I Can’t Believe I Went Through All Of Season 2 Assuming Nina Was The Stand-in For Crowley When You

I can’t believe I went through all of Season 2 assuming Nina was the stand-in for Crowley when you actually pay attention it’s so CLEAR that she’s Aziraphale. I was tricked by her spiky, sarcastic, cynical outer shell and lulled into a false sense of security by Maggie’s bubbly optimism and wholesome goodness, because on the surface they reflect the ineffable husbands perfectly, in their personalities, their aesthetics, even many of their actions and morals. but not, and this is the real key, when it comes to their “relationship”. but those first impressions really had me damn fooled.

I missed the blatantness of Nina’s “we’re just friends. actually we’re not friends. we barely know each other.” the same thing Aziraphale said in season 1. the way he still struggles to quantify their friendship when Nina asks. Nina’s sarcasm when Crowley asks about rain and awnings because it worked for him (we all know it LMAO). hell, that whole convo the girls have in the rain is so AziraCrow (“I know. I’m not your type” “…You have no idea” hits so much harder the second time, help meeeee.) “Lindsay” maybe being symbolic of Heaven and Aziraphale’s toxic relationship with them and their abuse? (the handwritten text messages in red pen make me think of angry notes on paperwork, anyone else?) because Crowley has never actually cared about what Hell thinks of him, just not getting into trouble (or him or Aziraphale getting hurt). Maggie is always chasing Nina. NINA NEVER GOES IN THE RECORD STORE. Just like Crowley always goes to the bookstore, to Aziraphale, Zira NEVER WENT TO THE FLAT (apart from The Swap but that doesn’t count imo). Crowley has always chased Zira, not the other way around. Always there to rescue him, always going to him for company, always relying on their shared connection, always US. OUR SIDE. All through season one, he comes to Zira every time to work together, never trying to work alongside Hell in any way that isn’t to save their skins or Earth, while Zira hides things from Crowley because he STILL thinks Heaven is ultimately good and will do the right thing if he can just show them. fix it from the inside.

Maggie working up the courage to finally say something, to put herself out there, while Nina is utterly oblivious and then when she does realise Maggie has feelings, becoming standoffish, putting up that barrier, fighting it, denying it, ITS SO CROWLEY AND AZIRAPHALE IN THAT ORDER. the way I was fooled into thinking Nina’s trust issues are Crowley because he does have trust issues ofc he does BUT Crowley has ALWAYS TRUSTED AZIRAPHALE. has always relied on him. has always been hurt when Aziraphale doesn’t immediately reciprocate the way he expects (the holy water request, the bandstand, the “off in the stars” etc). he’s always the one putting himself forward. Aziraphale has always been the one to second guess everything, to fight their connection, their similarities, their friendship. the girls really made me think it was going to be okay when they sat Crowley down, even as my inner sirens were going haywire about Metatron interfering, they were telling Crowley he just needs to open up and it’ll all work out BUT HE’S ALREADY AT THAT POINT. he may not say it, and by gosh is that part of their damn problem, but he’s always SHOWN IT. he’s not Nina who needs time to heal and recover from her broken trust, he’s always been Maggie believing it doesn’t matter, they’ll end up together in the end anyway AND I WALKED RIGHT INTO THE TRAP THAT THIS MEANT THEY WERE GOING TO BE OKAYYYYYYYYYYY

aziraphale always rejects crowley first, it’s part of their dance, part of their routine. crowley suggests the arrangement as neither doing anything, aziraphale rejects it, crowley reframes it as helping each other, aziraphale agrees. crowley asks for holy water, aziraphale rejects him, crowley reframes as dangerous for him, aziraphale agrees. crowley suggests they raise the antichrist together, aziraphale rejects it, crowley reframes it as thwarting evil, aziraphale agrees.

crowley suggests they run away together, aziraphale rejects it. crowley reframes it - hell knows it was me! and aziraphale rejects it again.

crowley had every reason to believe that aziraphale was going to give in eventually. that’s the dance. i’m sorry, whatever i said, i didn’t mean it. now get in the car. he’s panicked, but he is still trying to complete the dance. crowley might have expected the bandstand break-up as par for the course, but crowley doesn’t really understand that aziraphale is really, actually rejecting him until he tries a second time, because he’s always had to try a second time. but aziraphale says no. maybe for the first time ever, aziraphale gets to the end of the dance, and he still says no. you can see crowley finally realize it too:

he looks like he’s been shot. i suppose in some way he has.

some underrated things/scenes or things people forget

so i was reading carry on for the 83728181th time and came across a bunch of extremely underrated scenes or things people forget.

- ebb literally thought simon and baz were dating, or at the most, friends.

- penny wears actual capes because she says it make her feel like stevie nicks

- baz tried to wank away his feelings for simon over their fifth year summer

- lucy is a ghost during the book, because she states in one of her characters that she was caught between life and full death

- the library scene

- baz trusted simon enough to let him eat in front of him.

- simon has speech issues

- simon is queer. his sexuality was never stated during the book, he just said that he thinks he might be gay, but his therapist said he doesn’t even need to think about it.

- the epilouge scene

- penny and baz made simon carry up all the furniture into simon and penny’s apartment despite simon being the one with no magic

- pumpkin mocha breeve

- simon thinks he killed the mage, but it wasn’t his or penny’s fault, he said “stop it, stop hurting me” and the magic deemed it the only way or the mage to stop hurting him

- penny’s sister stayed up until 4am in christmas eve

- some idiot named marcus from the old families got trapped in fucking dumbwaiter in their fourth year

- penny is number 2. on simon’s ‘what i miss most about watford’ list

- they do their own laundry and dishes at watford.

- the floor between the second and third floor, the ‘echo’ floor, that imitates everything that happens on the floor above, a day later.

- “i know it’s distasteful, but imagine—you’re a pixie, and you have a daughter, you name her trixie. trixie the pixie.” … “ thats like a fairy named mary,” “or a vampire named gampire.”

- agatha though that lucy salisbury looked like baby spice

- this book has a fucking lesbian pixie

- simon thinks baz looks like gangster when he slicks his hair back

- simon sleeps with the windows open all year round

Can you imagine how proud Gerard must be? He was a drug addict and an alcoholic for years. He was suicidal and he thought he was never going to make it past 25. But now it’s his 40th birthday, he has an amazing wife and a cute daughter, he’s finally accomplishing his dreams as a comic book writer and he’s very happy. He made it and he inspires thousands of people every day, because if he can do it, so can we.

With that being said, let’s all wish this wonderful man a happy birthday and stop judging him for not looking like his 27 year old self.
