Young Like The Sea: Preview of Ch.2
He sends his haki out to the ocean, a hand reaching for another, but it is only the wind that answers. He circles the island, round and round. Two times, three, ten, and at some point, he realizes the moon has taken up to the sky. Luffy doesnât feel his hunger.
Staring at endless dark waters and blues for a moment held so still, Luffy lowers himself to the ground and settles into the sand, cold grain and soft land.
(âLuffy!â He almost seems to hear. âHow are you not cold when youâre wearing only that?â)
Then, with his legs drawn up against his chest as if to shelter his heart from the wind, he asks quietly to the sea, like a child forgotten in the rain,
âWhere did everyone go?â
The sea has no answer for her King.

I liked the One Piece Live Action so much, I started to reread the manga. Last time I did a proper reread of One Piece was around 2008 and it took me forever then, so I'm already sweating, thinking about how long it will take me now...
im just imagining - during the 20 year wait for Luffy, one of the strawhats get into a life-or-death scenario
and they wonder if they should just
let it happen - that this is the end of the road for them but arent mad about it because maybe luffys waiting for them. maybe after all this time, theyll see him again
and the others have to convince them to keep fighting and the only reason why they do is because of luffys words from a long long time ago

Ok what's worse: the strawhats waiting a lifetime for luffy to return to them, or luffy becoming immortal and outliving everyone he cares about?
The first scenario reminds me of that Bojack Horseman quote, "Was it worth it to be happy for a little bit even though it ended up sad? Or would it have been better if the whole thing never happened?" I think this isn't as bad as the immortality scenario because the Straw Hats have each other to lean on, and if they reach the end of their life without Luffy returning, maybe they'll be happyâthinking that Luffy's waiting on the other side for them.
I think immortality is one of the cruelest punishments you could put on someone, especially Luffy, considering his unique relationship with death. It's one of the OP endings I hope Oda doesn't use (through Law's Devil Fruit power).
Grief is something you don't get over. It'll always be there, but you grow to live with it. Knowing Luffy, he'd find new people to love and journey with, but they'd leave him all the same, and loneliness is Luffy's greatest weakness. I don't want to imagine this kind of torture on him.

Urgh, I don't even want to think about thatâit's too cruel. The Straw Hats learning that Luffy is as mortal as anyone, and that even kings and gods fall at some point in time. What can they do to prevent the inevitable?
Luffy has pushed his body through hell time and time again, not just because of his dream, but for his crew. I mean, Luffy vs Lucci was on full display for all of them to seeâthe limits Luffy surpasses in order to go home with them, breaking and bleeding and bruising. And the funny part of that is that he would do it again. In every timeline. In every reincarnation, in every life they find each other again. To Luffy, who thinks being alone is worse than being hurt, it's a small price to pay for family.
