geckos AU : Sephiroth + Genesis + Angeal (I said I would do it, didn't I?)

got sick with the flu last week so I designed AGS as side characters for Rhaco: Geckos of New Caledonia.

Introducing the Dead (Bird) Poets' Club!

Genos (Satanic Leaf-tailed gecko) is the club's self-declared leader, as he is also its founder. He's a theater kid and came up with the idea of carrying around bird wings strung up like costumes to perform roles from his favorite plays (mostly Leafless).

Seflop (Giant Leaf-tailed gecko) is the club's de facto leader on account of his actual bird-killing track record. At first this was accidental, but now he has a problem and they can’t make him stop... what's his deal with property damage all of a sudden? The hair is a cape of egret feathers. They're not natural... we think.

Anjil (Frilled Leaf-tailed gecko) was roped into his best friends' club and now acts as damage control, carrying the overflow wings from their bird-killing sprees. He is on good terms with Zekk and routinely apologizes for the club's antics. He also doesn't just leave.

I only had time for AGS right now, but as for Cloud and Zack-- they run a joint tailoring shop in the gecko village (feathers, leaves, & fur fashion). Clao does mainly feathers, so he's a constant victim of his wares being raided by the AGS club.

i love how the only hand animated parts in this scene are the eyes.... and yet i spent 4 hours compositing everything else together bc i decided i needed 14 LAYERS of various effects

Wall-E (the character) is a great demonstration of how being curious about the world echoes our level of care for it. And that caring can quite literally course-correct humanity His playful fascination with what humans left behind, his ability to find "new" on a dormant planet of waste refuse-- he continues to care and be amazed by and change things in a world that has not effectively changed for about 700 years. Wall-E commemorates artifacts of life by treasuring them on their own special shelves in his home. He lovingly makes sure The Plant is secured in a way that won't crush it as he's going home. He accidentally runs over his cockroach and worries about it. He tries to make an inactive Eve comfortable at his expense, not knowing when or if she will ever wake up again.

Wall-E has such an impact on Eve and other passengers on the Axiom because he invites them to care about small interactions they took for granted. They make meaningful connections and changes in their own directive because-- simply by being interested by them and what they're doing-- he offers a new perspective of looking at themselves. (Remember when he gives the elevator robot that little wave and it's so taken with that gesture it starts to copy it? It was seen and acknowledged when its role has always been to punch numbers.)

The spark that Wall-E shared with Eve, I think, is not only symbolic of his love for Eve (though it is clear he loves Eve more than anyone). It was that care. It has to be that same care. Because if his little acts of wonder and determination inspired every other character to break from their programming, who's to say it can't overcome a factory reset?

Oh, and "curiosity" and "care" have the same etymological root, apparently

🌟Flight Rising, the dragon petsite into which I pour my conlang hobby. I sell chibi stickers of all breeds chronologically released up to 2023, am in the Light flight, and Aethers are my favorite breeds.

🎧Coldplay! They are my favorite band, I know their discography extensively. My favorite album is X&Y -- though my favorite songs are probably from A Rush of Blood to the Head)

🦉 Guardians of Ga’Hoole… aside from the books being fantastic by their own merit, I have 100%ed the shovelware Wii game to the ends of the earth and back, and I still have the Soren Christmas ornament / Soren and Gylfie Beanie Babies from when I was a kid

💎 Spyro the Dragon-- I was introduced on the ones where Spyro is in a beat-em-up genre, but I love my spunky skateboarding little collectathon dragons. (Legend of Spyro -> Skylanders -> Reignited)
