Red- Katie
Purple- Vaggie
Advertisement was difficult for the hotel, as commercials were expensive and never certain to be effective. Going out in person didn’t guarantee to yield better results. Vaggie spent hours on the street of downtown Pentagram City, handing out custom flyers, while attempting to blabber out witty quips about said hotel. Though some pitied her by taking a flyer, but the return was non-existent. By the middle of the afternoon she was packing up her stand to leave, caked in sweat and debris.
Heels clacked from a salon mere feet away from Vaggie, a tall figure casting a shadow over the sunset that was beaming down on her.
“Holy shit… I forgot you even existed.” a stern yet almost booming voice announced from above. Katie Killjoy’s voice was so iconic with or without a microphone, and her words filled Vaggie with distress. Vaggie turned to face Miss Killjoy, who was daunting her well established shapewear dress, and sharp smile.
‘What.. could you possibly want.” Vaggie uttered in an unenthusiastic, almost miserable tone. Her arms crossed in a defensive stance.
“Now is that how you greet a potential patron? No wonder that building is lifeless.”
Vaggie could feel frustration building, as Katie was partly responsible for jumpstarting the Hotel’s spotty reputation. Members of the hotel were immediately mocked and belittled for suggesting such a possibility of improvement, and nobody could deny the influence Katie had on the general public.
‘No.. but it is the proper way to talk to a bitch like you.” Vaggie blurts out with confidence, the words almost fighting to desperately escape her mind.
“Guilty as charged!” the words also bursting out of Kaite’s mouth in an overly positive, obviously mocking tone. “I must say.. The dedication to keeping those doors open is astounding! To think that nobody will come in, you stand ready at the post regardless.” she bends over to meet Vaggies face, her tone still dripping in mockery.
“I’m sure if you keep giving us attention, more people will show up.. So thank you for the eventual customers.” Her delivery smug and smooth
“Attention or not, it’s clear that not one degenerate loser that festers here has any interest in becoming better. It’s funny to watch Charlie play pretend while ignoring legitimate issues in hell.”
“Well just because YOU don’t think people want it, doesn't mean it applies to everyone. A bit unfair to assume everyone's beliefs align with yours, isn't it? Some people don’t let the news spoon feed them blindly!”
Katie was thrown off by the surprisingly coherent, yet equally aggressive response.
“Maybe with words like that, instead of positive nonsense, your hotel would actually go somewhere.” the words spat out with disdain
“So why be so ruthless against it if you think it could work!” Vaggie was frustrated and breathless, the hardship of the day combined with the intense conversation breaking her down.
“What you’re doing can work, but it won’t yield much. Why would anyone here redeem themselves? They’re free to divulge in all their degeneracy whenever they wish. There is no surefire way of getting a soul into heaven, it’s blind effort.”
Her words piercing Vaggies ego, yet remained still and confident while Katie spoke.
Moments of silence and contemplation pass by, both girls at a loss of words, until Katie breaks the prolonged silence.
“Sinners have normal lives down here, and heaven obviously doesn't care enough regarding redemption or improvement for sinners. Miss Failingstar needs to lift her people up, not play suck up to a bunch of Angels.”
A light wind blows by, both sets of hair reacting slightly to the gust. Light murmurs emerge from the sidewalks, the argument continued long enough to garner an audience. Vaggie was spent, having a realization of sorts. That realization being there was no convincing Katie, nor changing her. Perhaps she had a point, as she herself was one of may who could care less of The princesses endeavors. Katie eventually walked away slowly, making lng strides in the opposite direction, and leaving silence as the final word.
Vaggie was being tested, both her mental and ideals were given disgusted words or faces. She knew this was a pivotal point in her efforts, determining if this was make or break. She yearned to cry, give up, and lay dormant in the hotel forever. Vaggie had to continue to wear her tough skin, even if it was borderline callused at this point.
She swallowed hard, wiped away forming tears, and made the arduous walk home.
“I must say Tom, your hair looks… decent today”
“Did you just compliment me?”
“That’s the most I’m giving you, take it or leave it.”
“Well.. thank you, Katie..”
“ I- you’re welcome… nerd”
Despite the hostility towards each other, both on and off camera, moments of romantic tension would sprout once in a blue moon. Tom felt fuzzy when interacting with Katie, and the same emotion was slowly growing on Katie herself.
“oh yes!…how unfortunate of you to remind me😒”
