Ninjago: Zane’s Christmas Wish
Written for: @ninjagofluffytrashbin - Merry Christmas, and here’s my Secret Santa gift for you!!
“Eggnog, anyone?”
Twinkling lights filled the room, ambient Christmas music played softly, and each member of the team was decked out in holiday spirit. It was the perfect mood for eggnog, but maybe not from Cole.
Cole, who was wearing a sparkly Santa hat, rolled his eyes at the grumbling crowd as he held two glasses of creamy drink. “I promise, straight out of the carton. I didn’t touch it up at all.”
After that remark, people began to accept drinks. Lloyd passed one to his mom and Ronin, only glancing at Dareth who was snoozing on the couch. Jay and Nya took theirs and clinked them together with a smile. Borg turned his down, but Kai and Skylor took theirs with a grin, only to quickly hide them behind their backs and sneak some brown liquid into each of theirs. Cole raised his eyebrows towards Zane, but he politely declined.
“What does eggnog taste like?” the familiar warm voice only Zane could hear asked. “I think it tastes like creamy milk,” Zane responded. “But I have never tried it. It’s very bad for my body.”
PIXAL giggled, making Zane smile. He loved that sound. “I’m sure it’s bad for their bodies too.”
It didn’t seem like it as the team all downed their eggnog quickly. Jay gagged instantly. “COLE! WHY DOES MY EGGNOG TASTE LIKE CREAMY SOUP??”
The room burst into laughter, jolting Dareth awake, but also making the room more joyful than thought possible. “Oh, you got that one?” Cole called from the kitchen.
This year was the first annual Christmas party in the new headquarters for the ninja, the Temple of Airjitzu. They could finally host a fifteen foot tree in the main floor of the temple, which was covered from head to toe with fruit-colored tinsel (one for each ninja color), multicolored lights, and ornaments of all shapes and sizes. On the top of the tree sat Master Wu’s hat, mainly in memory of his spirit, since he was still lost in time.
Zane loved Christmas because not only was the environment constantly gorgeous to look at, but all of his friends just seemed happier. It was also PIXAL’s favorite holiday because she was curious about all the traditions and wonders of the season. It was always a joy to explain some little detail of Christmas to the curious mind of his love. However, the one thing he desired most was unobtainable for him. I was only a damper on his spirit though, he did already have everything he wanted smiling at him in his head.
Jay was still spitting and gagging from his pranked drink while the room was still chuckling at his silly reaction. “I’ll go get you some water, Jay,” Nya patted his leg before walking through the doorway to the kitchen. Unfortunately, she bumped into Cole coming back out with two glasses of eggnog at the door. They both froze when their shoulders collided, both of their faces going pale.
A collected gasp rose from the room, then everyone went silent. Even Jay swallowed his disgustingly flavored spit to gawk at what just happened.
Cole and Nya stared at each other before slowly looking up at the small green plant hanging above them.
“I hate mistletoe,” both Cole and Nya said under their breath in unison.
They awkwardly looked over at the group, who were all awkwardly looking back at them. “Uh,” Cole spoke out-loud, then tried to take a step away from the doorway.
A cry rose from the party forcing Cole to freeze. “That’s the mistletoe, Cole!” Kai snickered next to Skylor. “It’s sacred! Remember when I got stuck under there with Jay?”
“Let’s not bring that up ever again,” Jay wheezed on the couch. His cheeks were crimson red.
Dareth began to dig into his pocket. “I’ve gotta get a picture of this,” he muttered. Ronin and Lloyd nodded, each with a grin.
“I love mistletoe,” PIXAL whispered to Zane. He hesitated before agreeing.
Cole and Nya slowly looked back at each other. “This is embarrassing,” she whispered.
“You’re telling me,” he whispered back. Without trying, he felt his eyes drag towards Jay.
“I’m sorry dude, but it’s the Sacred Mistletoe,” he called to Jay.
“I hate you!”
“I know.”
Dareth was getting his camera pulled up on his phone. “Crap,” Nya hissed when she saw him. Without hesitation she grabbed the front of Cole’s sweater and pulled him down into a kiss.
The room burst into cheers. Nya turned away and vanished into the kitchen. Cole dropped both the eggnogs he was holding.
“Oh, uh-“ Cole jerked away from his trance. “Still getting used to my new hands. I’ll uh, clean that up.” He backtracked into the kitchen to grab a rag and a broom.
Dareth stuffed his phone back into his pocket disappointed in missing the best photo while all the others were back to excited buzzing. Zane sat in silence with a smile, mostly because he was watching Jay try to silently hold back his resentment for Cole.
Nya stormed out of the kitchen with a cup of water; her face was still crimson. Kai gave her a quick whistle, but she had other plans. She put the water down on the table and then pulled Jay into a long passionate kiss.
“OH GROSS!” Kai gagged as he spat out his sip of eggnog. “Give me a warning before you do that!” The room was once again filled with laughter as Nya sat back down and took a quick swig of water. “Sorry about that,” Nya told Jay as she handed him the water. For a moment he stared at her without moving, his entire face now crimson red.
Finally he took the glass. “Are you sorry about the thing with Cole because it’s totally cool now,” Jay answered her. She giggled and then leaned her head on his chest. Zane could tell from her expression and the expression of Cole as he walked back in after cleaning the mess, that they both enjoyed the kiss but will never admit it.
Cole sank into the seat next to Zane. “Never use footage of that kiss, you hear?” Cole muttered into Zane’s ear.
The robot smiled sourly. “Of course.”
The black haired ninja noticed Zane’s expression. “What’s wrong buddy?”
Zane paused, his eyes glued to the mistletoe. “Nothing,” he responded, which was a lie. He could never say his desire out-loud because it was silly and impossible. “Just a thought.”
Cole nodded then took a sip of his eggnog.
“Go under the mistletoe.”
PIXAL was quiet for so long, he almost flinched when she talked. “But-“ Zane began, worried that PIXAL might of misunderstood the meaning of the mistletoe.
“Trust me. Go stand under it.”
He didn’t want to argue with his love, so he slowly stood. Nobody really acknowledged him until he came to a stop under the doorway.
“Uh,” Ronin called to the nindroid. “Who are you wanting a kiss from in this room?”
“Nobody,” Zane answered simply. “I’m curious myself why PIXAL wanted me to come stand under here.”
“Stand still for a second,” PIXAL instructed. Zane tightened his gears, but he was still confused.
“Seriously, Zane-“ Cole started, but he was interrupted with a flash of blue light coming from Zane’s eyes. One second, the doorway was empty, the next, it was filled with a blue hologram.
“Oh my,” PIXAL spoke, but instead of inside Zane’s mind, she was now being formed as a life-size holographic image using Zane’s eyes. “I seem to of run into you under the mistletoe.”
Zane was speechless. The room was quiet, and out of the corner of his eye he saw Kai and Skylor exchange a smile as they looked on.
“PIXAL, you are brilliant,” Zane grinned at his love. He reached out his hand and she instantly took it, as if she knew he was going to reach out to her. “And I love you so much.”
The female robot smiled back. “I love you as well. Now we can uphold the Sacred Mistletoe like Cole and Nya, and Jay and Kai.”
Zane laughed, followed by the room. As the holiday cheer filled the space of family and friends, PIXAL leaned over and kissed Zane, granting his only Christmas wish.

I Am Here (Pixane) (Ninjago Valentine’s Week - Day Six)
Day Six: Favorite Canon Ship
I’ve grown to be a huge sucker for Pixane, and, honestly, MotO put me in a huge Pixane mood, so my current favorite Ninjago ship is most definitely Pixane. This one isn’t sad necessarily, more of Hurt / Comfort. Also, I have literally never written for Pixal before, so there’s the possibility that this could be wildly out of character, but I tried! Speaking of, I headcanon that Zane actually gets irritated / angry extremely easily, but he’s able to keep it in his head and then let it cool down, so that kind of plays into this. But, um, yeah! Enjoy!

(Takes place after The Fall)
It was safe to say that Pixal knew Zane better than most people, especially considering she had lived in his head for a few years.
She knew all of his doubts and fears, all of his darkest and most hidden inner thoughts. She knew about all of his quirks, all of his weird habits and strange behaviors. She knew each and every single gear, wire, or piece of Zane inside and out.
She also knew that he can have quite the temper. Especially when he’s upset.
As Zane angrily marched away from Lord Garmadon, Pixal knew immediately that she had to follow. She shot a glare at the Dark Lord for both his lack of empathy and the way he had stereotyped Zane, before retreating after him.
Zane had walked fast, far faster than she had expected, and by the time she had left the deck, she had lost him.
But, Pixal knew nearly everything about Zane, so she was nearly certain she knew where he was.
Her educated guess had proved to correct as she stepped into the ninja’s room and saw Zane sitting on Cole’s bed.
Her love’s eyes were closed, one arm propped on his knees so his head could rest in his hand, the other hand desperately clutching the black bed sheets. She stood in the doorway, observing him for a moment, before she ever so softly entered the room and closed the door.
He didn’t look up at her as she sat beside him and began to gently rub his back. A soft, pained, sigh fell from his lips, as she did so. It was then that she realized that he was crying.
“Zane,” she whispered, her fingers gracefully dancing across his back. “Are you o-”
“I am not okay, Pixal,” he snapped, remaining motionless as he spoke. “Cole is gone.”
“I am… sorry,” she said soothingly, choosing to ignore the harsh tone in his voice. “I have not spent as much time with him as you have, but I know he was a good person.”
A sob elicited from him then. “He was.”
“You know that… that I am here for you. I am here,” spoke Pixal uncertainly.
Zane took a deep breath before slowly opening his tired, sad, now tearless, eyes and gazing into hers. “I know, Pixal,” he replied. “I am sorry for lashing out at you. I just… I cannot stop thinking about him. That moment. He did not scream. He did not yell for us. He just fell.”
Pixal’s eyebrows furrowed with sadness as he spoke.
“He looked scared, Pixal,” he continued. “He looked terrified. And all I could do was watch him fall.” His eyes were filled with tears he was trying so desperately not to let fall once more.
And Pixal knew Zane. She knew him well enough to know how he was feeling, how he felt through that little he had expressed to her.
“This was not your fault, Zane,” she told him, removing her hand from his back and placing it over his hand that was now almost embedded into the bed. “There was nothing you could have done.”
“I am a nindroid, Pixal. I was built to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I have failed in protecting Cole,” argued Zane. “I just stood there and stared. I could not move. I could not think. All I could do was stand there.”
Pixal sighed, wrapping her fingers around his and squeezing gently. “You are mistaken. You just told Garmadon that you were not thinking logically, and you are not. Cole was on the ladder. You were on the ship. There is nothing you could have done to prevent this from happening,” she bluntly stated.
She made sure their eyes were locked before adding, “He is dead, but not because of you.”
That did it.
His tears began to fall as ugly sobs wracked his body. Pixal helped shift his position so they were laying across Cole’s bed, her back resting against the bed frame as Zane desperately clung to her. His head was pressed tightly against her shoulder, his hands and frame shaking.
She said nothing. She just held her love, rubbing her fingers on his palm, allowing his tears to fall onto her. A few of her own fell as well.
They stayed like that until Zane’s tears did not fall as violently, until he felt comfortable removing his face from her shoulder and allowing his head to fall there instead.
“Thank you,” he whispered to her, tilting his head upwards to kiss her cheek.
She smiled, allowing herself to slip down the frame until she was at completely laying down like Zane. She leaned in and pressed a kiss upon his lips. “I love you,” she said to him. “And I will always be here for you, my love.”

I kind of wanted that t be longer but, too late, I suppose. I’ve been working on an annotated bibliography for my AP Literature class when I realized I hadn’t written this one yet and I still have twenty minutes left of the thirteenth, but this seemed like a good place to end it!
I hope you all enjoyed, because FSM knows Zane was (well, neither was anyone else) not okay after the fall. I mean, did you see the way he just stared at the darkness afterwards? In the shot right before Kai runs to the wheel he’s just… staring. He seemed like he couldn’t move and I wish we had gotten to see the group mourning more and, well, Pixal followed Zane so hurt / comfort fluff we never got!

I recently watched your essay that was called "Plastic Women" (I think?)
It was so awesome I loved how you described Pixal in the video (She is my number 1 Favourite character in the show as well), I would agree with the majority of them!! Especially the character swap in Crystalised where Pixal crashes instead of Zane.
And Bro when you were saying about Seabound about Nya's Mom and How her Mum was right. My mum literally walked in to check on me and I literally busted out "I love you MOM!" out of nowhere LOL!!!
I was annoyed by the fact people are sending stupid and idiotic comments about it since I loved it and it shows how women are treated in Ninjago and I lean into these types of topics a lot!!
