Gideon Nav as St Sebastian by Juan Carreno de Miranda. Such a fun study to draw her as😎
fuck "girl lunch" fuck "girl math" a woman is a hairy animal who sweats and grunts and excretes and hungers and gets wrinkly and dies eventually. you have to love that.
For science, I collected what each of the Houses hears when Gideon speaks to them for the first time.
Seventh: “Yo. Step off.” (when Cytherea faints)
Sixth: “Then get off your ass and help me.”
Fifth: never got to hear her talk :(
Fourth: thee line of all time, which is to say, “Did you know that if you put the first three letters of your last name with the first three letters of your first name, you get ‘Sex Pal’?”
Eighth: “They had names, you lily-livered, tooth-coloured asshole, and if you want to make a thing about it, I warn you that I’m in the kind of mood that can only be alleviated by walloping you.”
Corona: “No. I thought their arms would all flop around.” (in response to Corona asking if she’s seen a necro hold a sword before)
Ianthe/Babs, probably also the Second: “Why?” (after they gather to confront Cyth about Pro’s head)
The reason categorizing fanfiction by tropes works is because there's already an established setting, cast of characters, and theme in the original work, so when people write fanfics they're building sand castles in pre-existing beaches, but when you advertise your book as "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" it says nothing about what the premise is, who the characters are, or what the book is actually trying to say. That's not to say that books containing stuff like "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" can't be absolutely fantastic books, but if you only advertise by listing off tropes that are inherently cookie-cutter then you're implying (whether intentionally or not) that there's nothing interesting or memorable about the book besides smashing tropes together like you're playing with action figures.
smth you have to just internalise about nutrition is that people who get famous for obsessing about it on the internet are almost always of an economic class & health status where actual nutrient deficiencies are not a real practical risk for them, & for the poor and medically at-risk people for whom such deficiencies are a genuine current threat, the #1 thing that would help is simply consistent access to a sufficient amount of calories, and secondarily access to as wide a variety of foods as possible
you POSSESS gideon’s sword? you hunt down and try to kill her girlfriend like the prey? oh! oh! jail for mother! jail for mother for one thousand years!!
When the days of the week on the calendar being "terrorist names" was going around I laughed because it was so, so ridiculously stupid. When a plate of dates was presented as "proof of terrorist activity" I looked at my own plate of dates and laughed. But the implications and the effect of those accusation, no matter how incredulously stupid they are, aren't funny in the slightest. I hate that our language is "proof" of terrorism. That a popular snack here is "proof". I hate that people believe anything tangentially related to being Arab is a sign of evil. I hate that whenever I see any recording containing Arabic in it, we scramble to translate it as quick as possible, not even to share information, but because we know if we're a second too late someone will put vile words in their mouths to dehumanize them and we need to beat them to the punch.
