Take a closer look at the Coronation State Portraits of King Charles III and Queen Camilla...
Commissioned to mark Their Majesties' Coronation in 2023, the portraits were unveiled by The King and Queen at the National Gallery earlier today.
The portraits, which will form part of the Royal Collection, were painted by two different artists personally selected by Their Majesties. His Majesty chose to be painted by Peter Kuhfeld and Queen Camilla selected Paul S. Benney.

‘I remember lines of unknown people linking arms and walking down Whitehall, all of us just swept along on a tide of happiness and relief.’
On this day in 1945, Queen Elizabeth II (then Princess Elizabeth) pulled down her uniform cap and merged incognito into the crowds in central London to experience VE Day as one of tens of thousands of jubilant citizens celebrating the end of the Second World War. More than thirty years later, she recorded her memories for a unique BBC Broadcast. -

This week, we celebrated the indomitable spirit of the extraordinary Second World War generation. We will never forget.

“The darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion.”
This evening, The King and Queen hosted a reception in recognition of the incredible work that community-based organisations do to support those living with cancer, and to raise awareness of preventative actions people can take to avoid cancer.
Accompanied by The Duchess of Gloucester, Their Majesties spent time with representatives from their patronages, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Maggie's Centres, and learnt more about the practical work delivered by other initiatives, such as:
💃 Move Dance Feel, which unites women affected by cancer through dance;
🌈 Rainbow Boxes, which offers practical items as people start cancer treatment;
💆 …and Wigs For Heroes, which supports people facing cancer related hair loss.
Amongst guests were also champions of cancer charities and those living with cancer, including Adele Roberts; Amy Dowden; Ashley Cain; Maren Sheldon, CoppaFeel! Co-Founder and twin sister of the late Kris Hallenga; and Alistair and Heather James, parents of the late Dame Deborah James. Thank you for all that you do.
On the second anniversary of The Coronation of 6th May 2023, two commissioned Coronation
State Portraits, of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, have been unveiled by Their Majesties in the Central Hall at the National Gallery.
The portraits, which will form part of the Royal Collection, were painted by two different artists personally selected by The King and Queen. His Majesty chose to be painted by Peter Kuhfeld and Queen Camilla selected Paul S. Benney.
Both artists are known to The King and Queen already, having previously contributed to other royal commissions. These portraits will join an important tradition of Coronation State Portraits dating back many centuries.
The new portraits will be on display in the Central Hall at the National Gallery, of which The King is Royal Patron, from Tuesday 6th May until Thursday 5th June. They will then move to their permanent home in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. They can be seen there as part of a visit during the Summer Opening of the State Rooms (10th July – 28th September 2025).
