When I see this statue, I can’t help but remember Kate Quinn’s Empresses of Rome series.

Roman Statue Of Empress Vibia Sabina, Wife Of Hadrian (r. 117-138 CE). Marble.

Historic Sit In

Just found out today that one of the first sit-ins in America happened at the Alexandria Library in 1939. This was started by a black lawyer named Samuel Wilbert Tucker, and while he lost the case, Tucker continued to fight back against segregation and was part of the NAACP.

Bisexual Men

Just a thought but bisexual men (and m-spec men in general) are:

-not gay in denial

-don’t deserve to be your scapegoats for the AIDs crisis

-valid mlm regardless of whom they date (and stop insinuating that their girlfriends are their “beards”)

-can be polyamorous

-can be asexual and still valid

-can be aromantic and still valid

-awesome in general!

LOL.

The Romans When They're Drunk

Caesar: He doesn't get drunk, and no one encourages him to. They don't know what he's like drunk, and they don't want to know

Antony: Is a really happy drunk. Cuddles with everyone and impulsively buys all kinds of nonsense. When he wakes up in the morning he's surrounded by his drunk purchases but has no idea who drained his bank account.

Brutus: Sobs hysterically, an absolute wreck. Tells you his whole life story and you'll find him throwing up in the bathroom later, Cassius holding his hair back while he has to listen to him cry about his past for the millionth time.

Octavian: Starts giving speeches to everyone while standing on the table. He thinks they're motivational, but they're complete gibberish.

Cassius: A bold, angry drunk. Will fight anyone and can make literally anything into a weapon.

Pompey: Calls everybody beautiful and suddenly is under the impression that he can sing and dance.

I’m a bit disappointed I missed this festival.

Antinous Festival Of The Nile Inundation Remix Image By Honorthegods.

Antinous Festival of the Nile Inundation remix image by honorthegods.

Today, July 25, the modern cult of Antinous celebrates the festival of the Inundation of the Nile. The annual flooding of the Nile had failed in the two years preceding the death of Antinous. Famine was a threat to northern Europe, Africa, and the Near East, regions which relied on imports of grain from Egypt. The year following Antinous’ death, the inundation of the Nile was restored and even exceeded prior levels, an occurrence believed by some at the time to have been a miracle brought about by the recently deified Antinous.

Hail to you, O Nile! Hail, holy waters of life!  Mysterious is your issuing forth from the darkness, on this day whereon it is celebrated!

Hail to you, O Hapi! You bring water to the fields which Ra created! By your command, the land is fertile! Food is abundant, and the people are strong!

Hail, Antinous, deified by the Nile!  You hear the prayers of all those who call out to you, and relieve the afflictions of those in need!
