I was today years old when I found out that Alexander Siddig and Nana Visitor were once married and had a kid together.
Funniest thing is that the two actors actually married in the ds9 cast never actually were canonically together because their characters were simply too butch and too twink to have chemistry
I love the whole DS9 crew so much!
I just remembered that I was awestruck with Kira when I first saw her in DS9. Her allure, her body language, her way of speaking. She is so butch at the beginning, so hard, yet so charismatic. They force her into relationships with men but the men they give her are actually kind, affectionate, soft, caring, a sharp contrast with her.
I am not used to a character like Kira, and specially not in the 90s. If I had seen this series as a child, she would have been my role model, the same way Maggie the pilot from Northern Exposure was.
She lives on her own, with her own rules, she doesn't explain her decisions, she works well, cares about people, shows emotion, has a sense of aesthetic that fits her, wears comfy clothes, doesn't put up with more shit than necessary... She is never played as a sexy character or to showcase how beautiful she is, her whole character takes over.
When Sisko comes to the station and he is told "have you ever spoken to a Bajoran woman?" and then we meet her and her -0 fucks. And you think it is her, but it turns out Bajoran women are like that generally speaking.
How much of Kira's character is hers and how much is the whole planet? If women are like that, isn't it understandable that men are like Vedek Bareil and Shakaar? Maybe that is also why she ends up getting along with Sisko so well, because he is also kind, patient and affectionate.
And then all the other characters took over, the first seasons they didn't really gave us too much Kira and Dax, I guess more than an episode with the two of them (and Keiko) would have made the tv explode, but what a great character Kira Nerys is.
space airport show :-)
I’ve drawn a few creepy twisty Odos before, but I really wanted to explore what it might’ve been like in the show aand I wanted to draw more Odo being twisty. So this little comic sprung out of that!
This was a fun exercise and I learned a lot while putting it together. Like how much I love drawing Quark.
Prophets: Sisko used baseball to explain the concept of linear time to them.
Ferengi: Quark learned about baseball to examine potential business opportunities.
Unidentified imagination aliens: One of them took the form of a baseball player based on Sisko’s interests.
Trill: Dax is an old friend of Sisko’s, they probably learned about it during life as Curzon, then definitely learned about it as Jadzia.
Cardassian: Possibly. I’m assuming that during the Dominion occupation of DS9, Gul Dukat at least took thirty seconds to learn what the baseball was for.
Vorta: If Gul Dukat bothered to learn, he probably rambled about it to Weyoun while drunk. If not, all Vorta field commanders are required to read Sisko’s psychographic profile. Baseball is in that thing somewhere.
Jem’Hadar: Guards were present during the exchange of an antique baseball card which Jake Sisko wanted to procure for his father.
Bajoran: Kira accompanied Sisko to a holosuite game, later learned to play when brought in by Sisko for his team.
Klingon: Through Worf, same circumstances as Kira.
Vulcan: Captain Solok and at least a team’s worth of his Vulcan crew learned the game in order to play against the Niners.
Changelings: Odo learned the rules in order to be the umpire, that knowledge would’ve been transferred to Laas and later the rest of the Founders when he returned to them. Every Founder now knows how to play baseball in excessive detail.
Because of Sisko, baseball knowledge extends across the galaxy and beyond the boundaries of time.
Smattering of DC doodles with a dash of Deep Space Nine
Ok, so, I had an idea.
What if somehow the main crew of ds9 got trapped somewhere and the only way to leave is to drink a certain amount of poison, almost like a test of bravery or whatnot.
Turns out, the chemicals that said poison is made up of doesn't affect ferengi... well, at least not in the death kind of way.
It's a drug. Ferengi use this as a drug. It's really potent.
Anyways Quark is there so they give it all to Quark and he gets high.
That's it. That's the whole episode - Quark get's high and saves the day.
Here's my drawing of this idea:
Oh, and per request from Seb, here's Weyoun in this situation:
Yeah, vorta are built different lmao
