People really like to default into things that sound like "remember our fandom is made of a lot of victims of ___ thing that will make them view this thing differently than how it actually is!"
Nah. Come on now. You're not polling people before you make this claim. It's assumption because of age and, I assume, trying to give people the benefit of the doubt.
This fandom is young, but I promise you the problems it has with characters with mental illness is pretty universal across mediums. Fandom likes pretty victims and graceful spirals. Fandom struggles with depictions of mental illness that can't be categorized into some trope or cliché. Fandom, throughout Tumblr's history, has a poor history with mental illness.
Trust me, the people projecting their negative relationships with parents onto Wilbur are the ones giving Fundy the worst daddy issues I've ever seen. It's not the people who are romanticizing one person's villain arc and writing Wilbur off as "aggressive" or "insane" or "manipulative" and in the same category as Dream (all things I saw today on twitter btw).
It's about empathy. A lot of the people I've seen romanticizing Tubbo's actions today have turned it into him grieving or lashing out or snapping after being the victim for so long. He's not a villain, even if he uttered the same words as Wilbur, because you can justify it with things other than "he's ill."
There's a reason the mentally ill man, the one you can't divorce from being called mentally ill with pretty justifications, is commonly drawn as a monster. Fandom doesn't think mental illness is pretty.
You guys better never shut up about Palestine. Even when they are liberated, your mouth better not close. Thousands upon thousands have died, and your words will never equal their lives, even if you spoke of them for thousands of years. You owe it to their memory, and to the people who live on, to never shut up.
my brother just asked to see my art so i showed him one of my fav drawings and he went "show me the good ones" 😫😬

I would love to hear ur wilbur niki thoughts if ur willing to share
ok i got like 4 asks instantly so i may as well. this is rambly and sooo poorly worded but i dont have time to be flowery lmfao. here goes.
c!niki is allowed to be angry. she’s allowed to be pissed. But uh. c!wilbur does not deserve to be ruthlessly berated and accused of manipulation when the real issue that nobody seems to acknowledge anymore is that she wanted his attention. and I think that’s what makes her and c!jack so tragically drawn to each other as well, feelings of abandonment and betrayal and whatnot.
niki's anger is misplaced but not unwarranted. she feels the need to direct all that malice she's been stewing in since Manberg towards him, and almost exclusively when he was dead. but I think her anger is once again not rly about how he "manipulated"(he did not. manipulate her in any form but ok) and hurt people she cared about. its much simpler and than that.
niki is mad because, like c!tommy, she still loves wilbur. and she hates that he is still so present in her mind, in her decisions, even the decision to join the syndicate. she just hates it.
I think the best direction for the confrontation to go is for her to START screaming at him, START throwing cold accusations and bitter insults at him, until she realizes she's just as bad as him. and i don't mean "bad" as in their shared capacity for violence, or their affinity to isolate themselves away from a lot of people they once considered friends. it's the simple fact that they are both damaged. and they both used this as the cowardly excuse to hurt others. and that is not wilburs fault. niki HAS to realize that.
this is why i like the idea of niki and tommys characters talking as well. they were arguably the most shaken by wilburs death. however, tommy, albeit in a weird spot with cwilbur right now, has seen this shared damage already. he knows wilbur doesn't hold true evil, just like niki, no matter what she might think or how much she plots with jack or who's cape she hides behind like a moral shield. "it's not about chances, it's about not giving up on the people you care about," right?
it goes like this. c!niki and c!wilbur both wanted to die. they both thought it was "never meant to be". but here they are. being. and what is more unifying than that shared contradiction. that despite it all, you are still here together. shouldn't that mean something to them? i dont know. but it does to me.
In case you lost it - a link to the eSIM donation guide. Even if you feel sick and powerless, you can at least do this. And even if you really, really can't donate, you can always at least share this and remind others.
