daily reminder to make your stoic whumpee hide their injury/sickness until they physically can’t :)
oh and make sure to include some fever-induced vulnerability that they would normally never show because of whumper for unknown reasons…
Whump prompts I can’t get enough of:
1. The shifty and embarrassed look in a stoic leader’s eyes as they finally are forced to reveal an injury to their friends, reluctantly allowing themselves to be treated for the first time. The awkwardness as they strip, and/or lay down to be examined. The subtle fighting to maintain some choice or control ( would rather sit up, “I can do that myself thanks”) and so on.
2. The limp warmth of a Whumpee’s sleeping body as they are treated in the middle of the night. The change in their breathing as the covers are gently pulled back. The clumsiness of their movements as they flit in and out of sleep, sudden gasps or flinching as their wounds are tended. The caretaker’s whispers of comfort, hushing them back to sleep.
3. Whumpee lashing out in sudden rage at some petty action of another, before collapsing and breaking down in sobs. Everyone standing around awkwardly in shock, before caretaker goes in to grab whumpee in a crushing embrace, trying to calm their shaking.
4. Stoic whumpee being humiliated by Whumper. Orders like: ‘strip’, ‘face the wall’, ‘kneel’, ‘down on your hands and knees’, etc etc.
5. Slightly delusional whumpee being tied/held down for some potentially lifesaving procedure and quietly begging caretaker to stop, please please stop. Then more loudly, desperately, until they are crying out and fighting in a panic. Caretaker meanwhile is (1)staring at them in stoic silence while their heart is wrung with pity, or (2) they are quietly reassuring them, telling them it’s going to be alright.
Feel free to use as you like.
Fantasy drugs 👀
-A stimulant that enhances every sensation. Every touch, no matter how gentle, feel like sandpaper on your skin. What would be mild pain becomes agony, pleasure becomes overwhelming to the point of pain
-Ever heard of locked in syndrome? Make it a drug. The body is paralyzed, unable to move. But every sensation remains, and the mind? The mind is fully aware. Whumpee hears, sees and feels everything. They're all too aware, and they will remember. Unwanted touches, excruciating pain, they're aware of it all, completely, totally helpless. They can't even scream.
-a drug that temporarily mutes all your senses. You're still very much aware, you're fully conscious, and it differs from locked-in drug in that you're not paralysed. You're just deafened, blinded, you can't smell or taste or feel anything. You won't even feel the pain until it wears off. It probably wears of gradually too - maybe you smell the blood before anything else. Maybe you see the horrific wounds before you feel them. Or hear cruel taunts as they tell you what they've done to you before you can see or feel it for yourself.
-Enthralling drug. With a mix of whumpers DNA, they render you an empty shell, existing only to serve them. You take orders only from Whumper, who has to order you to sleep, eat, do ANYTHING. You feel nothing. You're aware of nothing. You're barely even alive. It'll wear off... eventually. Better hope Whumper doesn't find a way to make it permanent.
Feel free to add on with more ideas
A whumpee who won’t stop fighting until they physically can’t anymore. A whumpee who will kick, bite, claw, pinch- anything they can manage in their current state or position. A whumpee who finally loses their will to fight when the hopelessness sets in, and they give up- only to immediately be filled with revulsion and self loathing. A whumpee who doesn’t listen when they’re told that they did everything they could. When they’re told anyone would have done what they did. When they’re told it’s okay.
Because it’s not. They said they would never give up. But they did. And now they’re sure they deserve what ever comes after.
Because you can’t lose as long as you keep fighting.
…And whumpee lost.
whumpee surrendering themselves to something they don't want to do, something they know will hurt them, because there is no other alternative. perhaps it's their only way out of a sticky situation. perhaps the threat of whumper punishing them is more than enough to make them comply. either way, they have to fight against their own instincts, their own desires, their own dignity, in order to give themselves up to the torment. it's like a swine walking into a slaughterhouse; a death march.
bonus if whumpee is usually very defiant and self-assured, even if the face of danger. what possibly could've broken their spirit bad enough to make them behave like this?
"Don't touch me." + Caretaker?
"I'm not. I'm not touching you. I'm not even close."
"I have to."
"It's just me, sweetheart, you're safe with me."
"I won't, I just need to see that wound. No touching, I promise."
"You'll bleed out if I don't."
I really like the trope where the whumpee is emotionally exhausted from something and then slowly and silently… rests their forehead against the caretaker’s chest. Maybe they’ll cry, maybe they’ll stay quiet, maybe they’ll hug it out. But the moment where whumpee shows that small amount of vulnerability and trust towards caretaker is beautiful to me.
whump tropes in everything i write pt. 2:
• that pause and dizzy sway A does after a fight/ordeal/magic overuse. B grabs a fistful of A’s shirt to steady them
• running a character into the ground: every time they get a second to rest, another fight happens/they’re on the run again/they’re attacked. bonus points if they’re in the same outfit the whole time and it progressively gets bloodier, more stained and ripped—makes that final collapse sooo good
• A is on the verge of completely losing it, shaking hands/frantic pacing, whether that’s bc anxiety/the horrors™️/the plot etc. B is the only person who can ground them. Love a good forced hug that A resists but B’s stronger and it turns into B guiding A to the floor as A melts into them
• A hiding an illness/injury right up until they literally tip over and give B the fright of their life
• a character coughing up blood and still pushing thru
• obligatory homoerotic wound cleaning: A and B both covered in A’s blood. lots of shushing. frantic soothing. very handsy. bonus points if B is inexperienced and freaking the f out while A is delirious & breathlessly trying to comfort them
Caretaker held A’s hand back at they were about to shake whumpee awake.
“Let them rest,” Caretaker whispered, not even looking up at A. They just continued to softly gaze at whumpee’s sleeping form, swaddled up in blankets.
A furrowed their eyebrows and shook their head, “but we need whumpee right now—”
“And whumpee needs rest right now. You can wake whumpee up later. But for now? Let them sleep,” Caretaker cut A off, their voice slightly firmer. They then looked up at A with an unreadable expression on their face, “I’m sure you guys can handle a day or two without whumpee.”
A didn’t respond to Caretaker, they just stared down at them with an annoyed expression before letting out a scoff and walking out of the room. Caretaker sighed and looked back down at whumpee’s sleeping form, carefully brushed some hair out of their face.
“Some days I really do wonder how you manage all this…” Caretaker murmured, their expression growing concerned.
One day or another, caretaker is most certainly going to have a…talk with the others about how reliant they are on Whumpee.
(because Reddit is down and I’m chronically online)
Hearing the whumpee’s screams over the radio as they’re captured, the rest of the team frozen in horror.
• Patch job in the middle of the battlefield, someone pressing down on a wound with their bare hands, whispering, “Stay with me, okay? Just stay.”
• Post-mission debrief, but the whumpee is barely holding it together, swaying on their feet as the adrenaline wears off.
• The whumpee refusing pain meds because they need to “stay sharp,” only to pass out mid-conversation.
• “I don’t leave people behind,” they growl, limping and bleeding but refusing to abandon the unconscious teammate over their shoulder.
• Waking up in a field hospital, disoriented and panicked, pulling out the IV before being restrained by a firm but gentle voice.
• “We’re not going to make it.” “Yes, we are.” Cue one of them doing something reckless to ensure the other gets out alive.
• Cold, soaked to the bone, huddled in a ruined building during a downpour, one of them feverish while the other desperately tries to keep them awake.
• Hiding an injury to avoid being benched, only for it to get worse at the worst possible moment.
• “You don’t understand—I can’t go back. I can’t be discharged.”
• A high-ranking officer demanding a mission debrief while the whumpee is barely conscious, words slurring, bleeding through their uniform.
• A medic struggling to save the whumpee in the back of a jolting vehicle, yelling for the driver to go faster.
• Post-rescue, sitting by the whumpee’s bedside, counting every beep of the heart monitor like a prayer.
Content: mention of rape, torture, noncon touch
Eye contact with whumper just following them across the room
Whumper going to touch them and they just lean out of the way as far as they can
Whumper touches them anyway. "Ew." Whumpee growls.
A solid sense of boundaries that slowly wears away, until finally, they just close their eyes, waiting for it to be over
Or, glaring at the wall when whumper touches them
Not having the same "scream" response to pain. Instead maybe they have something more animalistic, like whines or broken moans, or even gagging sounds
Bonus--whumper makes fun of them for this, cause they were hoping for some better screams out of them
A lack of fear turning very quickly into depression. (whumpee accepts their situation? They're going to quickly see how hopeless it is, too.)
Calm bargaining. "I'll kiss your feet." "No." "...I'll suck your dick." "Haha, nice try." *Exasperated sigh* "really? You said I was really good."
Never giving the information they're being tortured for, but compromising literally anything else because they are desperate, they're just also stubborn as hell
Whumper getting curious because of their silence and trying to get them to talk about themselves or their feelings. Locking them in a room and saying they won't leave until they talk.
"we'll play a game. You tell me one thing about yourself, and I'll give you one pretzel for each thing." *Starving whumpee rubs their face and sighs* "Fine. ...My middle name starts with N."
Discordant reactions--Whumpee just miserably laughing at how crazy evil whumper is. Breaking by going defiant. or by just being annoying (picking at whumper's sleeve, singing etc)
Maybe they just feel more depressed than anxious/desperate. Whumper trying to draw out their other feelings gets a chuckle. "That's very nice. I don't care."
Stoic works really well with certain traits--honest, loyal, morose, uncertain, thoughtful, autistic
Whumpee who is recovering after the whumpTM, but it's not going great. They're so frustrated with themselves, with their caretakers, just with everything. Everyone is so soft and understanding and it bothers them and they want to scream, but they know they should be grateful.
Until Caretaker comes along. Caretaker isn't 'nice' like the others, they don't take bullshit. They're good for Whumpee, but they don't baby them. They treat them like an adult with anatomy, and it's so refreshing for Whumpee.
"You want to stay up, fine. But you will tell me when you can't anymore, because if I have to drag you off the floor we're both in trouble. Understand?"
"Stop whining. What do you need?" (And then they get or do whatever it is without issues or judgement.)
"Want to tell me why you're doing worse today?" -- "No..." -- "Okay."
"Where does it hurt?" -- "It doesn-" -- "Don't give me that, I can see it hurts. Now tell me where."
Caretaker trusts Whumpee to know what they need, and lets them know again and again they won't take this nonsense of hiding their pain. They're practical, and kind, and Whumpee needed that.
Thinking about forced surgeries rn...
Whumpee strapped down on an operating table, dry heaving from the sheer terror, eyes wide open. No anaesthesia whatsoever, the feeling of cold metal against flesh. Screams, thrashing, loud gasps with each incision made.
Or the horror of being put under by complete strangers, in an unfamiliar place. He knows it's useless to fight it. Labored breaths before eventually surrendering to the drugs, despite his brain screaming at him not to.
Or waking up in an ice bath with stitches on his abdomen. Confused and hazy, feeling nothing but a horrible emptiness. The throbbing pain and the horrible realisation setting in as he slowly comes to.
So so so many options.... Very bad things ..
“Stop acting like a dog, I know you’re a human in there somewhere.”
The whumpee leaving their apology in a note before they go on The Mission they’ll likely not come back from.
The caretaker apologizes to the whumpee as they’re bleeding out in their arms.
Versus: the whumpee desperately trying to apologise as they bleed out in the caretakers arms. Bonus points if they’re spitting blood.
The caretaker waits anxiously over the unconscious whumpee to wake up so they can apologise. The whumpee barely opens their eyes before the caretaker is blurting out “I’m sorry.”
The whumpee barely opens their eyes before they say “I’m sorry”
Better still: the whumpee and caretaker apologizing at the same time, as soon as they see each other.
The apology coming before a character betrays another.
The apology coming AFTER the character goes through with the betrayal in order to save the team.
And for comfort: The whumpee not buying the apologies as the caretaker cleans their wounds, but they're easily appeased by the promise of dinner.
Caretaker or team member immediately hugging and latching onto Whumpee once they’ve been rescued or returned home.
Whumpee groaning or hissing at the pain from contact. Caretaker apologizing profusely, hurrying to let go. But Whumpee doesn’t budge, just holds on tighter. Tucking their face into Caretaker’s neck, reminded of the reason they endured their torture.
TW: GORE, SELF HARM
Don't worry, I'm doing better now!
When a character who normally has a silver tongue and a quick wit is speechless.
When an expressive character who wears their heart on their sleeve goes still, face blank.
When a character who is quick to solve problems with their fists drops their hands to their side, frozen.
Just the sudden absence of something that is always there, in both the good and the bad.
Gone in an instant.
*Kicks down the door* YOU KNOW WHUMPY TROPES I LOVE SO MUCH BUT BARELY EVER SEE?
MAGIC FATIGUE/EXHAUSTION/OVERUSE.
Give me those sweet side effects of overusing magic:
Getting lightheaded and weak, struggling to stand let alone keep fighting
"Are you ok?" "Yeah I'm fine. *immediately faceplants because their legs can't support their weight anymore*"
F a i n t i n g
Physical injuries like burns, broken bones, etc
The risk of permanent damage either physically or mentally
Can I get uuuuhhhhh "loses a sense either temporarily or permanently depending on the severity of the overuse"?
Stopping their heart (cue the team scrambling to drag their dumbass friend back from death)
THERE'S SO MUCH YOU CAN DO AND I SO RARELY SEE IT.
Bramblestar wip using my new ballpoint pen!
I just need a character who's so exhausted/injured and so relieved to see a loved one and they go in for a hug and just crumple against the other person, passing out in their arms, that would fix me
When the caretaker goes to lay the semiconscious whumpee down and they realize they're gripping the front of the caretaker's shirt with bloodied fingers, desperate for comfort
I am thinking about a character coming home late. I am thinking about their friends being worried, relieved beyond belief to see them again (because the last time they disappeared…it was bad). The character doesn’t want to talk about where they’ve been, and that’s fine, but their friends just want to know they’re not hurt -
And at that the character snaps at them, violently pushing them away and running to hide in the nearest room with locking door. They’re fine, they just need space - because they are hurt (it’s bad) but they don’t want to worry their friends, they want to be able to take care of themself.
(It wasn’t supposed to happen again.)
"you've gone too far this time," caretaker says, holding whumpee's body against their chest. "I can't fix them"
The whumpee was arrogant and far too confident for their own good, believing themselves to be practically unstoppable, until they crossed the whumper. The whumper had no trouble breaking the whumpee down, making escape a far away dream and giving them more scars than the whumpee could event count. All the while the whumper treated torturing the whumpee like business as usual, after all, they just wanted to see if the whumpee was all talk- and they were.
Drawing myself as a cat is my new therapy<3
hear me out, defiant turned compliant whumpee.
whumpee, who used to fight and bite and scream, turned docile after being taught and trained and tamed.
whumpee, who used to challenge whumper for more pain, huddling in the far corner; too afraid to make eye contact.
whumpee, who used to hold their head up high, flinched at the faintest noise and jumped when someone slightly touches them.
my favorite kind of whumpee for real.
Defiant Whumpee who has been put in a stress position by Whumper, and just left alone for a while. When Whumper returns, they release Whumpee and watch them crumple to the ground.
Whumpee, who normally fights Whumper at any chance they get, lies still, their breath raspy and gaze far away as they try to work through the pain.
Whumper just watches with a slight smile. This is the first time Whumpee is completely unrestrained, and they're not even trying to escape.
Progress.
