Istg, season 5 feels like the writers realized the fandom was getting sick of lloyd getting the majority of the screentime and decided to have morro take him out of the picture but also give him more trauma because that's definitely mandatory.
Hellspawn au because i refuse to let it die
In s8 was hellspawn also needed for the ritual?
I imagain so
And if so, how did they get her did the sog took her in the midst of the crabby fight? Maybe even used her to lure lloyd to the bounty to capture him (even tho we know he would have done so anyway)?
Makes you think how much darker it would make everything from the way back to the castle to the ritual itself considering the fact that this poor, tiny, 4-5 year old girl was there for the whole thing, probably scared out of her mind and threatened constantly with her dad and grandma only being able to watch and not able to actually comfort her on top of everything else thats happening and OMG this is some real angst material
...why didn't I think of that? I— I —
And yes, hellspawn was involved in the ritual. It wouldn't make sense if she wasn't involved in it otherwise — she's literally Garmadon's grandchild. I don't know why my brain even forgot that crucial detail.
So timing-wise, she was taken during the giant crab fight — when the crab burst out of the river in the first place. The commotion was enough for Ultra Violet to grab her on Harumi's orders. Kai notices it, and yells at everyone to stop her, which of course, leads to one-brain-celled Lloyd Spinjitzuing his way onto the bounty — which then leads to his inevitable capture. Harumi successfully kills two birds with one stone...everything is going according to plan.
They reach the Palace of Secrets with two hostages. Lloyd begs Harumi to keep the girl out of this but of course, Harumi doesn't give a shit. Lloyd gets put into his cage like he originally does, and Misako is horrified that her granddaughter has been captured as well. So since Harumi's insurance policy only has room for two cages, hellspawn gets put somewhere else; in one of the secret passageways that survived the SOG's attack on the palace. It's a small space with pitch black darkness. Really a one-way ticket to claustrophobia.
Lloyd doesn't shut up for even a second during his stay in his cage, shouting himself hoarse as he demands to know what the hell they've done with her. The same goes for Misako, but of course, Harumi's a sadistic bitch. It doesn't matter to her.
It's been a hot second since i watched season 4 but imagine a scenario where when they were checking all EMs for the anacondrai tattoo they were also checking Garmadon.
Homeboy dodged a bullet then and there when no one went to check him. Sure the ninja know he's on their side but the other EMs would instantly lose faith in the ninja.
They're harbouring this random old guy who's not even a part of the tournament and just forced himself in in the first place, Chen's being actively antagonistic to him (a ruse?) and now to top it all off this guy is apparently one of Chen's goons hiding right under their noses.
In canon that got exposed so late when all suspicions were already cleared. But any earlier and it would have been a mess
Random question; do satanists in Ninjago worship the Overlord? That's the fucking devil in this show right?
Whats hellspawn's relation ship with the rest of the EM's and other side characters?
Skylor
- Hellspawn hates Lloyd's favorite noodle dish on the menu, and Skylor won't let him live it down.
- She loves the fortune cookies though, which Skylor lets her have on the house. And after she opens each one, Lloyd snorts and calls out how ridiculous the fortune written is and Skylor just rolls her eyes before telling hellspawn that he's just jealous that his destiny is always the worst.
- Getting hellspawn to eat veggies is a struggle and Skylor immediately tells Lloyd it's his own fault for that. Lloyd can't even bring himself to argue because she isn't the first person who's told him that.
- Hellspawn also often questions Skylor about when she's going to marry her Uncle Kai and Skylor literally chokes. Lloyd doesn't completely stop cackling about it until a whole week later.
- She's the first person to question Lloyd about his daughter's elemental power and Lloyd just goes blank, not even sure of it himself. He isn't ready for her to inherit his and for him to lose his powers yet so he just tells Skylor that she's too young for them to be sure of anything yet.
Karloff
- I think Karloff would be this really big burly uncle that seems kinda intimidating at first, but is actually really sweet and is absolutely capable of crushing her when picking her up for hugs.
- During Garmadon's rule she often ran into Karloff and spent time with him because Lloyd wasn't feeling himself. (This was during Hunted, mind you, Lloyd wasn't fine at all)
- Hellspawn is fascinated by Karloff's 'mittens' and often played rock paper scissors with him while at the base. Thankfully, Karloff was all too happy to entertain her.
Tox
- She made hellspawn want to have green hair and Lloyd and Nya flat out told her no. (This was just after Hunted ended btw)
- Well the girl sulked about it for quite some time. When Nya told Kai about this, he almost had a heart attack.
Griffin Turner
- This guy lost his sunglasses at the Resistance's Base and was forced to play tag to get it back. Needless to say, he didn't sign up for this when he decided to help Lloyd & Nya in S9, but he bears with it. Maybe she's growing on him.
Neuro
- when Griffin moaned to him and Paleman that his sunglasses were missing, Neuro played dumb and encouraged the narrative that he probably left them somewhere, instead of telling him that Lloyd's daughter was the one who took them. He's already seen into her mind and found out what she plans to do, so he's just gonna let Griffin endure it to fuck with him.
Paleman
- Dude's the best person to play hide and seek with and hellspawn really wants to take full advantage of that. The only problem is, this guy keeps disappearing because he's learned from what happened to Griffin, so it's a bit of a struggle. The only time he actually agreed was after she asked him why he was called the Master of Light when all he can do is just disappear.
Shade
- Paleman wasn't happy that she showed no sign of making Shade play with her so he dragged him to join them. It was a fun game, surprisingly.
Camille, Ash, Bolobo, Gravis & Jacob.
- Since they weren't present in Hunted, hellspawn's never met them. (I'm not counting the tournament of elements season because hellspawn didn't even participate in it)
Mystake
- She met hellspawn for the first time when Lloyd took her to the tea shop, not knowing what to do since she was severely sick. Fortunately, Mystake had a tea for that, but didn't tell Lloyd that the virus hellspawn had only affected Oni children, which was why the medicine from the pediatrician Lloyd usually took her to didn't work.
Dareth
- Aside from Skylor, logically, this is another character that really interacts a lot with hellspawn. He even had to take care of her for a short period of time during Skybound after the ninja broke out of prison...but he doesn't remember this because of Jay's final wish.
- One day before S8, Lloyd lost her while going grocery shopping and she ran into Dareth, who brought her back to a panicking Lloyd.
- There should be a lot more but I can't think of anything else. 😅 You can add some if you want.
Ronin
- Hellspawn loves pulling his hair whenever she can reach it and Ronin curses Lloyd everytime she does. Whenever Jay sees this, he just lets it be for the fun of it.
Ray & Maya
- These two couldn't believe that their friend's kid now has a kid of his own so Misako had a pretty hard time explaining things to them.
- Maya : Okay, so not only are now my two children nearly adults but YOU'RE TELLING ME WE'VE BEEN IMPRISONED LONG ENOUGH FOR GARM TO HAVE A GRANDCHILD???!
- They really love having hellspawn around though. Ray often remarks on how much she looks and acts like Lloyd and he'll smile, and then Nya will chime in by saying she's actually much worse than Lloyd. Just give her a bit of candy and you'll have an absolute nightmare.
*The team staying in Yang's Temple*
Lloyd: Can we stay with you tonight?
Kai: Both of you? What happened?
Nya: Cole thought it would be funny to play with a ouija board in the attic and Zane thinks he cursed the whole temple
Lloyd: Jay wasn't any help. He doesn't know how to banish spirits, so he's just throwing salt at them and yelling "does this look like a hotel to you?!"
Kai: Get in here and lock the door
I'm sorry, but I just cannot take season 7 seriously no matter how hard I try. The writing and dialogue always feel so clunky and boring that I can never truly find myself invested in it. The only positive of this season is the Time Twins, but even they feel messily written at times! The animation also doesn't help at all, it always feels too "glossy", for lack of a better term.
ALSO, I have a deeply rooted hatred for "The Attack", mainly because the way Machia gets the Time Blade is because Lloyd waves them in the air for too long. That makes no sense to me but whatever.
Idk, I wanna hear your guys' opinions on this season actually! Do you guys hate or love it, or are you mixed on it? Let me know! I'd love to hear how you guys view it!
Ok, so i know that we already established that hellspawn hates harumi with a burning passion. But i need more than that.
How is their dynamic?
Does harumi still tries to "connect" with her only for her to retort with an impressive amount of sass for a 4yo? Does she think of how when all of this is over she will bash that brat's head into a wall?
Does hellspawn cling to her daddy's leg and give her death glares in every possible situations? Does she try to prevent any "romantic" moment/chemistry between the two?
And after harumi is revealed and the ritual "failed" is she going "I told you so" to literally everyone? Does she try to comfort lloyd saying stuff like; "you can't be sad because of her daddy thats what she want" or "there are far better possible mommies out there" or maybe even "im pretty sure she snores in her sleep anyway"
And lastly will there ever be a situation (maybe in s16?) That suddenly golden blond hair becomes long platinum braids, eye color becomes one she saw in the mirror every day, and even the scared look on her face became suddenly painfully familiar as harumi watched for mere few seconds as the green ninja's daughter image was replaced with her younger self
I have to say...that this is by far, my favorite ask from you.
I think Harumi would still try to connect with her, even though their dynamic is initially , 'seemingly nice princess tries every possible way to make a wary child as comfortable as possible in her presence' — I'm saving most of the sass for s16, when hellspawn's only sees this woman as a psycho.
But for s8, (at first) it's more like she's clinging to Lloyd's leg looking visibly uncomfortable. She knows that something is off, but she can't tell what. The ninja don't see anything wrong, and neither does Lloyd. Maybe she's shy. Or maybe the princess' makeup is scary. That's probably why she's acting like this.
Then in Dead Man's Squall, we get to see the death glares thing, which Lloyd reprimands her for when they're alone. The other ninja think it's cute because it just looks like she's jealous of the attention the princess is getting. And when Lloyd tries to stand beside Harumi in the control room, hellspawn reaches for his hand. She doesn't like it when her father and the Harumi are alone in the same room and FSM does something feel off.
But fortunately, after Dread on Arrival, Lloyd finally apologizes to her for dismissing her suspicions. We get to see some father-daughter comfort after that but it's mostly hellspawn doing the comforting because her dad just got himself some trust issues and a broken heart.
"And lastly, will there ever be a situation (maybe in s16?) That suddenly golden blonde hair becomes long platinum braids, eye color becomes one she saw in the mirror every day, and even the scared look on her face became suddenly painfully familiar as harumi watched for mere seconds as the green ninja's daughter image was replaced with her younger self."
YOUR MIND. OH DAMN, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT
To answer that one, there should be. I hate Harumi's redemption arc in crystalized but it would be nice to see this lol — especially because, now that I think of it, hellspawn does look a lot like Harumi. Even though this woman's prepared to make this girl's dad's life a living hell and throttle his midget, I can see this happening. Maybe these two could get into a situation where Harumi has to choose whether to save this child or let her die. Or maybe the Overlord needs her for something — she was created with Lloyd's Golden Power, you know. Gosh, I love this. Thanks for the idea!
One of my favorite things about the difference in the Lloyd and Garmadon fights in SoG and Hunted, is the music. Yes, they have a marked difference in tone just listening to them, but if you pay attention to the leitmotifs used, they also add to the story. (Leitmotif = a recurring musical phrase that represents a character or idea.)
“Garmadon’s True Potential” (which plays during the fight in True Potential) is primarily focused on Garmadon’s theme (the Sons of Garmadon theme is incorporated into Garmadon’s theme, showing their role in his revival) and the Garmadon family theme, with absolutely no usage of the Green Ninja theme. The one time the Ninjago theme is used is when it cuts to the other Ninja, it’s never used to symbolize a heroic moment by Lloyd. When Lloyd starts fighting in earnest, at the end, there’s no desperate-but-heroic rendition of the Green Ninja theme - it’s the SoG theme followed by the Garmadon family theme.
Being scored like this makes the fight basically entirely about Garmadon; Lloyd doesn’t get any victories, in the animation or musically. Lloyd goes into this fight with the intent to save his father, not fight him, so the music reflects that by emphasizing the Garmadon family theme. Garmadon’s theme is dissonant and evil sounding, while the Garmadon family theme is sad, bringing down the whole mood of the fight. Because there’s only one cutaway to the other Ninja, there’s also no reprieve; while the music does get quieter/less noisy in some moments, it’s six straight minutes of unsettling dissonance and tragic violins/vocals.
To contrast, “I Can Resist You” (which plays during the fight in Green Destiny) has all three themes, and more (for example, some interjections by the Resistance theme when it cuts to the other Ninja). It actually focuses less on Garmadon’s theme. This time, when Lloyd argues with his father, the Ninjago theme is played. When Lloyd grabs the Dragonbone Blade, we hear a modified Green Ninja theme. When he deflects a bolt of Destruction, Green Ninja theme.
Like the fight itself, this time the music feels like an actual fight instead of a one-sided beatdown, because Lloyd is musically represented by the Ninjago theme and Green Ninja theme. Garmadon’s theme and the family theme are still there, but the different instrumentation and harmonization lessen the impact on the mood. (Garmadon’s theme especially is played less and harmonized differently to make the overall music more melodic and thus feel less creepy.) Also, the music has “lighter” instruments like a flute, which the composers tend to associate with the heroes.
The unreleased portion of the soundtrack which plays after this track (starting when Lloyd gets the idea to use the Art of the Silent Fist) follows in a similar vein. During the parts where Lloyd is fighting Garmadon, the Resistance theme plays instead of Garmadon’s theme. When Lloyd gets his power back, the Green Ninja theme plays.
Musically, this shows the tide shifting as Lloyd starts winning. The Resistance theme is hopeful, really bringing up the mood. Garmadon’s theme only plays once more, at the very end when he’s lost his powers completely, and even then instead of being elaborated on in the usual continuation, a less dissonant variation is played which leads directly into the Green Ninja theme. It’s unified - there’s no interjection from Garmadon’s theme except at the end, signifying that the real fight is over.
tl;dr: In True Potential, the leitmotifs used are almost only Garmadon’s theme and the Garmadon family theme, which centers the scene on him and makes the fight one-sided musically. In Green Destiny, the Green Ninja, Ninjago, and Resistance themes give the fight more balance and focus on Lloyd’s victory. Also you should listen to the soundtrack because it’s good.
(Side note: Some people say that what I call the Garmadon family theme is simply Emperor Garmadon’s theme (and that he has two themes, I guess), but the Garmadon family theme only gets played in relation to, well, the Garmadon family. It’s just that a lot of the time, Lloyd ends up nearby when Emperor Garmadon gets screentime. Just listen to the musical cues for when he isn’t, though, and the 3-note theme gets played, not the family theme. [Unless he’s talking about Lloyd, which he does a lot.])
Screaming, crying and throwing up 🥹
really embarrassed to say that before watching dr i actually thought wyldfyre was kai & skylor's kid.
bye i'm gonna go hide in a hole questioning my judgement rn.
Lloyd and Lord G are my coping mechanism. I'm also on FFNet and AO3 And yeah, I can't draw.
