So sometimes I think about AOS vs TOS, and the biggest thing is that in TOS, Mcspirk is basically cannon. You cannot tell me those boys don’t love each other, it makes me crazy.
But in AOS, it’s just Spirk. Don’t get me wrong, I was a Spirk fan waaaaaay before I noticed Mcspirk in TOS, but I try to see the tension between anyone in shows I watch, I Jim and Bones just seemed like brothers. On the surface, this is just interesting, but what about Prime!Spock? (I’m gonna call him Selek)
Because he knew Jim and Leonard since his 30s. In this scenario, he dated them, basically married them. Hell, he’s t’hy’la with one and shared his katra with the other. He knows them. It’s the three of them.
So do you think he gets whiplash sometimes?
I bet he visits Jim and Spock, sometimes, especially after they start dating. And I wonder if one time they’re talking, and Bones walks in, and he’s expecting him to join in. To meld into the pair like his Leonard did. But instead he stands apart, like the friend that he is. I bet it’s heartbreaking, another reminder of what Selek’s lost.
Not only that, but what about Bones?
There’s an animatic somewhere on YouTube of Everything Stays where it compared AOS and TOS, and it pointed out to me that in the Kelvin timeline, there’s no nurse Chapel, and it got me thinking.
Not only do we not see Nurse Chapel, but I don’t remember there being a Doctor M’Benga either. So he has none of his original work friends in the sickbay. Well, he still has Jim and Spock, to an extent.
But what about Joanna?
We hear about Jocelyn in the shuttle, how his wife took the whole damned planet in the divorce, but does that include his daughter? The crew are significantly younger in AOS, does he even have her? Just how lonely is Bones?
I think about Leonard McCoy a lot.
thank goodness for daydreaming because the fact that this DOES NOT exist is a crime.
I really wish that instead of rehashing the same characters AGAIN that Paramount would give us a TOS-verse spin-off sequel Star Trek: Nepotism where the New Triumvirate(tm) are Spirk's adopted daughter Captain Saavik & First Officer Joanna McCoy (they have a painfully homoerotic tension at all times) feat. CMO David Marcus (reconned back to life).
Demora Sulu is helmswoman and her father is very proud. Pavel's son, Anton Chekov the career politician, who gets like one (1) canon mention, is a recurring character who keeps on getting stuck on the boat during the shenanigans for ever more contrived reasons.
Uhura's protégé is on comms & he fills McCoy's former roll as The Voice of Reason and Distress. He can always be seen shaking his head in the background of every shot on the bridge desperately muttering "Inshallah we will survive this."
The chief engineer is a flaming Irish redhead, Siobhan, who is of no relation to Scotty despite their identical auras and is the only non-nepobaby among the ranking officers but everyone thinks she's his niece no matter how many times she insists she has no idea who tf they're talking about and that Ireland and Scotland are two different places.
The boat isn't even the flagship, it's like the USS Cerritos doing minor missions at best that they still manage to nearly botch 50% of the time. The Original Cast are phoned in for air support on occasion for nostalgia bait like:
Saavik, clearly distressed over something stupid: such challenges we face in the darkness...what would my fathers say? Anton, the reasonable one: Dude just call them, I saw them in San Fran like. Last week. They're probably doing luxury gay space pilates right now. Saavik, solemnly: ...sometimes I can still hear their voices....
The Doctors McCoy are hashing it out in episode three of Star Trek: Eridani, babey!
And ensign Terrance Riley is NOT having a good time.
Read all about it in my newest little fic here:

Save Terrance, guys.
Eridani character dynamics map!!
(Just pretend the arrows all align 😭)
Also side note Marithyk isn’t introduced until season 3
Captain Saavik: Saavik is the first Vulcan woman introduced in Star Trek who's name did not follow the " T' " convention (The T' prefix being the contraction of the word T'sai, meaning "lady" in Vulkhansu).
That is due to the fact that her name is in fact a Romulan name, meaning "Little Cat" in Rhiannsu. The name Saavik does also exist in Vulcan, but is a traditionally male name coming from the words sa’ahkh-vik, meaning "From the well-war" and referring to the ancient conflicts around wells and water sources in the Forge.
Saavik is said to be of Spock's clan as of the time of ST: Eridani, and if we follow the clan name given to him in the novel Ishmael, her full name would be S'chn T'gai Saavik, with S'chn coming from the words s’khart-lan, meaning "from the captain" in Vulkhansu, and T'Gai, coming from the words t’sai gadzhai, meaning "lady of the feast". That usage has however yet to be seen in the Alpha Canon of Star Trek.
David James Marcus: David is a name of hebrew origin, meaning "To love" or "Beloved". It is worth of note that another Star Trek character shares this name, David McCoy, Leonard H. McCoy's father, and subsequently, Joanna McCoy's grandfather.
David Marcus' middle name, James, was first confirmed in the book Star Trek II: Biographies. That implies that despite Carol Marcus' wish to raise her son on her own, she still gave him his father's name as a middle name. The name James is of Hebrew and Latin origins, and has the meaning "supplanter", "seized-by-the-heel" and "may he protect".
Marcus is a latin name, meaning "Dedicated to Mars", the god of war, or "Warlike". It was greatly used in Roman history and survived beyond the Roman Empire.
Joanna Eleonora McCoy: The name Joanna is derived from Greek, Hebrew and Latin, and means "God is gracious". In-Universe, it was a Hall family name, and was ultimately chosen by Jocelyn.
Eleonora on the other hand, while continuing the tradition of weird McCoy's middle name, was chosen by Leonard, as his own grandmother was name Eleanor. Eleonora is a derived name coming from the Old Provençal French Aliénor, having among it's meaning "light", "brilliant" and "Merciful", and the name Aliénor is also descended from the Greek name Helen.
McCoy is a last name of Scottish and Irish origin, and is the anglicised version of "son of Aodh", a deity connected with fire.

Dr. Joanna E. McCoy, read more about her here:
(And yes, her middle name is just as horrendous as her dad’s)
Daughter of Dr. Leonard Horatio McCoy and Jocelyn McCoy, née Hall, was born on January 7, 2257. In her early life, she lived on the planet Centaurus, an Earth colony orbiting Alpha Centauri. She and her family were there in 2259 when the planet experienced a crop failure and the entire population was threatened by starvation; fortunately, philanthropist Carter Winston's intervention prevented the worst. While she was a toddler at the time, both of her parents repeated that story to her very often, and this selflessness inspired Joanna in her career. When she was four, her parent’s relationship, which was already fraught, broke apart in a messy divorce, partly due to her father’s job taking him off planet often, and her mother’s growing discontent with their relationship and her longing for a former sweetheart of hers. While they tried to shield her from it as best as they could by sending her often to stay over at her aunt and uncle Donna and Fred Withers, she still witnessed many arguments and was disheartened by the repetitive fights and the pressure to have to “pick a side”, even if her parents never asked her such a thing.
Deciding on a compromise, Joanna would stay for a few weeks with her mother on Centaurus, then a few weeks with her father on Earth, as he decided to return to live in Georgia to practice medicine. During these shuttle flights, Joanna fell in love with the vastness of space, seeing it as more of a bridge between her family than a dark, unknown dangerous thing as her father did. Additionally, these constant transitions made it hard for her to ever feel rooted and at home somewhere, except in space, which influenced her choice to pursue a Starfleet career.
Eventually, her father got a starfleet commission, and as such the visitation time was more stretched out, but she never lost contact with him. When he joined the crew of the Enterprise as CMO, Joanna often exchanged messages and video calls with her father. During that time, she continued her schooling on Centaurus and did her pre-med there, until 2278, when she decided to return to Earth for medical school at the University of Mississippi, of which Leonard McCoy was an alumni.
Being a young woman with her first real taste of freedom, she had a few situationships, namely with a woman named Marianne, with whom she believed she had a serious relationship, but it wasn't reciprocated.
In 2282, while already having gone through medical school, she decided to join Starfleet medical to take additional xenomedicine and xenobiology classes, as well as earning her qualification for space service and a Starfleet commission. It was where she first met Saavik, then a first year cadet who got herself injured in a less-than-fair boxing match with a jealous player of a rival baseball team while Joanna was volunteering as a medic on duty at the Academy Gym. During that period, she also dated Malcom Erikson, then an Academy upperclassman who had to retake a few fitness tests and classes to be allowed his full commission as an officer. Joanna’s time at the academy in San Francisco brought her closer with her father, partly because it allowed her to spend time with him regularly for the first time since he began serving when she was 12.
She then served on Luna base and on Mars as a doctor, then on Deep Space 2 from 2284 to 2290, before requesting to start working on ships, namely the U.S.S Carpenter until 2296, when newly appointed Captain Saavik made a request to have her as her CMO on the U.S.S Eridani.
Joanna’s father was nervous about her joining the fleet and very scared of her first long space deployment with the Eridani, and has always been wary of her joining Starfleet, considering his own dangerous experiences in space.
A shrewd doctor and surgeon, she inherited the fierce protectiveness of her father, and is known to have a temper when under pressure. She also is a very trusting person, being far less skeptical than her father, with a very loving and generous personality, and that has caused her to be burned one time too many in her romantic relationships. Despite that, her kindness remained, and her bedside manner was appreciated by many crewmembers, until she began berating them for their carelessness in the field.
Hey guys so this is a project my friend @purple-iris has been working on for a bit (with some minor contributions from myself), it’s basically a “lost media” tv show of Captain Saavik and her crew serving aboard the U.S.S Eridani getting into all kinds of adventures! There’s been 4 seasons worth of episodes plots outlined for trekkies to use as prompts for Trek fanfiction or artwork or, well, anything really! There’s a lot more to come, including posts about the plot of the show, descriptions of the characters, some artwork (expect some fanart from me pretty soon), so stay tuned if you’re interested in learning more!

Joanna just wanted to come to Take Your Kid To Space Day. Maybe see some lab equipment. Sit in the Chair. Meet a Vulcan. Instead, she is related to Bones, who is An Embarrassment.
