Don't Forget My Heartbeat on the Right
I think you're right that Vertin is 16.
Vertin should be around the same age as Sonetto, Mesmer Jr and Matilda as they all shared a class together (though either they have a larger range of ages within a class due to having few students or Matilda skipped a grade, which seems more likely)
I think Door is the same age as life on earth??? Or at least land? That's what his first story implies
Sputnik is at probably at least around 3 months old? She awakened at some point between Oct 1957 and Jan 1958 but IDK how long she's been in Laplace since then
The Fool is at least 250 years old, though they may be older - having been seen in the 1650s - assuming that all characters come from the 20th century.
Likewise La Source is at least 150 years old as that is when she first came to Paris (1850s)
(until v1.4 in CN)
✏️ Some notes:
- Lilya’s age in Global is “unknown,” but in CN server is 17. I am going with 17 because it makes sense for her to have an age. Most likely a translation mistake in GLB.
- Eternity’s age is said to be “more than a century,” so more than 100 years old, I’d say?
- A Knight’s age is said to be “exhibited in Medieval Times,” iirc so around that-amount-of-years-below-ago since 1999? Very uncertain, please correct me if I’m wrong.
- Soooooo I think Vertin is around 16-18?

Part 1
Part 2
It's important to note that despite everything, Matilda and Vertin are good friends.
Matilda had the same aspirations as Vertin did as children: the freedom of self expression in spite of being raised to abandon those values; to know their world around them than to just learn from the textbooks.
However, what sets them apart is that Matilda willingly chose to join the white marble.
What sets them apart is the extent they’re willing to go to achieve that, and how they help people at their positions.
What sets them apart is how they handle their own inner struggle.
Matilda finds Vertin, who is in a miserable state, utterly unresponsive to the people around her because Sonetto is no longer around.
In just a day, the girl had already reverted back to being a mess, a sight that shocks Matilda greatly, but also pity for the girl who she respected a lot as a friend and classmate.
Sonetto had already given her the lengthy details, but seeing it for herself still leaves a pit in Matilda’s stomach. It was awful, how low Vertin had let herself be.
Yet somehow, Matilda feels determined, approaching her old friend as she tries to talk to her.
It doesn’t work of course, Vertin doesn’t even look like she seems to acknowledge the girl’s presence. This is what Sonetto was fearing, that without her, Vertin has no one she can open herself to, no one she could vent her pain to, no one she can let herself be broken fully towards.
It’s almost painful in a way, that even though Vertin is as much of a mess as she is, she still hides herself away from others, to not trouble them in having to deal with her. Even though it only makes people more worried, Vertin refuses to let anyone in, to know the full extent of her pain.
If Matilda was similar to Sonetto, she would likely try to find comfort for her in any way, to try to be an emotional pillar for Vertin. But that was nigh impossible, she didn't know Vertin as long as Sonetto did, didn’t understand her as much as Sonetto does.
And besides, she isn't Sonetto anyways.
“You’re scared, aren’t you?”
Matilda doesn’t know Vertin as well as Sonetto does, so she doesn’t know what would be the best way to help Vertin. But she is more perceptive than she lets on.
“Not of others, but yourself. You’re terrified to let people in, because you don’t want them to bother having to worry over you. To not have to deal with you. For them to not have to care about you.”
Matilda can’t be like Sonetto, a girl too kind, too caring and too sweet to ever be harsh or direct on people she cares about, especially Vertin. But she is kind in her own ways too.
“Sonetto is worried sick for you, I don’t know if you knew that or not. But if you do, then get up. Get up and let me help you do something about it.”
Vertin, although surprised, didn’t respond. But even so, the girl still stands, following Matilda lifelessly, for as miserable as she was, a part of her also understood just how much trouble she was placing on Sonetto. How much of a burden it must be to care for someone like her.
She feels sick of herself for doing that to her partner, and so she follows Matilda, to see if there’s something she could do.
But what can Matilda do? What does she even have that Sonetto doesn’t? How can she help Vertin when Sonetto, the person closest to her, couldn't even do that?
She can’t.
Of course Matilda can’t. They were only friends and not even close ones, it would be completely arrogant of her to think she could do anything for Vertin.
So instead, she will get Vertin to help herself, by using her divination skills and her own perceptive nature to guide the girl to her own answers.
Matilda drags Vertin’s inner thoughts out and lays it bare for her, forcing her to confront those memories and the regrets she holds within her mind. Some bad, some very bad, and all of it still hurts to this day as she constantly relieves them.
At first, Vertin is bombarded with toxic and painful thoughts of herself, but it’s through Matilda’s words and guidance that Vertin starts to see things a bit more clearly. By having Matilda offering her perspective, Vertin can see the events in a more objective manner.
Vertin had kept all these events warped against her. She wanted every reason to hate herself and so her memories were altered to fit into that narrative, to make it easier to put the blame on her and solely her. But Matilda will not let that happen, she will offer her own insights and keep Vertin from spiralling out of control.
Eventually, they do make progress, as Vertin starts to understand that she wasn’t responsible for everything. That there were things completely out of her control and she shouldn’t, couldn’t have known better. She was only trying her best in her own ways, even if it didn’t turn up well.
But the catalyst that got Vertin to even begin to accept this was Matilda, for through her conversation with her, did Vertin start to notice something in her that she never before. Something that gave her a sense of comfort, knowing she isn’t alone; something that they both share in common.
They are both selfless individuals.
Vertin gave herself up to help those around her, disregarding her own safety and agency if it means the people around her can make it out safe. She has no inherent sense of worth, only existing to help others as a way to bring meaning to her life.
Matilda gave her life to her studies, her academics and for the constant grind to become the very best, to stand at the top amongst the top. She does it so she can be acknowledged by the people around her, so that she can convince herself that she is meaningful, that she has meaning, that she can help.
Her constant drive to better herself is so she could feel like she is useful, to feel like she matters, to feel like she can help anyone in need.
Her sense of value comes from other people’s perception of her, and she will go to great lengths to prove that she can be useful. She exists to be helpful to those around her, for her value comes from their perception of her.
The way they go about it may be different, but Vertin and Matilda share this trait between themselves. They were mirrors of one another, reflecting both ends of the extreme. And because of that, Vertin learned to trust the girl more, to start opening herself up for she now understands that the girl truly does sympathize with her, at least somewhat.
Finally, after a long and gruelling journey of unwinding all the events in her head, Vertin comes face to face with the thing that represents all her insecurities, all her doubts, all her hatred and pain that she has kept within her for years until now.
Vertin faces herself, the one that started it all.
Gazing at the girl that represented Vertin’s biggest regrets and mistakes. The girl who had wronged so many lives because of her own naivety and unwillingness to look past herself.
She admits to herself that after everything, Vertin still cannot forgive her. She can’t forgive the girl for what she had done, for the people she had lost, for the trust she had broken and for the mistakes she had foolishly wrought over and over.
She admits that the girl was stupid, blinded by her own short-sighted and naive views on the world that caused others to suffer because of it. She admits that the things she has caused can never be erased, that the pain will never fade away no matter the decades that pass by.
And yet, Vertin admits that there is more to the girl, that in spite of all the bad she had done, some of it was good.
The girl had saved lives, gave others a reason to keep going, gave others hope and the conviction to follow their own hearts and even became the reason for others to put their faith and trust and love in, because they truly believed in the girl, placing their hopes and faiths into her goal, but above all, because they genuinely cared about her.
Vertin admits it, she admits that she does not know if she could keep walking a straight path, that she would never make a horrible mistake again like she had done before. That she wouldn’t one way or another lose the most precious things to her, that she won’t falter and break again.
But she has hope.
Because in spite of everything, there is still someone who loves her. And for that, she wants to have hope, to hold onto it as tightly as she could.
Hope that through them and through her crew, she won’t fall back into her old ways, that she won’t break again.
Hope that someday, maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not in a long long time, but someday; she can learn to like herself a little more.
With that, Vertin finally concludes her session with Matilda, thanking the girl for what she has done. But most of all, she acknowledges that the two of them are alike, going through something similar albeit still very different ends of the spectrum; but if the girl ever needs help, she is willing to be there for her.
Vertin’s selfless nature never disappears, and it likely won’t ever.
Because that is who she is at her heart, a girl who cares far too much to ever let other’s lives sifted away. But she will try to include herself this time, to find things about herself that she can like, to learn to place a bit more value on herself, even if it will never be above others. For she now understands that there are those who care far too much to let the blazing life that is Vertin's soul fade away as well.
Her friends, her crew, her family has always welcomed her, yet she has always kept herself distant from them. She did it because she didn’t want to hurt them, and didn't want them to get too involved with her where they would inevitably get hurt by her. All because she fears that she might lose them again, that because of her, she will lose those precious to her once more.
But now, she is willing to knock on the door of that familiar home, to let herself be welcomed in, an invitation that has always been open to her. To meet their happy and warm gazes with her own. To let herself be not the Timekeeper, but just Vertin, a scared yet hopeful girl.
Eventually, Vertin will gradually start being open again to her team, Slowly but surely, she’ll start taking the time to interact with them more and properly communicate with them on her own without an emotional crutch or trying too hard to keep up with a facade.
Vertin is willing to be vulnerable to those around her in spite of still harbouring doubts about herself, letting her thoughts and emotions be known to those that she cares about, and who Vertin also gradually starts to accept that they care about her too.
After reuniting with Sonetto again, being surrounded by all the people she has grown so close to in just a short few months, Vertin laughs.
A laugh filled with regret, sadness and underlying pain that she can’t ever forget; but also filled with joy and relief and happiness. That after so many years, Vertin finally feels like she belongs, to feel like she can belong in a family she can call her own again.
She regrets that it took her so many mistakes, so many bad choices and so many lives lost just for her to finally reach this point, that resentment towards herself still clings to her every step of the way.
But Vertin has found hope again.
She has hope that if she continues the path she is now, to continue walking along with her new-found family and to rely on them just as they rely on her, to find the worth in herself that she refused to admit she has for so long; that one day, she can look at herself in the mirror, and smile at the girl she had become.
And that is how Vertin’s character development might look to us. At the very least, if the game goes towards focusing on her selflessness a bit more throughout the story.
For those that read all the way to the end, we hope you enjoyed it. It’s a very self-indulgent analysis that we have been obsessed with for a week, and it took many tiring nights to get to this point. But this was our way of showing our love and appreciation for the character that is Vertin, and so no matter where the story will take her after this point, no matter how absolutely wrong we are in predicting her story(which I have zero doubts we very are wrong lmao), it would be a story that we would eagerly await all the same.
With that, I shall be signing off. I will keep rambling on, until we meet again.
Happy new year everyone!!! ⋆꙳•❅‧*₊⋆☃︎‧*❆₊⋆
Translation: where are my waters?
It’s the piece I did for half anniversary contest… Wanted to make cool art with meaning and a lot of characters but I got really sad when I looked at it through pc monitor and it looked like a grey mush. So hope you’re looking at it through mobile device :D
I wanted to show the group with ms. Bessmert and others returning after their liushu adventure and show a glimpse of the future where Yenisei had finally found her “waters” meaning she has found a place where she belongs
I absolutely adore Yenisei ♡(੭´͈ ᐜ `͈)੭
-Hmm? You want to try my hat? Sure, Ms. Vertin. Our heads are of a similar size, so I think it will look just well on you.
Its one day before the banner ends and I’ve just red his voicelines and had to rush to draw this like omggggg two very good people exchanging hats what can be better, right
Reverse 1999
Vertin: @tuesnaii
Sonetto: @komitrueself on instagram
have a healthy dose of low-effort memes i made before i sleep💔
Ever since I started playing Reverse 1999, Regulus has been portrayed as Vertin's energetic friend, pirate rocker, maybe with ADHD, and overall fun gal. I didn't pay attention to her much, but after watching her anecdote, I realized that there were many things that I glossed over about her.
During Regulus' anecdote, I saw this line. That means Regulus was old enough to remember her mother's demeanor towards her or what her mother was like.
Regulus is a street kid who was practically raised by Mr. APPle. Broadcasting music illegally in her pirate ship, she has gotten trouble in the side of the law several times.
Although she never went to school, she is very bright (knowing mechanical know-hows in Laplace and doing Math in Apeiron).
It pains me that Regulus can sometimes be reduced to a comedy gag by the fandom. She might be seriously funny and memetic but she is also profoundly devoted to Vertin and a sweetheart. She was the first one Vertin saved in the suitcase after all!
This was brought to my attention when I saw a line during her anecdote. The mayor of Gold Dust (who was part of the Order of Enlightenment) wanted to invite Regulus to a worship for the Sufferer (Arcana) and Regulus expressed contempt for that:
This line means that Regulus knows about Vertin's past! This means that Vertin must have been comfortable enough to open up to her regarding the Breakaway incident that happened during Chapter 3.
She was also first to hug Vertin when she came back and cried bitterly from being separated from her.
When Regulus joined Vertin for the first time, Vertin was worried that she might feel burdened or restricted going with her. Then Regulus says this:
She was sweet in the beginning and she had been a loyal partner to Vertin ever since. I know that for sure since she went to prison multiple times already for her. She never gave up on Vertin and never stopped trying when the Foundation kept her unconcious.
I love vertin so much cuz she has the energy of a standard middle age man babygirl
I'll do my crying in the rain.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
on the purpose of references in r1999
I was thinking about how meta the writing gets while playing Blonney’s anecdote. To an extent, it’s due to just how many references they put in it, but it’s also not the first time the narration has been directly commenting onto itself.
I find it interesting because usually, this tends to put a distance between the story and the reader, since you’re expected to no longer experience the narrative « first hand » but actually reflect on the way a story is constructed. It’s expecting a certain level of prerequisite knowledge from its readers in a sense.
It got me thinking into wether this has a purpose beyond Bluepoch enjoying the settings that much. I don’t think this is necessarily what they intended with it, but actually, the way we’re expected to interact with those stories, the distance, the callbacks, that’s kind of similar to how Vertin interacts with the world around her isn’t it?
She cannot experience the flow of time earnestly anymore, humanity has already been through all of this before. And since the Manus seems to be fucking with the timeline, those historical references have an investigative purpose for her. Things are no longer just happening, time is reflecting upon itself.
So that kind of unconsciously brings us closer to Vertin in a way.
Idk this is nothing but i just thought it was kind of neat.
If the suppression of emotions and memories can cause memory loss, then there's a slight possibility that it may be one of the reasons why Urd can barely remember. We're not sure yet what Urd has truly gone through but I don't think being Reversed and braving the storm and surviving all the same can lead to anything good and her past is still a mystery to be uncovered.
So possibly it's not just because of the side effects of surviving the storm but also suppressing memories and deep emotions of what she'd gone through is the cause of her amnesiac state. It's an interesting thought to say the least.
Also this implies that there's a slight chance of Vertin slowly losing her memories due to blocking and suppressing strong emotions. Which could not only deal some good heavy angst but also parallel Urd's own if she truly is her mother.
They most likely survived since they are arcane creatures.
I'm imagining Vertin catching these agile little things. On a separate note, Vertin lost her friends in the Storm before she met Regulus. A failed experiment. I wonder if we'll ever have this story explored further?
A Pirate's Yearn (A Regulus x Vertin Fanfic) just reached 1000 hits and 100 kudos in AO3!
Not much of a milestone, I know, but it is a rareship fic in a game's small western fandom, done by someone who's just got into writting fanfic last year as a way to improve its english.
With all things considered, I do think is worth celebrate it. And of course, thanks to all of you who have been reading my stuff and leaving positive feedback! Hope you enjoy my upcoming (and hopefully) bi-weekly fic about Mercuria that I'll start uploading in January 15th. ...
Okay, enough yapping, back to writting.
This previous post I made helps flesh out their dynamics but I want to talk about how the two could fall in love with each other. It might help put the rest of this post in perspective.
Perhaps Schneider didn't fall in love with Vertin per say, but she saw what they could be. What if she saw enough to say that one day she'd fall in love with this person if she had the chance. Vertin didn't have a long time with Schneider, but in their short time she displayed everything Schneider wished for. It's about impact rather than time, especially since they met in extraordinary circumstances.
So going off of that, if Schneider feels that one day Vertin will be someone special to her due to her character...
Why can't they start right now? Does love have to be done in a specific order for it to be real? Schneider herself is a rather unconventional person so, perhaps this line of thought isn't weird for her.
One day'll fall she'll fall in love with Vertin, so what's wrong with indulging in their relationship now? Whether it's after the first date or 10 dates, if they end up together then why not love each other from now?
That is to say, she doesn't love Vertin; she loves the Vertin she'll inevitably fall in love with the down the line.
Time is short. She has shit to do. They can figure out the middle part along the way but she's looking at the end-game.
She loves the future they could have had together.
Unfortunately she also knows they don't have time to build that future.
As for Vertin, she isn't in love with Schneider either but she feels she could be. Vertin doesn’t know this is the last time she'll see Schneider and thinks in a more conventional sense where they'll get closer day by day. However, Vertin can't have anything "normal" so she's robbed of that possibility. She tries not to think about what ifs since she can't change anything, meaning she ruminates on the past and reality of the situation.
Vertin's fixated on the loss she suffered in the past.
Schneider focused on future she knows they can't have.
But, perhaps in a convoluted way, they started falling in love the moment they actually looked at each other in the hours before the Storm. When their visions aligned in the present.
New Arcana Idea to play with. Constantine included.
Arcana returns, but she's significantly weaker than before. At first she is welcome back at Manus, however there is infighting and politics now spreading throughout the order. Without Arcana as the head, Manus fractured into different smaller factions who all have different theories on how to reach their goal.
Arcana wants to retake control of Manus but in her current state she is unable to reign them in. They decide they don't need her anymore. Some also feel like Arcana's sight of her real goal since she met the Timekeeper.
With nowhere else to go, she pops up in the Suitcase. She wants to strike an alliance to take down the current leaders of Manus and start over. Vertin has no intention of letting Arcana continue her reign of terror, but she begrudgingly sees use for Arcana.
So Arcana ends up in the Suitcase but like Isolde she is not allowed to leave freely.
The only person Constantine can't stand more than Vertin is Arcana. The two are always talking in circles around each other and playing mind games. Vertin is highly amused by this until she inevitably gets dragged into it as Constantine's proudest creation and Arcana's greatest obsession.
Honestly the mind games go nowhere. They go off on tangents often since it's more about winning than reasoning. Arcana doesn't give a damn but Constantine is simmering inside because she has no idea what the hell is going on in Arcana's head.
Interestingly, Arcana is one of the few people to make Madam Z openly hostile. Granted it's still restrained but you can tell she wants Arcana nowhere near her baby.
In terms of teamwork, Arcana follows Vertin's orders without question but then suddenly pull a monkey's paw. As in, Vertin will tell her to do something and she'll get it done in the worst possible way. When Arcana's feeling cooperative, they are a terrifying duo.
It's a cycle of people using each other to reach a common goal. I feel like we can explore darker sides of the Timekeeper this way to. She's a sweetie, but she's able to manipulate and scheme just as much as Constantine and Arcana. She can see their train of thought even though she doesn't agree.
When she takes Arcana on missions she keeps in her line of sight at all times. She's afraid of what Arcana will do the moment she takes her eyes off her. Naturally, Arcana will sometimes vanish just to stress Vertin out and do the most mundane things like buy herself a drink or watch the birds in a nearby park. She hangs around and waits to see a frustrated Timekeeper chase after her.
This whole thing was created because I had a vision:
A miserable Vertin and a curious Arcana eating McDonald's in Constantine's office. Constantine is listening to Vertin give her a personal update on how their mission went. Constantine is there listening with her head in her hands and a Happy Meal on her desk.
The McDonald's was Vertin's idea. She was hungry. As much as she dislikes Arcana, she won't let people under her go hungry either. Arcana's never had McDonald's before so this is new to her. She's examining her nuggets and a VERY tired Vertin is opening the sauce to show her how to eat them.
The Happy Meal was bought for Constantine to "cheer her up" because the mission was a disaster and Vertin had to share the news. Essentially she's just screwing with Constantine because that's the only silver lining in the whole ordeal.
can you tell who captivated me who my favourite character is
Honestly looking at some of the richer character's belongings I think about how rich Vertin must be.
It takes around 180 Clear Drops to have one pull. I heard some players having 100 pulls or the regulars having around 30-40 pulls. This means Vertin at some points can have 6 of Isolde's designer jewels or multiple copies of designer shoes.
The evaluation of their prices are based on Pandora Wilson's biases since Pavia's jewelry has gotten a negative value status (which I find improbable in real life objects).
The valuation of the objects are a little bit more unreliable because the characteristics of money is that it is:
Uniform (5 pesos is 5 pesos, 1 dollar is 1 dollar regardless of person)
Value (it is seen as a transfer of value) (This replaced barter since barter requires the "coincidence of wants" which means Person A wants what Person B has and vice versa. This doesn't always happen, thus the need of a universal transfer of value: currency)
Portability (can carried around)
Durability (not perishable)
So what currencies do we have in Reverse 1999? Well it seems that we have: Clear Drops and Sharpodonties.
Dust is not a currency since it is a transfer of energy NOT a transfer of value. So it is more like a power up snack. It seems to be a gatherable resource from arcane energy.
(Does it have anything to do with Apeiron?)
Anyways, back to the two currencies, it is clear that Clear Drops are considered more valuable than Sharpodonties. It might have something to do with the storm since it's shape seems to be going up. At the same time, it appears to be like crystal...so like gold currency perhaps?
Sharpodonties, in the other hand, are the more commonly mentioned, used, and exchanged currency.
It seems to be a universal and exclusive arcanist currency that is used by arcanists around the world.
For example, Zima (Russian) and Kanjira (Indian) both use Sharpodonties.
It seems like it wasn't always this appearance since Sharpodonties underwent currency evolution like other currencies do. In Melania's event, she was in charge of protecting the Mainedonty.
The Donty currency family have a collective characteristic to bite and to sense arcane blood. The Sharpodonty then becomes a perfect currency for exclusive use by Arcanists. It is portable, valued, durable, and assumes a uniform form. Surprisingly enough, it is also...edible.
If we look into some stories, you would see that Sharpodonties are listed amongst ledgers.
In Medpoc's 2nd story, it is basically a ledger of their expenses:
Pioneer, who is a businessman, also seems to use US Dollars and Sharpodonties at the same time for transactions.
Now the question is: What is the exchange rate between a US Dollar and a Sharpodonty?
It is not always clear because we have to account for inflation, supply and demand, and other factors. But I have a clue.
Looking back at Medicine Pocket's ledgers, they listed different items that they purchased with Sharpodonties. Let us use DOG TOYS as an example using this example from real life:
Given:
$ 3.30 per 1 teething dog toy (real life)
o 40 per 15 dog toys (Medpoc)
Question: What is the exchange rate between US Dollars and Sharpodonties?
Let's determine the price of the dog toy in the 1990s.
We can reasonably assume that the exchange rate between Arcanist currency and dollars will change depending on the state of US currency. Using equivalent exchange, I determined that the price of a teething dog toy is $1.36 dollars per dog toy in the 1990s.
2. Find the rate of Sharpodonties per dog toy.
This will help both currencies have a comparable object to compare prices to. Let us summarize Sharpodonties into an abbreviation called ACS (Arcanist Sharpodonty) using the same naming convention used in real life currencies. 1 dog toy is equivalent to 2.67 ACS or 1.36 USD.
3. Find exchange rate.
Using equivalent exchange again, we can determine that the exhange rate between ACS and USD is:
1 ACS = 0.51 USD in the 1990s(forgive my error, the exchange rate from 1 USD to ACS is 1 USD = 1.96 ACS NOT the other way around)
If we are to consider that Arcanist currency hasn't deflated in value but USD has, then the current exchange rate as of 2024 will be:
1 ACS = 1.23 USD or 1 USD = 0.81 ACS (0.80909091) which means that ACS has become a more valuable currency.
I converted the ACS to other modern day currencies of Russia and Great Britain.
That means that Zima's quill costs around 758.85 Russian Rubles today and Kanjira's headband costs around 73.17 Indian Rupees.
Digger's Bubble Glasses will then be around 65.05 British Pounds. Feel free to use this chart for converting the price of items that the characters have.
I didn't account for Clear Drops since 1) it is not an often used currency, 2) I have not seen a general (not handcrafted or unique item) item that I can compare to a real life item.
What does this mean when it comes to Vertin's income? She earns 9000 ACS everytime she goes to Mintage Aesthetics. This means she earns around 11,070 Dollars for each trip. She also has passive income. If she uses all her energy (let's say 7 times a day to account for 190 stamina) each day, she earns around $77,490 each day or around $2,324,700 a month. Of course, we are not accounting the passive income that she can earn from the Wilderness or from rewards or gifts.
In conclusion, Vertin and her gang are easily rolling in dough!
