They sat on that rooftop again. The highest in the area, but still way below the clouds. Neither the overworked salesmen doing overtime in their glass offices nor the potential hero flying to the next emergency site were able to spot them here. Traffic noise was floating up from the streets beneath, but it was a comparatively quiet spot. Perfect for talks of treachery and corruption.
It was also much easier to reach than old warehouses cramped between buildings and infrastructure, at least if you came from above. How Dabi made it up all those stories without raising suspicion was a mystery to Keigo, one of many.
Regardless of what the HPSC’s tasks asked of him, his personal mission was to uncover each and every mystery surrounding Dabi. When his goal had shifted in this direction he didn’t know, but something about the man intrigued him. The more time spent with him and the more information he slowly gathered, the more he became invested in solving this puzzle.
And as much as he tried to convince himself otherwise, for his own conscience, he knew this was not about his identity or his connection to the League of Villains or anything else that might be relevant for the greater good. No, this was purely self-indulgent. He’d give more for Dabi’s morning routine than his real name at this point.
Looking at him now, while they argued about adjusting the phrasing of a report, he wondered if he would ever be sick of learning more about him.
The topics they wanted to discuss that night ran out, so it was time for Keigo to bring his small talk training to use and make Dabi stay regardless. The longer their conversation lasted, the later he had to return to his empty apartment. Every minute spent with Dabi was valuable.
“It seems you’re not very fond of the way I handle things with the Commission,” he said.
Dabi pulled the USB drive with the fake paperwork out of his laptop. “You’re too vague. Even an idiot like Twice could figure out that those reports are bullshit. If you want to meet the boss, you need to get your shit together and stop jeopardising your own spy work.”
He tossed Keigo the drive, eyes not leaving the screen. There was precision in a lot of his movements that indicated professional heroics training. That acute awareness of his surroundings was familiar to Keigo. It was these tiny details he tried to pick up on, since Dabi did his best to stay as mysterious as possible. They’d shared a meal countless times and Keigo always had to rely on body language to see if he liked the food or not, because he refused to share facts about himself. It would annoy him if he weren’t so fascinated.
Dabi tried to pack up his stuff, but Keigo managed to engage him with irrelevant hero gossip. This was yet another thing he’d noticed: Dabi was unusually informed about the inner workings of the industry. He supposed this was all relevant information he should report back to the Commission, but something told him to keep it to himself. After all, they were sitting here, just the two of them, chatting without any obvious ulterior motives. It had taken a lot of time and building trust to get to this point, and Keigo wouldn’t waste it by ratting Dabi out.
He proved this decision to himself by making an off-hand comment about something Best Jeanist had worn at an event once. It was a pretty stupid joke, but suddenly Dabi was laughing, clear and full of joy. For such a deep and raspy voice, his laughter was surprisingly melodic. Keigo couldn’t do anything but stare at him, the city lights illuminating his beautiful side profile.
After a few seconds, Dabi seemed to notice him watching and turned around. Those intoxicating blue eyes were scanning Keigo’s face and Dabi’s expression became serious. Keigo didn’t dare to breathe, unsure what to make of this mood shift and the deliciously anxious feeling in his chest. Then Dabi’s eyes flickered to his lips. Keigo felt heat rush to his cheeks and his heart rate was increasing with every second they spent staring at each other.
Then, unsure, they both inched their faces closer together and before Keigo could process it their lips were touching.
It didn’t last long though, because Dabi pulled away before he even had a chance to press into it. He tried to regain his composure while Dabi stared at him, wide-eyed. His chest was moving at a rapid pace, the rest of him remaining rigid. For as long as Keigo had been studying him, he’d never seen him like this. Almost like he was…scared.
Now worried himself, he tried extending a hand in a weird way of offering comfort, but Dabi snapped out of it and slapped him away. “What the fuck,” he whispered and Keigo was unsure if he was even talking to him. This “kiss” must’ve upset him for some reason.
Keigo was unsure what to make of it too. It certainly hadn’t been what he imagined under getting to know Dabi, but it explained his fascination. Has he had a crush this entire time?
Before he had a chance to dwell on this revelation, Dabi suddenly sat down right in front of him, hand on Keigo’s thigh. His mouth stood open in surprise and Dabi closed it, putting his other hand on his jaw. Blue eyes were piercing into his.
“Listen, hero.” His voice, full of determination, faltered for a moment. “I have no idea what I’m doing. It’s not like anyone was ever dying to kiss me.” Keigo wanted to add something but Dabi’s grip on his face tightened. “Stop that. I don’t want you pitying me. Just…I warned you, so don’t be disappointed.”
Dabi leaned in and this time, Keigo was a lot less awkward about it. He tilted his head, pressing into the kiss without second thought. His enthusiasm seemed to reassure Dabi, who relaxed after the first few seconds, self-doubt forgotten.
Keigo’s hands found his waist as they pulled each other closer together. Kissing Dabi was addicting. It made Keigo feel like was burning up, in a good way. He should’ve realised much sooner that this was what he’d been craving all along.
The contrasting textures of his lips, the taste of him, the gentleness in his touch - Keigo added all of it to his mental list of things he knew about A-rank villain Dabi. After a lifetime of reporting and documenting his every move, it was thrilling to have information solely for himself. No one else knew Dabi like this. And with every new fact he discovered, he grew more certain that he would never get tired of learning about him.

Dabihawks is not about what we get in canon (which is close to nothing), it's about the possibilities. It's about dabi being destined to be a hero like his father but becoming a villain and hawks being destined to be a villain like his father but becoming a hero. It's about both of them being amazed by endeavor and for it to save one of them and destroy the other. It's about touya and keigo who could've been best friends but dabi and hawks ending up enemies.
I'm still mad at horikoshi for dropping this art and not giving us a full-on gut-wrecking childhood friends backstory. The Touya reveal could've been even more heartbreaking (not that it is not already very heartbreaking) if hawks was counted in. Like just imagine having one and only friend that understands you, that lives through a horrible training like you and is your only source of comfort, and then one day your handler tells you with a cold voice that this person just died. No further explanations, no more informations, and then you're all alone again trying to become one of the best hero in this fucked up society.
And then during an undercover mission you notice that one of the villains in the League has the exact same eyes as your long lost friend (because the eyes are the only thing you remember), and you can't stop thinking about the possibility of him being alive but it's destroying you to think that he maybe became what you hate. But you can't help feeling drawn to him, until the betrayal and then BAM, revelation : your friend is alive but you can't save him.
And then Hawks has to live with the fact that the only friend he ever had is bound to be killed by his idol, and with the fact that this said idol is the one that hurt his friend on a so deep level that his friend doesn't even remember what it's like to feel a warm embrace or a comfort feeling. That his idol is exactly like his own father who violated him at such a young age. That the first person he wanted to save is unsavable. That the one he wanted to be a hero for is unsavable.
This would've been SO GOOD.
Dabihawks angst save me save me dabihawks angst.
don't think i didn't notice the red underneath touya's shoes
I'm not writing to you, I'm screaming... I'm screaming from a burning heart, from a mother who sees her beloved child slowly dying right in front of her and can't do anything. My child, Mohammed, is suffocating, weakening, his tiny body is trembling, his lips are turning blue... I see him fading in my arms, but all I have is tears, only tears!
Imagine holding your child, his last breaths dripping onto your chest, looking into his eyes as he bids you farewell without even being able to utter a word... This is what I'm experiencing now.
Mohammed is suffering from severe pneumonia. His frail body can no longer resist the disease, and the doctors have said that the only hope is urgent surgery... But this hope is distant, very distant, because I don't have the money to save him.
Imagine the doctor telling you: "Either you pay, or take him home and wait for his last breath!"
How can a heart bear to hear this about his child? How can I return home and put him in his crib, knowing he won't open his eyes tomorrow? How can I watch him pass away in my arms while I weep for him before he leaves me?
Please... help me before the grave closes... before his weeping turns into eternal silence!

bro is failing the nonchalant act
the core of dabis character is that he's a front line soldier in the idgaf war, but he's constantly losing
LMAO sameeee (*≧∀≦)人(≧∀≦*)♪
it's okay haha, one thing I love more than touyas body horror is everyone's reaction (mainly enji and rei's bc that's their son-) to the extent of it bc just imagine the heartbreak, the horror, the guilt, the ache 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。 I love it here lmao idm the derail in topic ♪ヽ(´▽`)/
and yeah. the fact that all endeavor could find was his part of his jaw. dawg my HEART.
yk the scene where dabi reveals himself and endeavor is literally going thru it all over again. when I was watching it, all I could think of was the heartbreak, the confusion, the denial, it's all THERE. this man is going over every little detail of sekoto peak after his son's 'death'. every possible detail that could've indicated touya's survival, what did he miss ? could he really have saved his son ? could he have saved his family from the grief ? could he have saved more than a fragment of touya's jaw ?
maybe he could have. the same son that he was just starting to believe to be dead is now right in front of him. that outcome was possible in another universe. and doesn't that hurttttttttttttt enji, omy gosh none of them deserve this
it makes me wonder if enji was ever close to discovering touya's body. as in, he's a pro hero and that's his son, so enji wasted no time in running into the forest. but the fire was 2000°c !!! touya's flames are wayyyy hotter than enji's, and sure, enji has more resistance but it doesn't mean that he's immune to the effects of fire.
imagine, the smoke clinging to his lungs, causing him to heave. the ash making his eyes water and his vision blur. the unmistakable smell of burning flesh. none of this is easing his worry. there's no sign of touya anywhere. all that he can hear is the blaze of the inferno that's taking his son away from him. and isn't it deafening (;´-`)
imagine that in all of his panic and distress, enji misses touyas corpse. wouldn't that be tragic. as much as I think AFO defo came in asap and swiped touya immediately, I can't help but feel like that this is a possibility that goes through enjis mind. it's written all over his face in that scene omy goshhhhhhhhugngh this is making me sick
can we talk abt touya's medical trauma more please
