Our beloved Jon Kent
This is a page from Superman: Son of Kal-El #7:
And so many people are losing their minds and, as always, are missing the point. Most likely, majority of them never even joined any protest.
[Warning: another Superman rant ahead.]
First of all, I think they have forgotten Jon is a 17 year old superhero. He's still a kid, learning about himself, other people, and the planet. He's still learning where he should help, what lines he should or should not cross, etc. He's only starting to be his own person and he has to be careful, especially now that Clark is leaving.
Second, maybe Superman can fix climate change—refreeze ice caps, remove excessive gases in the atmosphere, etc—but that's only a temporary fix!
Third, he is going against capitalism here. To strike for climate means going against contributors of climate change, and who are the major contributors of climate change other than capitalists?
Fourth, to anyone who thinks there are other Earths out there for them anyway, you're definitely a privileged ass hat. The audacity to believe that people from other Earths should accommodate a whole planet of people when they are already facing planetary problems of their own is astounding. Overpopulation is also a thing, people!
Lastly, comics are used as a propaganda. Always have been, from the very start and most likely 'til the end (whenever that may be). It's not always a good thing, but the current Superman run surely is (a good thing) because it tackles issues many people nowadays set aside or consider "old". They really are, but guess what? They are still issues we are facing today! It's easy to forget that there are things we can learn or get reminded of in comics. The characters and stories are fictional, but the issues are real.
I, for one, am enjoying Jon's journey. Yeah, he probably needs to tackle other issues to raise awareness, but as I pointed out, he's just starting to become his own person in this comic run. Obviously, those who said that him coming out isn't brave or bold have never had the need to come out. Good for you, but just because you're not experiencing/never experienced something doesn't mean it doesn't happen to other people. Do not invalidate or downgrade other people's experiences.
