And Other Designer Breeds - Blog Posts

Hi. mixing two breeds together does not cancel out the individual breed's health and behavior risks

You now just have a dog at risk for both breeds' issues

The best way to avoid any health predispositions that you don't want is to look up the parent's tests in the OFA database (here/ofa.org)

You will need the dog's registered title from the breeder or the kennel name to search all their dogs. Look up the breeds required tests and if the parent's aren't sufficient in at least all of those then you probably want to look at a different breeder (unless they were tested and registered through a different organization, then look there for the necessary tests, but OFA will be the most common and accessible)

(DNA testing doesn't count when determining full health. While it can be helpful, it will not rule out any joint, heart, eye, and oral issues.)

And to get your desired temperament you need to look at what the lineage is skilled at and make sure that the breeder is doing temperament tests before placement

If a breeder is telling you that a mixed breed is healthier they are either lying to you to make money or they just straight up don't know how genetics work (in which case they really shouldn't be breeding)
