Life’s been a little rough lately and I wanted a comfort read, but also to crochet so I thought, I’ll get the audio book. The book in question being Red, white and royal blue. Listened to the preview and my god that is the worst choice of narrator I’ve heard in a while.
The dude sounded like he was bored out of his mind and way too old. I was expecting someone to sound like they were Alex’s age, but no, some middle aged sounding dude is what we got?
I was so disappointed, like I couldn’t even sit through the dull preview because the voice annoyed me so much.
So I’ve been listening to Fourth Wing and will do Iron Flame too in preparation for the Onyx Storm release next week and I chose the graphic audio version since it sounded like a cool concept and I also didn’t vibe with the narrator of the normal audiobook from the sample.
Overall I’m really enjoying it, but there are some things that definitely takes me right out of the story every now and then
- Xaden’s voice actor is not great. He has moments where lines are delivered very well, but mostly he sounds kinda obnoxious and flat. Like he said “I’m on my way” or something to that effect in which the narrator says he had an edge of panic in his voice right after and he definitely did not. Like he had no emotional inflection in his voice at all and this tends to happen often.
Xaden is supposed to be cocky and arrogant, yes, but he’s also charismatic and confident and the voice actor doesn’t really pull that off. Like I said he just aounds obnoxious a lot of the time, like one of those trustfund baby stereotypes… makes me cringe a lot. He does have some moments here and there that he really delivers a line well though, so it’s not all bad
- The excessive moaning when they’re just kissing. And Violet low key sounding like she’s being tortured when they’re doing the deed.
I was so taken aback when I got to their first kiss because the moaning was just too much. The second the kiss started they sounded like they were about to finish if you know what I mean… it just was so weird to me.
And their first time, as mentioned Violet mostly just sounded like she was in pain. She did have some parts that sounded like she was enjoying herself, but mostly it sounded like a torture scene and that made things very weird for me
- Lastly, Tairn. I’m disappointed in his voice. I wish it was grittier, like a bit more like the voice actor for Professor Kaori (don’t remember if that’s the correct spelling), but at least he delivers his lines pretty well. Like my only issue is the sound of the voice, not the voice acting itself.
All this being said, I still am enjoying it a lot (I’m almost at the end now) and I will be doing the graphic audio version of Iron Flame too.
Have you listened to the graphic audio version? What did you think about it?
I'm somehow managing a secret third thing, where my brain just cuts out the second a name is mentioned. So I dont know how the name is spelled NOR can I pronounce it even CLOSE to correctly
Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:
Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.
The actual difference is
when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names
when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
hope this helps!
Lights Out - The dark romance book. (No spoilers)
My thoughts.
This is the dark romance book I have experienced. I heard the audiobook version and dayyum, it's hot 🔥 and extreme for a first timer. I could only listen to it when I am alone, so that is only during my commute to the office and back home. It's an hour drive each way so that's plenty of time to listen to something.
From listening to music to dark romance stories, it made me so addicted first day itself. Okay coming to review of the Lights Out. It is a simple story line with detailed sex scenes. That's the beauty of dark romance stories. I loved it a lot. My di*k was hard all the time while I was driving. It was pushing against my jeans so hard that I thought it would rip the zips apart. That proved I enjoyed the story a lot. I didn't miss the chance to even stroke myself during heavy traffic time. Hope nobody saw, I was too feral that moment. 🥵🥵
There is a beautiful suspense in the first half of the story so I can't go in detail without spoiling it. The sexual encounters will keep you hooked for sure. The female character Ally's thoughts are pretty detailed which makes it so hot because we rarely get to know what is going on in the girl's mind during sex scenes.
Highly recommended to read or listen to it.
If you need the audioboom version, let me know I can share it with you.
Credits go to my best friend who recommended it ❤️. This book was a turning point in our friendship too. That's a story on its own!

What does this mean? It means, if you buy an ebook from Amazon and you want to use a different ereader, you will not be able to download the file onto your computer, remove its DRM using Calibre, and transfer the book to any device of your choice. After February 26, you’ll be locked to Amazon’s ecosystem indefinitely. Books will only be transferable between Amazon devices and apps. You do not own the ebooks you buy. Amazon can (and has) remove ebooks from your library.
Download them now and use the Calibre to remove the DRM. I highly suggest buying ebooks from other places from now on. Links to resources below.

If you’re like me, you have a kindle and you’re not financially in the position to buy a new $130 ereader from a different brand. So what are you to do? The best thing you can do is use Libby/Overdrive. It’s very simple. The Libby app has an option to link your Amazon account to the app and so when you borrow a book from your library, it’ll automatically go to your kindle.
You can also sideload books onto your kindle if the file is compatible and DRM free. Here’s an article listing DRM free book sources.
Now this is where things get tricky. Most indie authors make the bulk of their sales on Amazon. It’s awful, but that’s the nature of the beast. Use your own discretion when buying indie books from Amazon. Check and see if that author sells their books on other platforms or buy their book physically (if the option is available) so that you actually own the book you buy.
My mom is a librarian so i use the study stuff from the bpl and it’s great. It’s my savior fr. And whenever we go on road trips and such we get audiobooks. I love libraries
“Public libraries are such important, lovely places!” Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldn’t just exist for you as a nice idea. That’s why more libraries shut every year
