To celebrate Ian Leslie's long anticipated biography of John & Paul, here is a look at a vintage McLennon article written by Michael Gerber all the way back in 2015. Don't skip the comments. Gerber responds to them and they bring out even more insight.
From the article: "A love affair between John and Paul, ended abruptly in March 1968 and followed by Paul’s departure from Rishikesh, explains a lot that the conventional narrative doesn’t."
From the comments: "But this is an obsession for a significant subgroup of Beatle fandom, and a significantly thoughtful, well-read and (strange as it may seem given the conjectural nature of the topic) evidence-based subgroup at that. And I’m as interested in that subgroup as I am in the unanswerable question itself."
"With Ringo's self-explanatory 2004 collection Postcards from the Boys reproducing Lennon's missives to him, moreover, the absence of any letters from Lennon to McCartney is perhaps most conspicuous in Hunter Davies' book [The John Lennon Letters]. He tells me he did approach McCartney, however: "Paul said he had two letters from John, but they were personal."
Look at my sassy angel. He wants to know what's on your mind. Then he's going to tell you whether you're right or not. But either way he loves you and forgives you. ♥️
Ian Leslie's favorite songs that remind him of John + Paul ❤️❤️❤️
He has Jealous Guy and (Just Like) Starting Over on the list! That is huge! Those songs are both very important to the McLennon story. This is amazing. According to Paul, John told him that he wrote Jealous Guy because of the way he had treated Paul. It was a song of love, asking for forgiveness. (Just Like) Starting Over is also for Paul from John. As far as I know Paul has never talked about this, but his old Wings bandmate, Denny Laine, said that after John died, Paul locked himself in his studio, bawling and playing that song over and over. It obviously means a great deal to him.
One very important song that's missing is the collaboration between Paul and Carl Perkins, My Old Friend. The lyrics came to Carl, almost out of nowhere, and they reminded Paul so much of John that he started crying and excused himself. Carl felt bad but Linda reassured him that Paul finding an outlet for his emotions was exactly what he needed.
(Hopefully I didn't get any facts wrong. I'm having trouble finding everything I'm looking for tonight, to double check.)
Cat pic for the cat people out there. All five were rescues, my daughter and her friend grabbed the grey one at the top from a gas station when she was drinking out of the blue washer fluid/water near the pumps. I'm fine with pedigree cats too, though, no hate. 😊
Did this a second time and got better main results but the questions are weird as hell and for me, comedy should be much, much higher. Mystery science theater 3000 is my absolute favorite TV show and movie of all time. I like funny. The recommendations they gave were good, some of them were already on my TBW list.
Here are my initial recommendations: Buffy, Dresden Files, Merlin (3 great choices), Lowlifes (haven't heard of it but she looks like a vampire?), Synchronic (never heard of that one), Better Watch Out (maybe more vampires?), Cake Boss (hell yeah, I love cooking shows. If they had picked the great British baking show or Nailed It that would've been astonishingly accurate), We Got Time Today (never heard of this one either), The Real Side Chicks of Los Angeles (I would never believe this was a real show if I hadn't seen it in the list. Side chicks 🤣🤣)
