Guide to the Crystal Gems is a lovely little book, and it was the first of its kind to be released for this franchise.
It came out in 2015! The book doesn’t even have Sardonyx in the Fusions section (though the episode where we’d met her had aired recently when it was released).
It was the first place where we learned cross-Gem Fusions were unusual. It was the first place we saw Opal described as forgetful and peaceful. It was the first place Rose’s manifesto was printed. It was the first place Quartz was mentioned as a Gem class (that Steven, Amethyst, and Jasper were said to belong to). And there’s info that’s still very interesting about how Rose and Greg made Steven and how Fusions are more than a combo of the components; they also reflect the fusers’ influence on each other.
Lapis, Peridot, and Jasper were all Homeworld-aligned villains. No Diamonds are even in the picture yet. Steven’s never left Earth and he’s never fused with any Gems. He has barely begun coming to terms with his identity with regards to his mom.
SO
I have taken the liberty of updating my copy.
First, everyone needs a new look.
Now let’s look at Steven’s statements about himself and the other Gems.
Steven on his Gem type:
Steven on his fusion experiences:
Steven on his healing abilities:
Steven on his and Amethyst’s lack of space adventures:
Steven on Pearl’s closeness with Rose:
Steven on Lion:
ok fixed that for ya
Steven on his mom:
Garnet on Malachite:
The former Homeworld Gems’ alignment:
On Pink Diamond’s status:
You should still check out the book if you’re ever inclined, even if you’ll have to update it in your head as you read along!
Romance exhausted aro culture is selfishly wishing the characters stayed friends because the romance was done in such a boring, conventional way that the characters don't even feel unique anymore. Just archetypical grains in stale white bread without an ounce of un-forced romantic chemistry
.
You know who Espurr reminds me of? This restraint pokemon, always keeping destructive psychic power under check. Psychic powers it has no control over. Or it’ll destroy everything within a 300 foot raddius. Yup.
Also, Espurr is like, technically a cat right? Smol little psychic cat.
I spent way too long on this
