"You'll know who truly loves you Shouta, it's the little things we don't often notice..."
His mother used to tell him that while growing up, one of the many life lessons he would here from her. Comes with the territory of being raised by a single mother. She taught him everything there was to know about navigating this wild ride called life.
She taught him that love is kind and patient, it doesn't want anything in return. She told him that intimacy is gentle and compassionate, it doesn't need to be rushed or forced. But the one thing that really stuck with the man, was when she told him about marriage.
His father was always a distant man, only really appearing for his life milestones: Graduations, Birthday parties, he even showed up at his wedding.
His mother once said: "Marry for love, and it will be all you need".
At the time when she said that, Shouta was just fresh out of the hero academy. He wasn't even thinking about things like love or marriage. But now, looking at his husband Toshinori, sharing a bed with him while being the big spoon...
It all suddenly made sense.
He held Toshinori close to his body, like a child with their favorite stuffed animal. All those things his mother taught him, he finally understood what it all meant.

Day 3 - Injuries
Sometimes injuries were small, but sometimes they were big. Sometimes they were meaningless; just being a little reminder to not be reckless. But sometimes they were hurtful; hurtful on the inside and outside, for no reason at all...
Sometimes you just felt sad, whether it be an injury or not.
When feelings are bottled up inside you, they build up higher and higher till they lose their foundation and collapse.
And when it collapses, it breaks.
And when it finally broke, Setsuna broke too.
Sat with her legs crossed against her chest, tears welled out of her eyes with a tissue box next to her; soon about to be completely empty. She sat with her back against the frame of her bed, sniffling helplessly.
The others were asleep by now, and she worried that her bawls would wake them up.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
She wiped her nose with her periwinkle shirt sleeve and looked at the screen.
Manga was calling. How unusual...
She pressed the answer button.
"Manga?" She said, putting on her best I-just-woke-up voice. "What's up?"
"Hey, Setsuna," he replied, "how are you?"
Setsuna paused for a few seconds, before answering with; "good. Tired, but good. You?"
"I'm doing alright, I guess."
"It's pretty random that you called me, especially at this time. Are you sure everything is okay for you?"
"Yeah, I'm sure." There was a pause at the other end of the line, "are you sure that you're just 'good?'"
"Yeah, that I'm sure of."
"Good."
And then there was a deathly silence that got to all.
"Well, um... goodnight!"
"Yeah, night! Sweet dreams!"
The call was ended.
Setsuna switched off her phone and collapsed face first onto her bed, hugging her pillow...
Someone cared.
About her.
Maybe she was just making a big deal out of it, but she felt a warm reassurance. Someone she barely spoke to, actually took their own time into asking if she was okay. She barely spoke with him. Barely...
She smiled to herself, and put in a mental note to do the same for him.
And after her long episode of feeling unwanted and empty, she fell asleep, knowing that someone really did care.

Yes, I know this wasn't a literal interaction, but I put in some thinking about how an actual relationship would kick off, y'know?
I just figured that if he made her feel happy, that would make her notice him more.
Or maybe I just overthink things...?

A Lesson and Progress:
Saiko stared at the ceiling of the nurse’s office.
She failed.
But she didn’t really fail. She passed the exam. But for some reason, she felt a heavy weight in her chest.
She was... disappointed, some would say.
Her friends had already begun preparing for summer vacation - some were traveling, yet others were spending time with their families in their hometowns...
But Saiko was...
Well, what was she doing? She was still sulking around like a failure.
She slowly lifted herself up - not wanting her injuries to worsen with sudden movements. The combat she had done was too much for her to handle on the day of that exam, and she regretted not practising before.
She looked at herself in a mirror with shame - her hair was a huge mess and heavy bags hung from under her eyes. Who would bother to look at that?
Suddenly, the door opened.
"Get back in bed, Tea-Brain."
It was Ataru.
"You of all people I really didn't expect to see." Saiko quickly brushed off her sad expression. "Neither did I want to see you."
"Ha-ha, very funny." Ataru shot, sarcastically, "now get back in bed."
"No."
"I wasn't asking. Now do it."
Saiko huffed and sat on the bed again, "for the record-"
A brown bag was suddenly stuffed in her face. "Here," interupted Ataru.
"Excuse me?" Saiko took the bag and glared at her classmate. "Am I some sort of bag-holder to you?"
"I mean, it would be pretty useful if you were."
Saiko blinked.
"It's for you."
She blinked again. "Me?"
"Yes, you. Who else would it be for?"
Saiko held back an excited smile. "What's in it?"
"Why don't you open it and find out?" Ataru took a seat next to Saiko on the bed. Saiko paused.
"Is this some sort of trick?"
"For crying out loud, you nerd - just open it."
Saiko unraveled the bag and held it open.
"Tea?"
She tried to hold back her excitement.
"Yeah."
She hurriedly took the tea box out of the bag.
"You got me..." she paused and shook the box. "There's... nothing in here..."
"You sure?"
Saiko shot a glare at Ataru again. "You think this is funny?"
"Kinda," smirked Ataru.
"Well it's not."
"Just open the box, okay?"
Saiko rolled her eyes, "fine." She opened the box, and took out a small piece of folded paper.
"Really?"
"Oh, come on. You didn't even read what's on it."
Saiko sighed and opened the paper, carefully reading what was on it.
"What does it say?" Asked Ataru, who showed no genuine interest in the note whatsoever.
"It says to open the door."
"Then do it."
Saiko slowly stood from the bed, then turned around to Ataru. "If this is some kind of prank, I'll make everyone hate you." She said coldly.
"Eh, they already do."
Saiko approached the door cautiously and opened it.
"Surprise!"
Everyone in the exam - everyone that was with her - they were all there.
Tomomi, Setsuka, Chihiro - all of them.
"What... what..." Saiko was surprised, needless to say.
"We all came to visit you!" Smiled Kosa, "how are you feeling?"
All of them leaned in to listen to Saiko's response.
"B... better?"
They all grinned happily. Suddenly, Saiko was nudged in the shoulder. She turned around to see Ataru holding another tea box.
"Here."
Saiko took the box and opened it, expecting another note.
She smiled greatly, "it's tea! Thank you!"
"Sure."
She pulled in Ataru for a big hug, but got pushed away shortly after.
"Yeah, yeah. Don't get too close." Ataru warned, hiding the red blush on her face. Saiko smiled brightly at all of them.
"Thank you, all. This really made my day." Thanked Saiko. All of her classmates smiled joyfully.
They began to crowd her, each one giving her a hug or telling her stories about what happened while she was gone.
"Okay, guys, give the girl some space.”
They all stepped back, and after a short few minutes, Saiko went back into the nurse’s office again.
She shut the door behind her, clutching the tea box with both of her hands; a warm feeling of appreciation and gratitude outshone the previous feeling of disappointing.
Saiko smiled to herself, then set the tea box down on the bedside table and laid back down on the bed.
I have such wonderful friends...
