honestly, everytime i see someone say "matakara should've been the mc" in response to them not liking bucchigiri i kind of laugh because like. i really don't think it would've changed your mind. if matakara was actually the mc, people would've gotten mad that he still wants to reconnect with arajin because of the way arajin distances himself from him, or that he gets corrupted, or that zabu is the one who should've stepped in.
i think when people say that bucchigiri sucks because matakara forgave arajin, they fail to understand that arajin was matakara's first friend other than his brother. komao and zabu, while matakara's friends are not as close to him as arajin was (i.e. how they get matakara's favourite gyoza lunch from the convenience store, but arajin teaches matakara how to make gyoza.)
people dismiss arajin because he's an unlikeable, cowardly protagonist, but he and matakara are two sides of the same coin: matakara wants to become strong because he believes he is weak. everyone's left him. he wants to become strong, so he doesn't have to rely on anyone, because he doesn't want to burden them. he pushes the people who care about him away. the biggest hater arajin has IS himself. arajin runs away from his problems because he believes he is weak, so he doesn't try. he thinks he doesn't deserve (in this case) matakara's forgiveness, so he pushes him away because he doesn't believe in himself. he doesn he also doesn't reach out to the people who care about him, and pushes them away. both are flawed people who idealize and project onto others in order to cope: matakara with arajin, as a reminder of his past, and arajin with mahoro, as what an "ideal" and "normal" relationship should be like. and when the illusion is broken, they double down. and, in order to help matakara, arajin has to forgive himself in order to help others. does bucchigiri have flaws when it comes to writing? yes, absolutely. i think there are issues when it comes to pacing, i think certain characters could've been tied into the plot better thematically, and i think scenes could've been added to push the relationships and themes more. however, i want to stress: when you dismiss arajin as a character, you also dismiss matakara as a character as well, and the parallels between them. you ignore what makes their relationship, and in turn, their characters, by extension- the show- so interesting.
Bucchigiri?! has pacing of weekly webcomic with 20-30 pages being smashed into one episode
not bad, not good, definitely unusual, tone shifts all the time, but at least there's so much happening in each episode it's never dull
my honest reaction after watching what I thought for months was Arajin gazing at Matakara and Mahoro just for it to turn out that he was looking at some random girls:
the episode was interesting story-wise as always (aside from arajin having one extra cringe hetero moment not related to mahoro) it fell a bit short for me. maybe because it felt less crazy than the last two eps. Don’t get me wrong, it looked good as always, by no means disappointing- just between shots and the way the story plays out feels more… choppy?? something feels a bit off. I can’t explain it. If there’s something happening behind the scenes I hope gets remedied because I don’t want the production/story to go downhill because it has so much potential
On the positives: we get to see mahoro being an evil girlboss this episode, siguma squad and more delinquent gang lore seeing how differently each gang operates. the welcoming party you can tell they’re all having fun even tho they’re beating each other up
theories/questions for future episodes: does that mean if arajin is going to become marito’s successor will he fight matakara??? or will matakara fight marito or mahoro? it’d be interesting to see mahoro fight someone because she’s clearly capable of force and manipulation in other ways (slaps arajin, screams like a siren to get matakara to go away) Now that he knows the reason why arajin joined siguma I wonder how willing matakara is to fight for him/get him back.
I also wonder how the NG boys will play into the next/future ep. next episode is probably about the war between the gangs because that’s where the episode left off.
i love how she is 0% concerned about her son's wellbeing
we don’t see eye to eye
Pls accept my low effort drawing and I apologise about jabashiri I only know how to draw twinks
Happy Valentine’s Day from everyone’s favorite boyo ✨🩵✨
You see, these screenshots actually foreshadow what's going to happen in the Bucchigiri finale.
Mrs Tomoshibi, wearing CHERRY pajamas (a symbol of virginity), explains to her dumbass virgin son that loving someone means "surrendering your body and soul". This is going to be important to Arajin, who will realize he DOES care about Matakara and not because Mahoro or Shindo told him to ("Have you ever thought about Matakara's feelings?"/"If you don't hurry up, Ichiya will take over Matakara's body!"). To save Matakara, stricken by despair, Arajin will have to surrender his body (to Senya, because a fight with Ichiya is inevitable. His wish will no longer be "losing my virginity") and to surrender his soul (to Matakara. Arajin will have to make himself emotionally vulnerable to connect with Matakara and help him). And then-
It's gonna be another boy who lights a fire within him-
But also Marito- got that early 2000s fit on I'm surprised he doesn't have a fucking Gir backpack to go along with it like damn.
it/they- real nyanbinary madness- hey! i'm mew. i ramble a lot about my interests. welcome to headcanon hell- doodle dump galore- multifandom
