a few weeks ago i was commissioned by the wonderful michael schimmele (who is currently playing Babkak in Aladdin) to do an illustration for him!

super cool and surreal to have the actors playing my favorite characters be fans of my art.

Over the past week I've been really feeling an Aladdin musical resurgence. I took a break for a while since I wasn't feeling inspired but I can feel the inspiration coming back to me finally! Like I been thinking about it more, drawing more, BOK is back on my brain (they never left but it's more front and center now) I think I may be back??

Happy Pride!! Yeah, I'm a handful of days late BUT I wanted to take my time with this one and I'm SUPER happy with it :))

I did a pride doodle of BOAK last year so I wanted to do one for this year too. Added the flags I headcanon these dudes as too cuz why not. (and if you have different ones, they are so valid and i love you)

i love Babkak and Omar's relationship so much. we don't get a ton of vocal interactions between them on stage, but physical interactions? they are always hanging out and they're very affectionate with each other.

latest art drop for my friends at new amsterdam theatre. some wall hangings of Babkak, Omar, Kassim and Iago! i added beading on them as well that reflects their costumes and to add to that agrabah vibe.

i brought these a few weeks ago when i went for my birthday, so they have probably been hanging in the new am since which is very cool!

tablet update!! i bought a new one and it rocks. haven't used it too much but really enjoying it so far! it's bigger so i have to get adjusted to the size difference (I've used a small tablet for like 10 years so i have to start drawing bigger if that makes sense)

First, I'm sorry to hear about your tablet. I can only hope it goes well with finding a new one later down the line.

Second, for a potential Aladdin broadway idea, how about drawing Aladdin and his friends as children? Or maybe Aladdin as a boy and with your interpretation of his mom? What do you think?

Thank you! i've been doing some research for which one to get as a replacement. my old one i had probably close to 10 years now and was one of the more basic ones (it's a wacom bamboo) so I'm going to be getting a more professional grade one! end of an era i suppose.

i love the idea of BOAK as kids (may do that another time), but I chose to depict little Al and his mom. I imagine she was strikingly beautiful, and had curly hair like Aladdin does. I referenced some of the marketplace outfits worn by the ladies in the show for her dress. with her being a mom, i made her outfit a little more modest, so her stomach would be fully covered.

(i rarely draw ladies so this was fun!)

My tablet, after almost a decade of serving me well, seems to be on the way out :( so probably no digital work for a bit sadly

BUT I want to get back into doing more Aladdin stuff so send me questions/comments/doodle suggestions (i'll just do simple stuff in my sketchbook) about Aladdin, especially regarding BOK!!

really just want to get my mind thinking about the show again to maybe spark some ideas :))

Howdy. For Pride suggestions, would you consider drawing the four street rats but with their outfits having Pride colors based on your LGBTQ+ headcanons for them?

Drawing these dudes is always so fun. I gave them little pins too since queer people love pins (I myself have so so many). Hopefully the resolution doesn’t make them hard to see. My headcanons are as follows:

Babkak: Aromantic Asexual. Doesn’t really do the whole relationship thing. The man said it himself, he’s only ever been in love twice and both of those times were with a flan. Asexual icon.

Omar: Gay. I don’t have much else to say about Omar, he’s just gay. Pretty simple.

Aladdin: Bisexual with mostly a preference for women. It’s probably like 80/20 for him.

Kassim: Bisexual with no real gender preference. He just always gave me very powerful bi energy and I love that for him. He’s not bi-curious, he’s bi FURIOUS.

Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember: no matter what anybody says, if you are LGBTQ+ you are a blessing to this fucking earth we live on. Don't let anyone tell you that you're "sinful" or "immoral" just for being who you are. Gay, Trans, Bi, Nonbinary, Asexual, no matter your identity, you are wonderful and I'm happy you're here.

Dumb twitter screenshot I saw and for some reason it made me think of Kassim. Did some quick linework with my half-dried-out copic marker which was fun.

it's very freeing to make messy art like this. all artists need to make imperfect art its good for the mind
