what if i exploded
i think we need to talk about this unit thematically
i know it's "haha april fool's day, they're stuck in a futuristic city and rui wants to study the silly sekai aliens" but like... hear me out
im pretty sure these 4 were picked because they all have one major thing in common— the fact that they were failed by society.
kaito v1 was a commercial failure on release, to the point where other vocal synth companies looked at his low sales and consequently made less male vocal synths— leading to the large gender gap in vocal synths that we still have today (although its less than what it was ~5 yrs ago imo). i think clpl actually considered this when picking kaito for this unit solely because it's vbs kaito— the kaito that most strongly resembles old fanon kaito in how he can easily be described as a carefree dumbass that loves icecream.
rui was ostracized his whole life for being "dangerous" with his shows by his classmates, as well as being isolated because of how he was "different" from the other kids (implied neurodivergent). this lead to rui struggling with depression as well as a myriad of other issues (such as his abandonment issues) later on.
akito was ALSO ostracized for being too serious about his passions and having a "bad attitude", which lead to him developing an inferiority complex as well as leading to him essentially being overly polite to strangers because of his past trauma where he was publicly humiliated, had his reputation ruined, and brought disgrace to a place he loved just for accidentally spilling water on someone 💀 (find a way out is so real) ((also i choose to see akito as neurodivergent mainly because of how his behavior is framed idk i feel like him being overly polite is him masking, esp. when u compare his behavior between different people.. recent example: how he acts around rui vs how he acts around mafuyu for example)) (((also, he's rui's narrative foil, so it just makes a lot of sense???)))
and then there's haruka, who was so close to being the "perfect" idol but couldn't because of her trauma from hurting mai— she was unable to meet the expectations of being an idol under the pressure of probably not only her managers but also the large fanbase she always wanted to give hope to
I've seen something similar to this where Tsukasa has a crush on Rui and the plushies in the sekai start to become more physically affectionate with him
i love the fact that the wonderlands sekai is created from tsukasa's feelings, and i like to imagine how much his feelings can affect the sekai and vocaloids that inhabit it.
for instance, usa-chan is in the sekai, but what else? do you think there are some of rui's robots? like the dragon one from their new years show, or the zombie ones from the halloween show. it's so fun to think about.
i imagine if tsukasa had a crush on rui (using him as an example because i love rks), it would affect the vocaloids, especially miku and kaito, since they are the two that are the most strongly connected to the sekai. would miku become more clingy as a manifestation of tsukasas thoughts and feelings? would kaito tend to pay more attention to him? (obviously neither in a romantic way between them and rui, as they are just tsukasa's feelings.)
also, since tsukasa was able to create an entire world, do you think his feelings would be able to manipulate the sekai? if he was going through a hard time, would it become a bit more empty?
again, if he had a crush on rui, would it be able to create a small space just for them two? a place for them to relax and cuddle and all things like that? i love the idea of that and i need to know how much of an influence tsukasas feelings have on the sekai, especially because he is the sole creator of it.

🎈🌟 How to be vulnerable
(aka yap session about rui and tsukasa’s trust in and importance to each other)
🎈 ♡ 🌟
In Rui’s case…
His playful somewhat childish demeanor when around Tsukasa is an act of vulnerability in and of itself in my opinion. Toki Shunichi has even said the directors had told him when recording to use a more playful tone whenever Rui is talking to Tsukasa😭
The fact that some of Rui’s closest friends (Nene and Mizuki) can pinpoint the ways that he’s changed since meeting Tsukasa shows just how much Rui confides in him, it honestly makes me kind of emotional.
He gladly shows Tsukasa the mannerisms he was previously shunned and alienated for, because he’s been shown a place where he belongs through Tsukasa, and he trusts Tsukasa with his true self.
Rui, who was prepared to let himself be a lost cause. Who was ready to accept loneliness forever. Who was fully prepared to give up if it meant the people around him would be happy. And then to have some crazy ass get down on one knee and hold out his hand to you. To show you that you didn’t have to be alone and that he was willing to give you somewhere where you were loved and happy and trusted by him, when all you’ve heard your whole life is people thinking your dangerous and weird…
In Tsukasa’s case…
I think Rui being his age is something really relieving for him, because he doesn’t have to be a big brother or a role model or a senpai. He can just be Tsukasa. And he trusts Rui enough to show that more childish side of him that he didn’t really get to show anyone else before now.
There’s no expectation to be the big brother, the role model, the senpai, because of the trust he’s placed in Rui, which Rui of course reciprocates. For Tsukasa, I think that’s quite vulnerable in and of itself.
Tsukasa, while oblivious, I think expresses his love for Rui in his own ways. This may be delusional to some people but I think it’s quite accurate to say Tsukasa also fell victim to love at first sight, maybe even moreso than Rui.
I’m not sure how to articulate it in better words but Tsukasa expresses so much through shows and in turn is able to understand someone else’s show. He’s said “I know that if they [Rui’s ideas] come to life, they’ll always turn out wonderful”
The fact that his vision of the “best show ever” is one with Rui’s directions. I think that’s a testament to how much he loves and appreciates and trusts Rui, even if he never outright says the words.
can we talk about how much Tsukasa has affected Rui's life.
before Rui and Tsukasa met, Rui had convinced himself that nobody would ever want to work with him because of how people had been avoiding and viewing him as a dangerous person since childhood. If we go back to the Wonderland x Showtime main story, I believe Rui had trust issues and that's why he was so hesitant in accepting Tsukasa's offer to join the troupe both when he first asked, and after the nenekasa argument scene. Fast forward to the first WXS event and Rui's first focus event, It's On! Wonder Halloween, Rui definitely has abandonment issues, hence is why he started subconsciously holding himself back once he accidentally hurt Tsukasa. Because, in his words, "On a subconscious level, I must have been so afraid that Tsukasa would start hating me and leave, like everyone else did... Somewhere along the way, I started to press the brakes out of not wanting to lose what took me so long to find..." I STARTED TO PRESS THE BRAKES OUT OF NOT WANTING TO LOSE WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG TO FIND. Tsukasa was one of the first people that took genuine interest in Rui's inventions and stage directing and he fulfills any direction asked of him no matter how taxing it is because Tsukasa fully trusts Rui and knows that he wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt anyone. Flash forward to the A Once-In-A-Lifetime Pandemonium!? event, Tsukasa played a vivid part in Rui's character arc. Previously, Rui had been pushed into depression due to how the people around him ostracized him and he felt as if nobody around him would ever be able to understand him, but with Tsukasa's help, he was able to break out of his shell and actually let himself be happy for once without holding onto the negative burdens of his past. He was able to let that go and actually make friends outside of WXS, all because Tsukasa had shown him that there are people that are actually willing to put their trust into him. The mutual faith and trust they both have in each other is cray cray Rui "I had always thought that I could never be properly understood by anyone around me. As I started doing shows at Wonder Stage with everyone, my way of thinking and feelings began to change. Now, I am able to understand someone without the need for putting on shows, and I've come to value the idea of laughing alongside others. That's why—Tsukasa-kun. Thank you for giving me the chance to change." Kamishiro
According to an article in CGWORLD magazine, during the concept stages for Tsukasa’s King of Smiles costume, a joker card design was initially proposed based on it being the trump card. However, this was later scrapped in favor of a King design.
Additionally, a phoenix motif was also considered (based on Phoenix Wonderland, according to design notes), though this was also dropped. This may have inspired the joker/jester-themed Hidden Circus set being paired with Tsukasa’s third event, Towards the Phoenix at the Sky’s Edge.

guys somebody please respond this is urgent. do you think that he would wear black eyeliner instead of red if he was in n25 instead
"Oh, my favorite Project Sekai character is the one who has purple hair and can speak English! You know, the one who was once considered a child prodigy? The one whose problems were inadvertently caused by their intelligence because nobody around them could properly understand them? The one who once was desperately searching for a purpose in life because they felt as if they had no idea what they truly wanted to do? Actually, they *did* know what they truly wanted to do, they just had no way of supporting it because of external factors. But you know, the one who gave up on hoping that their life would take a turn for the better? The one who was only able to identify their real beliefs due to the help of their respective group members? The one who struggles with understanding their feelings and emotions?" ??? WHICH ONE !!!!!!!
REAL OH MY GODDD . i die a bit inside every time i see the fanon interpretation of him I think everybody's forgetting that the first Wonderlands x Showtime event ever was about Rui accidentally hurting Tsukasa with one of his inventions and even though Kasa insisted that he was alright, they had to stage a whole ass intervention for him because Rui was holding back on his directing out of fear Emu and Tsukasa would ABANDON HIM He literally also created Robo-Nene for Nene in an attempt to combat her social anxiety, PLUS he invited her to join WxS because, in his words, it's way better compared to staying inside all day and because he was aware of her passion for theater . HE'S SO CONSIDERATE !!! Are people also forgetting that he argued with Emu's brothers in Smile Of a Dreamer because they kept looking down on and insulting Emu's dreams ??? Are people ALSO forgetting he kept a close eye on Kasa when he was fasting during Towards the Phoenix at the Sky's Edge and said he'd step in if he thought it was getting out of hand ??? Rui literally also got separated from the rest of the group and got lost trying to help an old lady cross a busy street during Once-In-a-Lifetime Pandemonium?! 😭😭 Not to mention he (and the rest of wandashow) helped a lost child find her parents during Popping In My Heart! THIS GUY IS JUST A PURPLE HAIRED THEATER KID WHO LIKES INVENTING AND DISLIKES VEGETABLES, HE ISN'T MEAN OR SADISTIC WHATSOEVER, IT ISN'T HARD TO READ THE STORIES !!! "oh, rui is into cannibalism and torture!!!" ? this is the same guy who's called himself selfish multiple times for just wanting to perform with his friends and for wanting people to like him, are we talking about the same dude rn
literally every time i see a canon thing about Rui i become more and more shocked at how anyone could ever DREAM of writing him as some sort of sadistic monster
he's literally so cute. what the fuck. absolutely adorable young man
i know i tend to write him a bit more mischievous than he might be in canon for comedic purposes but the LOVE he has within him is literally the most important part of his soul and it won't ever go away
he's the type to be a little shit by, i don't know, putting neon orange ink in all his schoolmates' pens one day for a bit of a laugh. NOT by taking pleasure in seeing ANYONE hurt, my God??
these came to me in a dream
I'm the normalest Wonderlands x Showtime fan out there ! (and the biggest. move over Azusawa Kohane.)
