robin and nancy continue to be best friends, robin starts dating vickie, nancy doesn’t understand why she’s all of a sudden so jealous, nancy breaks up with jonathan before they leave for college but the split is amicable, robin and nancy go to different schools but send each other letters and call each other all the time, nancy kisses a girl for the first time and likes it, robin breaks up with vickie and nancy helps her through it, she slowly comes to terms with her sexuality, then figures out why she was so jealous of vickie (because she was in love with robin duh), the two reunite during a break and have a moment (think the cazzie slurpee scene in atypical), they go back to school, keep in contact but something is different, it’s summer now and they spend almost every day together, one night they’re at robin’s place basically cuddling, they are pretending to watch a movie together but really they can’t stop stealing glances at each other, and their pinky fingers have inched closer until they are linked together, and nancy breaks the silence and says something cliche like “how did you know you liked girls?” and robin thinks she catches on, she starts to talk but she’s stammering and tripping over her words because nancy is looking at her with literal heart eyes, and her eyes keep flicking down to robin’s lips, and then she looks away and whispers “i think i’m… i think i like girls too,” and robin’s eyes go wide and somewhere in herself she finds the courage to ask, “is there any girl in particular?” and nancy glances at her sideways, nudges her, and says “you know.” and they both look down at their touching hands, and then robin thinks fuck it and leans in, and nancy leans closer and they’re kissing and they’re smiling and their hands are tangled in each other’s hair and it’s perfect.
