There is so much to break down here holy shit
First off, I like how Fukuzawa and Mori are the only one fully on different sides here, I think of all the generations of skk they are the ones who simply and truly hate eachother. Everything about them is antithetical, they represent the complete opposite values.
skk here is also interesting, look at chuuyas expression, he has his typical "I hate being here but i have no choice" look that he had as the king of sheep. And Dazai literally leaning over him is pretty spot on for how we see their partnership play out for most of their time in the mafia.
sskk being back to back here I think actually shows their trust in eachother now, Fyodor being a present threat and both of them wathcing eachothers back. There's also the fact that Atsushi is looking up while Akutagawa is looking straight ahead
Two things to know about me:
1- I love women
2- I'm a fucking cinephile
So I decided to mix these two things and BOOM! Bsd girls x Horror movies ✌️
Some things never change (modern AU)
For those of you who may not be too familiar with the manga, during ch39: Portrait of a Father, Akutagawa shows up, as Dazai's informant, to give Atsushi documents about who the orphanage headmaster was and what happened to him.
At that moment, Akutagawa shows an uncharacteristic clemency towards Atsushi, saying that "Atsushi's master died today", and compares this to his own relationship with Dazai.
This was a long time ago now, and a lot has happened since. The Cannibalism arc is right after this, where they are very antagonistic towards each other, and includes this scene:
Akutagawa, despite his bitterness towards Atsushi for who he is to Dazai, has seen how similar they are in this sense. Atsushi hasn't, because his gratefulness towards Dazai prevents him from seeing that Akutagawa's experience was completely different with this same person. (he's also not given any time by the narrative to wonder about it)
but then just came along chapter 122!!!
Atsushi gets to see, 1:1, the relationship between Akutagawa and Dazai. For the first time, Akutagawa is relatable to him.
And of course, at the end, Atsushi calls out the illusion as being the headmaster wearing Dazai's face because we are closing this loop! We are forcing Atsushi to see Akutagawa the same way Akutagawa has been seeing him!
Low key the hunting dogs are so much further detached from humanity than I think we give them credit for.
Aside from the obvious dehumanizing of themselves to characters like Sigma or Kunikida, they also just treat their bodies like objects.
Teruko punctures her own eardrums without hesitation to protect her brain.
Jouno’s first thought when being lit on fire is using his blood to cool the flames.
Tecchou says that even if they knock him down from the helicopter, he’ll just use his sword to get right back up, not even mentioning the pain.
Tachihara stabs himself with his own ability to keep his cover. When the coin bomb explodes in his hand, he’s only mildly upset that it could’ve “messed him up”, before going back to what he was doing.
Fukuchi was willing to be the centerpiece of his plot for world peace, and intentionally took the blame. It’s no mistake that his plan included his death.
Beyond all that, Teruko describes them as slaves to society. Tachihara (and I think Fukuchi also does this) refers to them as the fangs of the government.
One of the translations of Fukuchi’s speech to Fukuzawa while he’s being interrogated is that the Hunting Dogs won’t rest until they catch their prey because that’s how they were designed.
Idk just something abt the silly dog soldiers and their own humanity. Not questioning it, that’s not their place. They already know that they’re weapons.
BSD chapter 121 – SPOILER / "THEORY"
Something i haven't seen anyone else point out, is that in the last pannel of the chapter, "Dazais" clothes clearly don't fit him
For comparison, both from the same chapter
His coat is clearly too big for him. The sleeves hang too low, usually just below the elbow, now down to his wrists.
His pants don't fit him either, although the coat hides it pretty well.
Overall his clothes are significally more baggy.
His hair is also parted diffrently. Dazais hair is almost always parted down the middle. First I thought his hair was being blown by the wind – thusly messing the parting – but one look at the hem of the coat proved me wrong.
The right side of his hair is instead longer then the left side.
He also seems to not have his neck bandage. The longer then usual sleeves concealing his arm bandages (or the lack thereoff).
"Dazai" is morphing into someone else. Which brings me to:
Atsushi is shorter then Dazai, making Dazais clothes most likely too big for him.
The longer side of Atsushis hair is the right one. The parting of hair – while not exact – seems to also match our resident tiger lad.
The illusion of Dazai is being torn apart, as Atsushi realizes its true nature. His own thoughts, fleelings, and conclusions wearing a Dazai themed Halloween mask.
When Atsushi says he 'knows who you are, he's not talking about Dazai or the hallucination, but *himself.*
Atsushi has never needed someone else to tell him to live, but he has always felt like he does.
To be less extra 'bout it, i think Atsushi groked what he is and is going use that to save Akutagawa / kick Fyodors ass.
If i missed or got smt wrong feel free to tell me
Kouyou and Verlaine are so similar, no wonder they are both Chuuya's older sibling figures and Kyouka's mentors. Both are executives whose specialty is murder, and who we know have trained several assassins for the Port Mafia. They both encounter a teenager so much like themselves when they were younger that they decide to do everything to stop them from making the same mistakes they made, even if they end up hurting them in the process. They both genuinely believe that what they are doing is the best for Chuuya and Kyouka, based in their own past experiences, because they are so alike that, to them, there's no way that the outcome won't be the same. Their only interaction in Stormbringer is them fighting with each other, exactly because they disagree in what's best for Chuuya. Verlaine killed the flags to make Chuuya agree in letting the mafia, Kouyou was willing to kill Atsushi to distance Kyouka from the ada. Like, even their personalities are similar. I could totally see them being friends if they had met in a different way (but with the way they met in the cannon, I'm sure they still hold a grudge against each other. It doesn't matter that Verlaine understood the mistakes he made, and that Chuuya accepted him as his brother at the end of it all, they still don't get along and don't plan on doing so anytime soon).
Hello everyone.🥹
Did you know that here in Gaza, between 600 and 500 people die every day, including children, women, and men, and no one sees me or knows about us? Did you know that the crossings are closed and there is no food or drink? Did you know that the doctor told me that my fetus is in danger and that I must eat healthy food and take injections until my pregnancy is complete?
Did you know that this is my first fetus after trying to get pregnant for more than three years?
Please, do you know what it means to lose a child?
Please, I do not want to lose my child.
Here is the donation link.
Your donation will save my child's life. Please donate.🥹🥹
