"it would be my proudest achievement to date actually." salem laughed before taking another sip of her coffee. she dramatically dropped her jaw as mallory spilled all the tea to her. clearly she had missed out on a lot. she loved how casual mallory was about everything. "you went on a public outing with a man? hell has to be frozen over right now." shaking her head in disbelief as she leaned back in her chair. "wait the guy was enzo? i'm sure that was interesting...but lets go back to the part where you said you actually kissed someone?" at this point her head was spinning at all the info being thrown at her. "anyone important? or at least worth writing about?" she asked curiously, mallory's love life was typically a mystery. salem playfully rolled her eyes at the others comment about being down bad, which she was. it may have been a little embarrassing but at least she could get some muse out of it right? "it's more wholesome if anything. maybe i'll start to like making music again if i'm not writing about men treating me like shit all the time anyways." she chuckled. "we should collab and make something fun. i honestly can't remember the last time we sang together which is kinda sad."
˚₊·—̳͟͞͞♡. ❝ AN INSTANT HEADLINER. You'd be forever known as the only woman who got the great Mallory Jade down on her knees. You'd wear that like a badge of honor wouldn't you. ❞ She mused, a teasing smile appearing on her lips. ❝ Yeah well…there's this bowling thing Drew set up. It was a double date thing and since I don't have a partner I invited a friend. A male one. Could you believe it? He then turns out to be Luna's ex-something. Had to pry that information out from him. But God, I cannot wait for mess. Oh and someone kissed me at the festival. ❞ Mal said it all so casually as she waved a dismissive hand. ❝ Honey? ❞ Her brow quirked upon hearing the title. ❝ Interesting title. 'Taste sweet like honey', is that it? ❞ She smirked, the innuendo not lost in her words. ❝ And writing a song about this girl right away? Baby, you are down bad. ❞ Mallory felt genuinely happy for Salem, noticing a glow about her and something different in her smile. If anyone deserved happiness, it was Salem. ❝ Ooohhh, say less babe! We could totally work something out and you know it's been a while since we sang together. ❞
"the mallory jade getting on her knees and begging for forgiveness would be a wild sight. imagine the commotion it would cause online." salem teased before taking a sip of her coffee. "staying out of trouble? for some reason i don't believe you. there's got to be more." she found it hard to believe mallory hadn't been up to anything interesting since they last saw one another. the pair was wild but the other was typically always up to something. "the song?" salem said enthusiastically. "it's called honey and it's pretty much done. i think i'm gonna leave it real stripped down and acoustic and release it like that. i wrote it about that girl i was telling you about." it was refreshing for salem to talk about working on new music again without any pressure surrounding it. "i was struggling for the longest time but now i have all these feelings i need to work through you know? i'm just trying to sort through everything i'm feeling in a healthy way. speaking of which we need a collab."
"I know but I feel like it." Mallory pouted, returning the reassuring gesture by briefly squeezing Salem's hand. "Seriously, I feel like I need to get on my knees and beg for your forgiveness. And you know I don't just do that for anyone." She listened as Salem shared about how she spent her time. Mallory admired her friend's resilience and humor in the face of it all. "I'm fine. Been staying out of trouble which is surprising given my history." Mallory teased, trying to lighten up the mood. She wasn't going to unpack her feelings not without knowing her oldest friend was clearly going through something bigger than she was. "But enough about me, tell me more about this music you've been writing. I'd love to hear all about it. I feel like it's been too long since you've released a song."
salem shook her head in disagreement at mallory's statement. "you're the furthest from either of those things." she said with a smile as the other sat from across her. she was typically pretty understanding when it came to the people in her life being busy and knew if she really needed to speak to someone mallory would be there in a heartbeat. truthfully salem had just been closed off from everyone around her recently. "please don't apologize, seriously." placing her hand over mallory's for a second to reassure her everything was okay. "honestly? i've been in my own little bubble with stevie just writing music and reflecting the disaster that was my relationship." salem said with a chuckle at the last part. "but i really am okay. how are you doing? please catch me up on everything."
"I'm a shit person and an even shittier friend," Mallory said as she approached Salem. There were only a handful of people in Valparaíso she truly cared about, and Salem was definitely one of them, along with Esme, Al, Drew, and occasionally Enzo. Mallory felt a pang of guilt as she looked at Salem, realizing how much she had missed her friend's company. It weighed heavily on her conscience that she hadn't been there when Salem needed her, especially considering their long history together. "I'm sorry, Salem, baby," The blonde pouted as she pulled out the seat across from her and sat down. "I should have reached out sooner. I've been caught up in my own world and didn't even bother checking up on you." She paused, her expression softening with sincerity. "But I'm here now, how can I make it up to you?"
"we've been separated for so long i forgot about how bad of an influence you could be on me, mal." salem smirked while grabbing her bag and rummaging through it before retrieving a flask. as teens the two were a public relations nightmare together but salem always felt like mallory accepted her for exactly who she was. despite salem being so reckless at times when they were younger their friendship ended up surviving the test of time. "i filled this up before i left in case there was only wine at this thing. i hope you still love tequila."
taking a sip from the flask salem passed it over to mallory soon after. "you have a point, i guess this isn't the setting for everyone to be in their feelings but i'll definitely take the private show." salem teased. at the mention of leon's name she smiled for a moment and shrugged slightly. "we've never been described as disgustingly cute, more like a tad dysfunctional but i'll take it." the two had been a lot better lately and salem was trying her best to make sure things stayed that way. "honestly? i really didn't think i could either. i even ended things twice but i guess when you know you know. he's also been super patient through my bullshit." her interest suddenly peaked on mallory's romantic life. "speaking of significant others who's your current victim?"
"Don't tell me you're thinking of tapping out this early. The Salem I know would keep going until we're shitfaced." Mallory answers with a pout. She needed the liquid courage seeing as it was her first performance in months. Truth is, Mal already had a bit to drink before she came to the festival. But a little more alcohol never hurt, right? Reconnecting with Salem after years apart brings a sense of nostalgia and comfort to Mallory. It takes her back to the good memories she had back in then. "Salem, baby," she says, taking a second to down her drink before continuing. "Do you know how difficult it is to choose which songs to perform? I wanted to sing 'Tummy Hurts' and 'Snow Angel' back to back, but then I thought, 'this is too sad for the festival'. I want people to shake their asses and have a good time, y'know?" "But I can give you a private show…but I don't think Leon would like that," Mal adds with a chuckle. "Speaking of, you two are disgustingly cute, you know that? I swear, I could never do that."

"you know, in retrospect this probably wasn't the best idea." salem let out a small giggle before finishing off her fourth cocktail from one of the food trucks. when mallory suggested a pre-show pregame salem agreed without hesitation. now the two were drunk, or at least salem was, an hour before mallory's set. "we can either keep going or we can stop and try to sober up before you go on. either way im happy, i just need to be a little coherent for leon's set at least." she teased before pulling her phone out to check a text. "by the way, i am kinda pissed you aren't performing tummy hurts."
