Asking for a friend.
"God forbid you stop and ask for directions.." Rivers rolled his eyes. I was about to protest but the sudden appearance of a rabbit in the middle of the dark road made me slam hard on the brakes.
The creature cowered as the fender stopped inches from its trembling body. Once assured it wouldn't become the day's freshest roadkill, it gazed at us with huge saucer eyes.
Rivers spat a curse, startled by the sudden stop. I was more interested in the rabbit's unnatural copper colored eyes. With the haunting mechanical jauntiness of a child's wind up toy, it quickly rose up on its hind legs, shifting shape to a willowy tiny humanoid with tapered ears and a mouth full of tiny maliciously pointed teeth.
The Pooka hissed ominously, clawed fingers pulling itself up onto the hood of the car. I sighed as Rivers went for his gun.
"Should we ask him for directions then?"
New year, new feral me.
