“Body positivity isn’t for skinny people.”
Except it is.
“The Body Positivity Movement was created for heavier/plus size people, so people in societally-accepted bodies can’t participate.”
Except they can.
“Thin people can only post about body positivity if they recognize their thin privilege.”
Except they don’t have to.
Body positivity is for everyone, including people who have conventionally attractive bodies, and no one has to do anything to “earn” a place within it. No one has to recognize if they “have it easier” or if they have some sort of “privilege” or anything of the sort.
The moment you start gatekeeping or insisting certain people have to do things to be accepted into a movement about simply rejecting diet culture and accepting the way your body looks, you admit that you aren’t in it for the actual Positivity, you’re just insecure and want to feel superior to someone else.
No one has to apologize for taking up space in a movement that is all about love and acceptance and, you know, positivity.
