"Wolpertinger Family Leporidae Volaticus ramusalis
Reddish hue, with grey-blue primary feathers and ruddy patches on its legs and back.
Native to the eastern European Alps, these creatures are shy and like small colonies in rocky burrows. Males - also known as "bucks" - grow antlers after the second year.
Young are born sightless and helpless underground, where they are raised by the colony until maturity; a matter of weeks. Females and young greatly resemble their closest relative, the Skvader (Volaticus suecia) while males seem akin to the Jackalope (Volaticus americanus) of the American Rocky Mountains. All Volaticus spp. seem to prefer altitude."
"Antlers: genus Volaticus V. ramusalis "Wolpertinger" V. americanus "Jackalope" V. miraji "Al-miraj" V. raspel "Rasselbuck" V. suecia "Skvader" "
Oh I love making up fake species profiles. Blame my proclivity for birding, I suppose. All of these are 'real' folklore rabbits from around the world. Credit for the Wolpertinger references goes to @meklarian's lovely desert cottontail photography, which was both the basis and inspiration for these!
I made a fancy, official new cover for my web comic, Slices of Gremlin! (You can find it here on my Tumblr, on Instagram, or subscribe to it weekly on Webtoon!) To celebrate, I thought that I would release the new cover into the world with a fun DTIYS challenge. I've never hosted a DTIYS, but I have wanted to for a while! The graphic was made for Instagram in mind, but with Tumblr entries I will reblog them instead of share them to a story. ππ
What are your three favorite things about Vincent and Witherspoon as individual characters? There are lots of things I love about them, but I want to hear from you as the creator!
Awww, thank you so much for the ask, that's so kind of you girl!! C: That's a really nice question, and I really appreciate being able to ramble a bit ehehe!!
For Vincent, I would say, A) as someone who has grown up Southern, it meant a lot to me to create a Southern character who was portrayed in a positive light. He's unabashedly Southern but he's not a stereotype of it, if that makes any sense. He IS a bit silly, but he's also very intelligent and capable! It feels very comforting to me to have a character with a Southern drawl.
B), Vincent is genuinely kind. He really and truly wants the best for everyone around him, even if they call themselves his enemy, and it's zero to none for him to actually hold a grudge against anyone. He's not perfect, and has his own flaws, but he hasn't let the often very cynical nature of the world affect him to the point of allowing him to grow bitter, even though he's had a lot of chances for this to happen.
He's truly a safe person to be around.
C), I can't really go into it too much because it's spoiler-y in nature, but in-story he is associated heavily with trippy dream settings where reality is altered in uneasy ways, where liminal spaces and crazy aesthetics come into play. This is one thing that I'm REALLY looking forward to showing visually! It'll get very weird!
For Witherspoon, A) It's a bit simple, but it genuinely makes me happy that he is based on Bluejays. :) They are my favorite bird, and honestly it just makes me happy to see them.
B), Witherspoon is someone who thinks that he is a very bad person, and he instinctively wonders quite often why anyone would want to be around him. He's a loner by nature, but this added causes him to isolate himself and sometimes even hate himself. Little does he know, though, he is SO loved, and he is loved for exactly who he's always been. He's the most loved person in the whole story, and he has always deserved to be loved.
C), It may be a bit silly, but despite the fact that he is a vigilante/hitman in profession, I also imagine him as a very safe presence. He truly tries his best to make the right judgment calls, and he is honest to his core. Witherspoon would be very hard-pressed to ever lie or show dishonesty about anything, even to his own detriment -- (which happens). Even if he's dealing with those he doesn't like/trust, he absolutely refuses to cheat anyone. If he has sworn an oath to you, he'll never break it.
Here's something a little different than usual! I wanted to play around with some different designs, just for fun. I hope you enjoyed this week's installment of 'Slices of Gremlin'! I am going to continue updating every Tuesday, and if you would like to support the comic and get early access, you can sign up to be a member of the 'Little Creature Club' on Ko-Fi!
You really need to make non-tragic past for your characters, significant people and events that impacted their lives, non-dramatic mundane moments that shaped them, happy memories, bitter memories, embarrassing memories.
Like yes the space princess lost her whole civilization, but did she have friends before that? Favorite place? Does she miss the sound of her favorite music she use to listen to?
most important part of the writing process actually is when you loop a single song on max volume and stare at the word document and imagine the characters doing things for 14 hours. this is known as getting in the zone
I'm watching through Sonic Prime for the first time, and I love him, oogh ;O; I have a soft spot for the robot characters in Sonic, strangely enough, lol -- I also love Metal Sonic and Omega.
he thinks he's sooooo cute
I am slurping up this very good lore!! πππ
Would Baz, Toko and Gerdie prank each other for April Fool's day?? π
That's a great question! Unfortunately, it's one not so easily answered due to differences in how holidays are recognized in the Far From Home universe. Hundreds of alien races exist within FFH, each of which is associated with at least one culture and planet, though life is never quite that simple. So, to give an example, the U.S. federal government recognizes 11 holidays per year. Now multiply that by 195 countries on planet Earth - that gives Earth 2,145 different holidays in total (if we ignore the fact that some holidays overlap between countries). Sure, that's a bit of an overestimation, but if every single alien race demanded to celebrate 2,145 holidays over the course of a standard intergalactic year, practically every day would be considered a holiday. As a result, the Intergalactic Government only recognizes a select few generalized holidays during a standard intergalactic year, but individual cultures are welcome to celebrate specific holidays on their planets as usual. The system is flawed and gets a lot of flack (and rightly so), considering space government just doesn't want people taking days off of work unexpectedly and messing with the flow of trade and commerce. This means that many 'lesser' holidays (ie. ones that aren't federally recognized, such as April Fool's Day) remain generally unknown to most folks out in space, and having origins in wildly different cultures means that similarities between holidays are uncommon. So it's possible that the FFH crew wouldn't even be familiar with a holiday like April Fool's Day, if it happened to exist in that universe. But if we were to shove all that worldbuilding aside and, for the sake of this question, consider what might happen if the crew recognized April Fool's Day as a holiday? Theyβd absolutely prank each other.
I feel like Gerdie would be the most into it, starting with harmless pranks and introducing Toko to the concept, before they both start setting little traps for each other! And contrary to what you might think, Baz would participate too - though heβd be very subtle and methodical about it. Gotta put all those smuggling skills to good use, right? Baz and Gerdie would definitely be the best at sniffing out suspicious activity before a prank comes to fruition, whereas Toko (being so young) would fall for pranks all the time. But sheβd love the shenanigans!
It's the duty of a chivalrous knight to protect the fair princess that he loves, isn't it? πΉ
