie called her name in a desperate tone of voice. He helplessly held her in his grasp. He watched her writhe in pain. He couldn’t bare to see her like this. He squeezed his eyes shut and attempted to block out the pained coughing sounds.

When Y/n’s coughs subsided, she was able to relax once again. Her chest was rising and falling steadily with each breath she took. But it was getting harder for her now. She could faintly see a hue of black in the corners of her vision.

She tried to hold off fading into the darkness, trying with every ounce in her body to fight off death. She only had a couple more minutes though. It felt like ages before she finally spoke again.

“It was real, wasn’t it? You felt it, right?” She wondered. She furrowed her eyebrows slightly. She looked up at him with a hint of curiosity in her eyes. “You and me,” she clarified.

“What we had? Yeah, that was real,” Eddie confirmed while nodding his head.

“It felt like such a long time ago,” Y/n sighed as she remembered the good old days with him. She felt the smile growing at the corners of her lips. “We were just a couple of kids running around, having fun together.”

Upon hearing this, Eddie let out a soft chuckle. He smiled down at her. He went to brush a small strand of hair out of her face. He gazed down at her with the strongest sense of admiration and sincerity in his soft brown eyes.

“But we really loved each other, didn’t we?” Y/n whispered to him.

“Yes. We did,” Eddie confirmed.

“Promise me—” Y/n began. She leaned forward so he could hear her message better from the proximity. “That you’ll keep on living.”

“Oh honey,” Eddie choked back a sob. He shook his head at her request. “I don’t want to live in this world without you. I just can’t do it. You mean everything to me. You are my world.”

Though she was most flattered, she tilted her head to the side and looked at him with a glimmer of disbelief. She knew that he could do it; everyone has to do it at some point in their lives. They eventually have to move on. People come and go. Nothing is permanent. Nothing is certain. Nothing is known.

“What am I going to do without you?” Eddie began to cry. His tears were streaming down his cheeks mercilessly. His shoulders bounced in time with his cries of desperation. “What am I going to do without you?” Eddie repeated for he seriously wanted an answer.

Slowly, Eddie lowered his head until he hurried his face in her chest. He clutched her shirt so tightly that her blood seeped through the cracks between his fingers. He clung to her in fear that she would slip out of his grasp.

Hearing him cry hurt more than she wounds that covered her body. It made her heart ache for him. She regrettably didn’t have an answer to his question. She couldn’t think of anything to encourage him or give him a piece of advice. Instead, she chose to simply hold him and hoped that would be enough comfort for him. She ran her fingers through his soft black curls.

“You’re going to be okay,” Y/n whispered.

Hesitantly, Eddie raised his head to look into her eyes one last time. He swallowed the heavy lump that lingered at the back of his throat. His tears blurred his vision slightly. He sniffled.

“Eddie,” Y/n choked painfully.

Instantly, Eddie went to hold her hand. This was him silently communicating that he was there for her and that he could hear her clearly. He felt her squeeze his hand. He waited patiently for her to speak up again.

“I love y—” but her voice faded into nothing.

Her eyes lost focus and went blank. Her grip was limp. Her last breath seeped out of her chapped lips. And she was gone.

Upon seeing her body fall to the clutches of death, Eddie could feel his heart dropping from his chest to the pit of his stomach. He scurried backwards as if he were desperately trying to get away from her. He was horrified.

“E—Eddie?” Dustin spoke weakly. He stumbled backwards slightly in disbelief. “Is she—” Dustin couldn’t bring himself to say it.

All of the sudden, Eddie scrambled back to her side. He didn’t want to believe it. He denied it in his mind. He took up her body in his arms once again. He desperately searched her body for any signs of life.

Come on, baby.

He pressed his two fingers to the underside of her neck, feeling for a pulse. But he didn’t feel anything. Then Eddie laid his head down so that his ear was pressed against her chest. He listened for a heartbeat, but he didn’t hear anything. He waited to watch her chest rise and fall in short breaths. But he didn’t see anything.

Come on, darling.

For a brief moment, Eddie didn’t know what to do next. He tried to think of other ways to get her to wake up again. He wanted her to look at him again, but her eyes refused to focus on him. He so desperately wished that he could switch places with her. He wished that he could have been the one to die, not her.

Let me steal this moment from you now.

From the pain in his heart, Eddie grabbed onto her shoulders harshly. He shook her in attempts to bring her back. But her body wouldn’t respond to him. He proceeded to place his hands on her chest, pumping at a steady pace. He tried giving her CPR since he knew how to preform it.

Come on, angel. Come on, come on, darling.

However, all the came from it was more blood. It came out of her mouth. It gushed from the wounds in her sides. It began to cover his hands. Nevertheless, Eddie was pressing harder and harder with each thrust of his hands. He was trying so desperately to start her heart again.

Finally, Eddie stopped himself. He raised his hands to his face and looked down in horror. It almost looked like he had just committed a murder for real this time. He came to the realization that he wouldn’t be able to do anything to help her anymore. She was gone. She was dead.

Let's exchange the experience.

In the most gentle manner, Eddie brought her back into his grasp. He held her against his chest and buried her face in his neck. He cradled the back of her head, rocking back and forth to soothe himself. With tears falling from his eyes, Eddie sobbed quietly at the painful feeling of loss. It stabbed at his heart and only left a gaping hole that would never be filled again.

Oh, the things he wish he had said to her. The things he wished he had done sooner. The thought of ‘what could have happened’ racked his brain every day after that. How he wanted so badly to have been the one to die instead of her.

There was a small gravestone for her. Eddie picked flowers for her every week and brought them to her grave. Most of the time, they were just wild flowers. But on special occasions, like her birthday or a holiday, Eddie would bring roses from the supermarket. Those were always her favorite.

He’d never get over the feeling of losing her. He’d never forgive himself for not being there to save her. There wasn’t a day that went by where he didn’t think of her at least once. He had nightmares about the way she died in his mind, hearing the horrors of her screams and cries as the demobats feasted on her flesh. It was torture to him.

He wrote letters to her to express his thoughts and feelings, even writing a few songs about how much he loved her. He found comfort by just sitting in front of her grave.

One night, Eddie was seated at the foot of her grave. He lifted his head to admire the night sky. There was one particular star that caught his eye because it was much bigger and brighter than all the other stars in the sky. It sparkled down at him.

For the first time in months, Eddie smiled to himself. He directed his line of attention back to the grave in front of him. For he knew that she was that bright, shiny star in the sky, looking down at him and always watching out for him. And whenever he felt sad or lonely, he could just look up to the starry sky and she’d be there for him.

He wasn’t alone. After that, Eddie chose to only remember the positive aspects and parts of the life he shared with his best friend. He remembered how beautiful her smile was, how happy she was on Saturday mornings, and how kind she was to everyone around her.

He remembered the soft and sweet sound of her voice; he loved the way his name rolled off her tongue. In dark times and low moments of life, Eddie would remind himself of how she called his name. It brought such comfort and relief to him. It was almost healing.

Undoubtedly, Eddie knew just how much she had loved him. It was the last thing she tried to tell him before she died. He held onto that thought and he would continue to hold onto that until the end of his time. She had loved him so dearly and he cherished that more than anything in the world.

She had loved him, but he loved her more than she could ever have imagined.
