(some) of my thoughts, rambles, and theories- bucchigiri?! ep 6

oh boy... that was a lot. an end to the gang war arc, and soon, the start to a new one. i want to start off by saying the animation was awesome this episode. all the action, emotional moments and small bits of comedy hit where they needed to.

i think it's interesting that it's not just that mahoro absolutely ROASTED akutaro, she also inspired arajin to kick his ass. NOT JUST because he has a crush on her, but because she refused to run, which is what arajin has been doing- it's a wake-up call for him to get some of his shit together.

it's also made blatantly clear that arajin does care about matakara.(the first person he sees when he gains consciousness is him getting fucking beat) hopefully next ep we get to see how their relationship develops from here. obviously they're not quite there yet, and i still think they're going to have a fight at some point- the next conflict focusing on matakara, and arajin showing us how much he's grown.

also, now that akutaro has been defeated, i wonder how ichiya will merge with matakara? how will matakara's conflict, brother, and ichiya and senya's past together play into this? will it be at the expense of matakara himself?

i also don't think this is the end of arajin's development, it's just the start. he'll always be a cringefail loser, but i think what ppl need to realize is that's okay. (his battle cry is still that he wants to lose his virginity, but that's not all there is to him! he beats up akutaro regardless.) he can be a loser and have development. he's not just one or the other, just like the rest of the characters in the show. they can be silly, beat people to a pulp AND have their own emotional moments. the show so far allows all of it, i think that's what makes it so great.

i can't wait to see where the show goes next!!

I've watched through all the pjeg characters currently available ftes and here are my personal highlights:

I'm choosing to interpret the like/dislike indicators as Damon canonically being a good gift giver. You can't stop me

Damon getting really autistic about debate structure with Toshiko just to mess with her. Actually, Damon being autistic in general. With everyone

Eva literally using "I left the oven on" to exit a conversation

Damon aggressively demanding Diana tell him about herself and then getting mad when she asks if it's because they're friends

Wolfgang bringing up Grace completely unprompted within a minute of Damon arriving and having, quote, "a lot to say, that's for sure"

Everything Wenona ever says. She's so amusing to me

Eloise cursing Damon out for asking her if she's fatherless (and no, he does not understand what he did wrong)

"I hope whoever has [my blackmail] can be cool about it and confess... Maybe we can talk it out," -Desmond Hall. Smash cut to me screaming into my pillow

Ulysses being employed (one of my favorite things about him). That little boy is a grown ass man

Also it's kinda funny to me how the people Damon is nicest to are the unpopular nerds of the class. Probably because he's one of them <3

Damon walking up and sniffing Jett like that's a totally normal thing to do.. animal to animal communication

why does mark say unprompted that he doesn't like his name. writers you can't do this to me you can't make me care about this loser

I think this is an interesting image to show in that it depicts a situation where Arajin isn't afraid to jump into danger and try saving Matakara. I think what prevents him from doing this at other times has to do with him fearing the malice of other people.

the episode was interesting story-wise as always (aside from arajin having one extra cringe hetero moment not related to mahoro) it fell a bit short for me. maybe because it felt less crazy than the last two eps. Don’t get me wrong, it looked good as always, by no means disappointing- just between shots and the way the story plays out feels more… choppy?? something feels a bit off. I can’t explain it. If there’s something happening behind the scenes I hope gets remedied because I don’t want the production/story to go downhill because it has so much potential

On the positives: we get to see mahoro being an evil girlboss this episode, siguma squad and more delinquent gang lore seeing how differently each gang operates. the welcoming party you can tell they’re all having fun even tho they’re beating each other up

theories/questions for future episodes: does that mean if arajin is going to become marito’s successor will he fight matakara??? or will matakara fight marito or mahoro? it’d be interesting to see mahoro fight someone because she’s clearly capable of force and manipulation in other ways (slaps arajin, screams like a siren to get matakara to go away) Now that he knows the reason why arajin joined siguma I wonder how willing matakara is to fight for him/get him back.

I also wonder how the NG boys will play into the next/future ep. next episode is probably about the war between the gangs because that’s where the episode left off.

I’m literally so nervous for the english dub of bucchigiri not just the voice acting but also because there’s so many puns/play on word phrases in the japanese sub. I wonder how they’re going to translate it into english/english phrasing…
