Can we all just weep at John’s body language in 3 & 4: “Constantly transferring your weight from one foot to the other or rocking forward and backward is a comforting movement that indicates you are anxious or upset…[rubbing your earlobes] is a soothing action to counter feelings of uneasiness or vulnerability.”

(Also in no.3, John and Paul’s synchronised head turning, ama cry over that as well, they were so attuned to each other goddamnit.)

This isn’t a shitpost though. It’s a literal play by play of what happened between these 2 idiots. I wonder if Paul lies in bed late at night and regrets not taking John up on his offer of a repeat performance?

Get Back Part 2 - India Conversation: The Subtext

Paul: "You just sort of see us, what we're doing..." "It's unbelievable, you know?"

Subtext: Boy did we act completely abnormally in India!

George: "What were you doing?"

Subtext: You and John have been acting extremely weirdly since India, what the hell happened between you guys there???"

John: "Yes, what were we doing?"

Subtext: Yes George, something significant *did* happen between Paul and I but we're not going to explicitly tell you what it was.

Paul: "I don't really know, you know?" "But it's like, we totally sort of put our own personalities under for the sake of it..."

Subtext: I do not want to address what happened between us in India, as far as I'm concerned it wasn't the "real" us anyway so I'm not going to acknowledge it, you can't make me!

John: "Who was writing all them songs?"

Subtext: Nice try Paul, if it wasn't really us how did we write all those songs while we were in India???

Paul: "Oh that was- that was..."

Subtext: Damn, you got me there!

John: "In the room..."

Subtext: Don't push me Paul, I'll happily tell George about what we got up to in the privacy of your room...

Paul: "Yeah right, I remember yeah..."

Subtext: I remember *exactly* what happened John, do not say another word!!!!

George: "Do you regret having gone there?"

Subtext: Since neither of you will tell me what the hell happened, can you at least tell me whether it was worth it??? Was it good or bad???

Paul: "No no, oh no no"

Subtext: No I don't regret it, I just never want to acknowledge it ever again

John: "I don't regret anything... ever..." *Intense simulation of d*ck s*cking while staring intensely at Paul*

Subtext: Well, judging from the fact you can barely string a coherent sentence together, I clearly blew your mind... Literally. If you want a repeat performance you know where I am ;)

I feel for Paul here and I can see that he is hurt. I didn’t realise until I moved here to the U.K. that there is a whole sub culture of taking the piss out of your friends which at first seemed really mean to me until I realised everyone did it to each other. It could be George wasn’t meaning to hurt Paul but did it unintentionally which to be fair is the story of the Beatles in a nutshell lol

I agree! The reality is that all these authors have bias but if it’s in favour of Paul McCartney it’s ok because he’s seen as being victimised by the rock journalists of an earlier era. Erin Torkelson Weber has a quote I’ve often seen here that just because something came later it’s not necessarily untrue. But the important thing to keep in mind is it’s not necessarily true either. Paul McCartney has a huge advantage over John Lennon in that when he tells his story, the emotions of the situation have settled which makes him seem like a more rational source, unlike John who was still working through his emotions in the 70s as the events were still in recent memory. Paul has also had time to think about how to make his story palatable to today’s audiences where times have changed, which John never had given he died 40 years ago. He also has his legacy to preserve and of course will twist things to his advantage as who is going to challenge him? Yoko is ill and Sean doesn’t know the full story as he was only 5 when his dad died. I just think people need to think critically about this and realise that just because this is the latest version of events doesn’t necessarily make it true. The truth is always something in between

Why isn’t it Richard Nixon or Paul McCartney?”

Ah yes the typical tumblr experience. Thousands of posts where John is reduced to nothing more than the sum of his faults…crickets. One article about Paul that throws a few softball shots (in a sea of articles defending Paul’s every action as being completely justified) and the comments are full of essays defending Paul. And yet people around here keep saying that Paul is a victim that needs defending because of what happened back in the 80s when John had just been murdered and people in their horror may have gone too far one way. It’s kind of silly when you think about it.

Paul liked to keep his options open and this applied to friendship. Just when you thought you were getting to know him, to feel a commitment from him, he'd slip behind a smiling mask. Finally I came to accept this aspect of his nature and we worked together, travelled together in a relaxed fashion, but never with any developed contact.

Paul had a real appetite for life -- an exuberant optimism and a buoyant enthusiasm that was admirable even if at times it overwhelmed his sceptical partner, John.

Having Paul as your favorite Beatle is perfectly natural unless you've been into the Beatles for more than a month in which case it is sufficient to diagnose you with a personality disorder

As per usual high praise for every Beatle except John. And then these write ups get bandied around as being even handed. Seems like he wanted the get in with John and be part of the cool kids crowd and because John was selective about who he opened up to, he was off handed or referred to as brooding. Where is mention of John’s intelligence, humour, daring/pushing the boundaries and kindness that we know existed in abundance? This crap pisses me off

Ken Mansfield: Paul was the energetic one, the one that seemed like the popular kid in high school. He was the one whom you would cruise main street with your arms hanging over the car door edge, pressing tight to make your muscles look bigger. He would be the guy who would wave at the girls and slow down so they could jump in the back. I never felt a strong personal agenda coming from Paul, and by that I mean that it didn’t feel like you had to figure out who he was or where he was coming from. He was always presenting the next project or place to go. It was the sheer impetus of purpose that put things in motion so what you saw was an idea and a goal, and none of it needed complicated examination. “Here’s what we are about to do and that was exactly what we were about to do.”
