Endo and Takiishi really are kings of miscommunication huh,,.
Despite Endo saying that the only person in Takiishi's world other than Takiishi himself is Umemiya, I don't think that's true. He either is allowed already in, or has the potential to be, and he himself is fucking it up.
Before I attempt to put the mess that they are into words, I want to mention that @finnitesimal's post about Endo & Takiishi wrapping back around to "a fight is a conversation" was something that set a lot of these thoughts into motion!! ( and a lot of this is based on that post as well, aka you should probably look at it first., )
Thanks dude !! You don't know me but you've made me a lot more insane than I already was!!
First thing I want to point out !! When we get Takiishi's POV on how he views other people, he includes both Umemiya and Endo. Endo isn't excluded from it, Takiishi recognizes him as different from the others.
He doesn't directly say he likes or cares for Endo, but still considers Endo different from the others.
I think it's also important how quickly he calls Endo by name after Umemiya tells him the "trick to being with people".
This moment is so important to their relationship. The way Endo says he'll bring Takiishi interesting people, and Takiishi following it up with calling out his name.., it really cements the idea of Endo being allowed in "Takiishi's world" to me.
I also think that one of the main reasons Endo doesn't get recognized and looked at in the way he wishes for, is the fact that he's too focused on pleasing Takiishi, on bringing him anything and everything he wants, going along with his wants and needs, and rarely ever truly going against him.
And when I say he brings Takiishi anything and everything he wants, I mean it, he orchestrated an entire war with all of Furin just to let Takiishi have as much fun as he's ever wanted.
And what Takiishi wants, and truly enjoys, is a fight with someone who won't go down so easily. He says so in his fight with Umemiya.
And even if they're both on a whole other level from the others, I do think that Endo (and Sakura) are following close behind. And I especially believe that Endo could entertain Takiishi, that he could put up a good fight against him.
He's considered a legend for a reason. He won against Tsubaki, Nakamura and Suzuri fairly easily, and we also know that he has never fought Umemiya, so we don't know how close he truly is to catching up with the two. Sakura did beat him in the end, but Sakura is likely going to rise to Umemiya's level eventually, so that doesn't really go against the possibility of him fighting Takiishi and holding his own. Which he absolutely should do. They need to fight.
Crazy as it is to say, beating the fuck out of each other would be really beneficial for their relationship.,
What a sweet and powerful gesture. It's frustrating when people say "what do you expect them to do? they're entertainers not activists!" look at how simple this gesture of solidarity is and how resonant it is! This is wonderful.

comics as an art form make me insane. they’re so difficult to do well. there’s so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge that’s only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readers’ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they won’t follow it. comic time isn’t linear. if the order of events isn’t crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesn’t take it seriously
People act like genocide is just evil men committing open atrocities and they forget that most of genocide is someone just like them keeping quiet because the results of the genocide are keeping them comfortable.
AAAAAAAAA IT'S HIM
HE HAS A LITTLE TURTLE FRIEND
Hi I need to ramble about dabihawks again because what do you mean horikoshi created the perfect characters for the "two sides of the same coin" plot but never used it? What do you mean he created two characters that could've been heros together or villains together but chose the universe where they're apart? What do you mean he created two characters that could've understood each other so deeply but never made them share their worries together? Never make them talk seriously? Never make them realize that they could've helped each other?
Yes dabihawks is toxic but you wanna know why? (Partly) because toxicity is the only thing they've ever known. Their family, their growing up environment, the people they interacted with, their ideals, their opinions, the society: everything in their lives is toxic. So of course it's hard for them to be healthy for each other since they can't even be healthy for themselves.
However, even if a lot of people are saying that they represent the "we make each other worse" trope, I don't really agree (although I respect every opinions don't get me wrong). I feel like if they talked seriously they could've created something new. Both relating on how shitty their fathers were, on the abuse, on the society's marginalization they went through (because yes, Hawks is marginalized and not integrated, try me). Both talked about their dreams of becoming heroes but failing because touya became a villain and keigo became a soldier. Both relating on how difficult it is to express emotions when you lived all your life with people wanting to dictate your every moves and dreams (the commission forcing hawks to exist as they want while endeavor forcing his dream on dabi, but the reverse is also true). They lost trust in everything but could've helped each other to trust again.
They could've been the anchor for each other if horikoshi actually didn't throw their potential away (love you hori but you fucked up on that one). They could've help each other because even though dabi is obssessive he would've listen to someone who when through the same atrocities as him, just like the only people he was able to bound with were the League.
They could've help each other because hawks would've realise that his true will as a hero is not to follow the HSPC but save little children that just wanted to be accepted. Dabi could've help Hawks to get away from the commission while Hawks would've help dabi reconsider his revenge on his family (not endeavor though, but the rest of his family). Dabi would've understand that great heros are doing what they can, but in the current society it's just not enough. And they both would've understand that bad people don't fester the society, the society fester the people.
They could've been the comfort place they were both seeking. They could've understand each other. They might even have brought keigo and touya back.
What a waste.
