Tbh, I think they would. Aside from similar views on friendships they have a lot of complementary values

Mami is very individualiatic and honest with herself. She expresses her feelings without overthinking and encourages others to do so too (like with Itachi). I think she would help Shima to focus on what HE wants. Also she's good at reading people and I think she would see when Shima tries to bottle up his emotions

And Shima values his friendships very much, so Mami wouldn't be afraid of being replaced or left out

I think they would feel very secure in this frienship. With Mami being friends with Shima just because she wants to (and not because of status etc.) and Shima valuing her as a friend without cutting ties as soon as he gets a gf

I have so many thoughts about each of them, but I can't put them into words. I just love them so much. I just love characters that defend importance of platonic love, especially in romance genre. I just love characters calling out bullshit of "you can't be close friends with opposite sex". I just love them so much
