โ€” Jonathan Cook (@Jonathan_K_Cook) March 15, 2024

Hostages tortured to death. Parents executed in front of their children. Doctors beaten. Babies murdered. Sexual assault weaponised. No, not Hamas crimes. This is part of an ever-growing list of documented atrocities committed by Israel in the five months since 7 October โ€“ quite separate from the carpet bombing of 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza and a famine induced by Israelโ€™s obstruction of aid. And yet while the western establishment media has been chock full of the most lurid allegations of savagery directed against Hamas, sometimes with little or no supporting evidence, Israeli atrocities are excused or quickly forgotten. Accusations against Hamas are endlessly reheated to paint a picture of a supremely dangerous and bestial militant group, in turn rationalising the slaughter and starvation of Gazaโ€™s population to โ€œeradicateโ€ it as a terrorist organisation. But equally barbarous atrocities committed by Israel โ€“ not in the heat of battle, but in cold blood โ€“ are treated as unfortunate, isolated incidents that cannot be connected, that paint no picture, that reveal nothing of import about the military that carried them out. If Hamasโ€™ crimes were so savage and sadistic they still need to be reported months after they took place, why does the establishment media never feel the need to express equal horror and indignation at equivalent or worse acts of cruelty and sadism being inflicted by Israel on Gaza โ€“ not five months ago, but right now? Israel's torture of doctors, its sexual assaults of Palestinian women, it's leaving premature babies to die after its forces stormed a hospital. Where is the outrage? This is part of a pattern of behaviour by the western media that leads to only one possible deduction: Israelโ€™s five-month-long attack on Gaza is not being reported. Rather, it is being selectively narrated โ€“ and for the most obscene of purposes. Through consistent and glaring failures in their coverage, establishment media โ€“ including supposedly liberal outlets, from the BBC and CNN to the Guardian and New York Times โ€“ have smoothed the way for Israel to carry out mass slaughter in Gaza, what the World Court has assessed as plausibly a genocide. The role of the media has not been to keep us, their audiences, informed about one of the greatest crimes in living memory. It has been to buy time for US President Joe Biden to keep arming his most useful of client states in the oil-rich Middle East, and to do so without damaging his prospects for re-election in Novemberโ€™s US presidential vote. If Russian President Vladimir Putin was a madman and a barbarous war criminal for invading Ukraine, as every western media outlet agrees, what does that make Israeli officials, when every one of them supports far worse atrocities in Gaza, directed overwhelmingly at civilians? And more to the point, what does that make Biden and the US political class for materially backing Israel to the hilt: sending bombs, vetoing demands for a ceasefire at the United Nations, and freezing desperately needed aid? Worrying about the optics, the president expresses his discomfort, but he carries on helping Israel regardless. While western politicians and commentators worry about some imaginary existential threat those brief events of five months ago pose to the nuclear-armed state of Israel, Israel is quite literally wiping Gaza off the map day by day, quite undisturbed.

Torture, executions, babies left to die, sexual abuseโ€ฆ These are Israelโ€™s crimes

โ€œFINALLY YOU LOSER WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONGโ€ - Someone Probably (valid Tbh)

akina helped izuku move his all might paraphernalia into his dorm. all his classmates except (you guessed it!) katsuki were happy to see her.

the night after passing her Provisional Hero License Exam, akina originally had plans to watch old all might videos with izuku, but when he told her about his meet up with katsuki, she ended up aimlessly walking around campus. thatโ€™s when she heard the overwhelming sound of katsukiโ€™s explosion. she turned around and ran back to where sheโ€™d just passed all might.

โ€œtheyโ€™re fighting. izu-kun and katsuki.โ€

and though she initially planned to follow him, akina stood still and watched the retired hero run off. instead, she walked to her dorm and laid down.

when she woke up, it was to the sound of incessant ringing coming from her phone. without checking the caller id, she answered.

โ€œhel-โ€œ

โ€œWHY DIDNโ€™T YOU TELL ME THAT LOSER GOT HIS QUIRK FROM ALL MIGHT!โ€

โ€œโ€ฆโ€

she hung up on him.

when it came to it, akina had some interesting choices for her work study.

โ€œhey, hayashi! long time no see! who are you thinking of doing your work study with?โ€

โ€œoh. hello, ashido. i donโ€™t think i wanna go back to hosu. i might check out one of the agencies that i got internship offers from. maybe ryukyuโ€™s agency or best jeanistโ€™s-โ€œ

โ€œNO WAY IN HELL!โ€

she ended up going to best jeanistโ€™s agency.

she noticed izukuโ€™s mood was off during the first few days of his of his own work study. however, she didnโ€™t get much time to dwell on it before sheโ€™d gotten a phone call from a distraught mitsuki bakugou.

thereโ€™d been a house fire that night. her mom didnโ€™t make it out.

when katsukiโ€™s mom called him, heโ€™d rolled his eyes but reluctantly answered. he wasnโ€™t prepared for her to tell him, in hysterics, that their neighbor had died.

โ€œkatsuki, i need you to listen to me. that girl has no one, now. just for now, i need you to be a hero for her.โ€

โ€œtch. shut it, hag, i know.โ€

it wasnโ€™t long after she got that she heard the disruption that is katsuki bakugou.

โ€œGET OUT OF MY DAMN WAY, EXTRAS!โ€

โ€œyou arenโ€™t even in our class! what are you doing here?โ€

โ€œSHUT IT AND TELL ME WHERE BARNEYโ€™S ROOM IS!โ€

she became a shell of herself after that.

after the Shie Hassaikai Raid, izuku checked on her everyday (katsuki wouldnโ€™t let him leave the 1-a dorms while he was crying), but it didnโ€™t do much.

katsuki would go out to the kitchen and prep three meals every morning to make sure akina had food for the day. on days when he had his Remedial Courses, heโ€™d ask make izuku to deliver the food.

after staff found out, her work study was promptly ended (prior to all the work studies being canceled), and sheโ€™d been excused from class.

sheโ€™d returned to class a week later, hair much shorter and choppier, heavy bags under her eyes, and a dead expression on her face.

even though it was sad to see, everyone had almost gotten used to her lack of expression over the recent weeks. so much so that it genuinely shocked them when her eyes widened and her face flushed at the sight of shinsou as he joined class a and b for Joint Training.

โ€œoouu hayashi~ you got the hots for shinsou?โ€

โ€œ.. kaminari, shouldnโ€™t you be with your class?โ€

akina got grouped with pony tsunotori, juzo honenuki, and tetsutetsu tetsutetsu. she held her own against ojirou until iida managed to get her into the irredeemable jail cell, where she sat until the time ran out.

she enjoyed watching the last two matches, not at all surprised by class 1-aโ€™s swift win in round four.

what did surprise her, though, was the newest addition to izukuโ€™s quirk.

after the final round, akina quickly tracked down her closest friend, not at all surprised to see katsuki right there with him.

life was mostly uneventful until the Paranormal Liberation War.

akina was helping evacuate when izuku took off without so much as an explanation. before she could blink, katsuki was gone, too. even though she wanted to go after them, she knew she had an obligation to help the civilians get out of harms way.

as the scene got progressively more chaotic, akina pushed to help everyone she could. so many were stuck under debris from gigantomachiaโ€™s storm.

while she was pointing an older woman in the direction of the nearest rescue tent, she spotted a huge chunk of an apartment building falling.

two small children sat crying right in the landing zone.

before she could think, akina was standing in between of the kids with her hands above her head. most of the concrete turned to dust and fell smoothly. however, there was a rather large piece that didnโ€™t disintegrate until after it hit akina in the head. as disoriented as she was, she made sure to get the kids to safety. she wasnโ€™t even gonna get looked over until one of her peers said something to her.

โ€œdissolvere, youโ€™re bleeding! what happened?โ€

ears ringing, the girl turned to look at the hero approaching her. their mouth was moving, but the girl couldnโ€™t hear a thing besides an incessant ringing. insisting she was fine, akina went to continue her job.

she didnโ€™t get far before everything went black.

when she came to, she was in a hospital bed, vlad king seated next to her.

โ€œyouโ€™ve been out for a few days. the head injury shouldโ€™ve only kept you out for a day max, but apparently you havenโ€™t been taking care of yourself.โ€

while her homeroom teacher continued to lecture her, akina noticed the far off look on his face.

โ€œwhat happened?โ€

โ€œUH? I JUST TOLD YOU WHA-โ€œ

โ€œnot to me. what happened?โ€

with a heavy heart, the hero gave his student a run down of everything that transpired. from the heroes storming and evacuating the hospital to the 1-a knuckleheads students getting caught in the middle of it all, he told her everything.

after hearing of the gains and losses, akina yanked the iv out of her arm and ran to the room izuku was in. all but snatching the door open, she came to an abrupt stop at seeing inko midoriya.

upon seeing her closest friend seemingly lifeless and his distressed mother, akinaโ€™s heart felt heavy. before inko could get a word out, akina was on her knees, forehead meeting the floor.

โ€œiโ€™m so sorry i wasnโ€™t there to protect him.โ€

after everything had mostly settled and all the students were safely on campus, they had another problem to deal with.

izuku had disappeared.

he wrote letters to all his classmates explaining the circumstances of his quirk and how he was a danger to them all.

after promptly turning the piece of paper to ash, katsuki set off to find akina. if anyone knew where that bastard was, it would be her.

he made quick work of getting to the 1-b dorms and found her bedroom door cracked open. he pushed his way in and immediately saw the balcony door open, the curtains flowing in the window.

before he could even think, katsuki was on the balcony looking over the edge to see.. nothing.

โ€œyou just couldnโ€™t wait to see me laid out on the ground, could you?โ€

katsuki gave himself whiplash with how fast he turned around. tucked in the corner, legs bunched up and head resting on her knees, sat akina. beside her was a piece of paper.

โ€œwhere the hell is he, hayashi?โ€

before giving her a chance to respond (she wouldnโ€™t have regardless), the blonde picked up the letter she received from his longest friend rival. it was noticeably different from the ones he and his classmates had recieved.

Akina-chan,

Iโ€™m not going to tell you anything you already know. I just want you to understand that I have to do this. We both know that the league wants me. I need to leave. Iโ€™m so sorry to leave you like this. I know if I did this face to face, I wouldnโ€™t be able to leave. I love you more than you know. Youโ€™ve been my best friend, my biggest support, my sister for my whole life. All I want from you is to take care of yourself. Put yourself first. Youโ€™ve been looking after me for years, and that isnโ€™t fair to you. When I come back, Iโ€™ll make sure to return the favor. But for now, I just need you to make sure youโ€™re okay.

Your best friend,

WAIT bc i kinda hc akina having a mini crush on hitoshi shinsou. imagine every time she sees him she blushes a little bit and as the story progresses katsuki hates it. im just thinking abt her seeing him at the joint training and she doesnโ€™t speak to him at all she just stares and her face is all flushed (itโ€™s got nothing to do with the cold air) and katsuki genuinely tweaking over it.

not gonna lie, enemies to lovers is so easy when it comes to kacchan.

akina hayashi. grey eyes. bright purple hair. has a quirk similar to tomura shigarakiโ€™s. anything she touches disintegrates, but she has the ability to reverse it as long as she doesnโ€™t wait too long.

she had to learn that the hard way.

shortly after her quirk manifested, her parents got a divorce (the whole thing was so nasty), and as an only child, it became just her and her mom.

katsukiโ€™s been akinaโ€™s next door neighbor since the womb. under normal circumstances, this would lead the two to become friends.

the problem lies with izuku being akinaโ€™s best friend.

she was so protective of him that she begged her mom to put her in a judo class.

โ€œi wanna be able to protect my friend, mama!โ€

it was the most passionate sheโ€™d been about anything since her dad left.

akina was walking izuku home from school when they encountered the sludge monster. she did her best to hold him off, all might showing up just in time.

she couldnโ€™t move fast enough to stop her friend from latching onto the hero as he took off. with a sigh, she continued her walk to the midoriya household.

an explosion in the opposite direction caught her attention. she didnโ€™t plan on making a detour, but if she knew anything about izuku midoriya (and she knew everything about izuku midoriya), she knew heโ€™d be there.

she pushed her way through the crowd of bystanders and caught sight of what was causing the ruckus. the spiky blonde hair and bright red eyes peeking from the muddy green sludge made her stomach cave.

her body felt stuck. it wasnโ€™t until a flash of green ran through the chaos that she took off to help.

for izuku, sheโ€™d do anything.

she felt those beady eyes stare her down as she forced her hands through the mess. it seemed like no matter how much she was able to disintegrate, itโ€™d come back tenfold.

after all might put an end, the two instigating teens got chewed out by the adults.

โ€œwhat were you thinking? do you have a death wish?โ€

โ€œat least we tried to help. thatโ€™s more than what can be said about you pros.โ€

she shut that down quick.

during their walk home (for real this time), she was properly introduced to small might.

after izuku committed to training with the hero, akina was there everyday working with him. if he was really determined to go to ua, she had to be there by his side.

after passing the Entrance Exam, akina hayashi ended up in class 1-b, much too far from izuku midoriya and katsuki bakugou in her own professional opinion.

she got requests from both inko midoriya and mitsuki bakugou to look after their boys.

she made no effort to befriend her classmates. outside of class, she acted as izukuโ€™s shadow. she didnโ€™t say much, but she always there. everyone thought she was his girlfriend for a while.

the tension between akina and katsuki was tense. every time she saw izuku at the end of the day, likely covered in bruises and bandages, sheโ€™d approach with a soft look on her face, find out it was from katsuki, and offer to kill him.

โ€œWUH- kina-chan you canโ€™t go around saying things like that! people will think youโ€™re being serious!โ€

โ€œbut i am, izu-kun.โ€

during the UA Sports Festival, it didnโ€™t take long for akina to lose sight of her friend. during the cavalry battle, she got grouped with neito monoma.

after her team got eliminated, she waited for izuku with some of the other class 1-a students. the boys were enamored with her aura and the girls were mildly intimidated by it.

it made her anxious to see izuku fight and not be able to do anything to help him, but his classmates were confident that he could handle himself well.

she mostly kept her eyes forward, but when uraraka came back from her round against katsuki, she turned her attention to the girl.

โ€œโ€ฆโ€

โ€œum.. hi?โ€

โ€œ.. you did good.โ€

something about the way she said it had everyoneโ€™s except katsukiโ€™s faces turning red.

akina ended up working under a hero in hosu for her internship. she tried to use it as an excuse to not worry about her friend for too long. the beeping on her phone though, ensured that that wouldnโ€™t be the case.

she excused herself and took off, running in the direction of the blinking dot on her screen.

she ran towards the alley and came to a stop just as todoroki was rounding the corner. the sight of her closest friend, his classmate, and a pro hero all laid unmoving and the Hero Killer ready to strike.

it wasnโ€™t long after her arrival that they were able to take the man down. thatโ€™s not to say they came out of it unscathed.

they were all wrapped in bandages, and akina had a long gash going down the side of her face.

after that, akina essentially became an honorary 1-a student; she was invited to spend time with them outside of school as her own person and not an extension of izuku.

katsukiโ€™s eye started twitching when he found out class 1-b would be going to the same Training Camp.

while at the forest, akina was tasked with improving the restoration of things sheโ€™s disintegrated and forcing the pathway of the destruction.

being in the same vicinity as her genuinely had bakugo tweaking, and kirishima and kaminari thought it was hilarious.

โ€œman, i donโ€™t think iโ€™ve seen you this worked up in a long time.โ€

โ€œand sheโ€™s not even bothering you! itโ€™s almost like you have a cru-โ€

the explosion shook the ground.

sheโ€™d been hiding in a tree when the smell of fire hit her nose. katsuki and shoto had just gotten past her. she jumped down and made quick work of joining the two (safety in numbers and all that) and one of her fallen classmates. it didnโ€™t take long for them to come face to face with moonfish.

getting permission from the hero to use their quirks was unexpected, but hearing that katsuki was one of the targets made akinaโ€™s blood run cold.

as shoto started putting up ice walls, akina grabbed the kid off of his back and made something of a barricade by breaking down the ground just enough to hide the boy.

she soon joined the fight, turning the blades coming out of the manโ€™s mouth to dust as they made contact.

she and shoto held their own until dark shadow came charging at them.

the group of students kept pushing through the forest, eventually running into asui and uraraka.

in the end, katsuki ended up in the hands of the league of villains.

akina, moving on muscle memory, ended up riding to the hospital in the ambulance with izuku.

when inko showed up, akina got down on her knees and apologized profusely for failing to protect her son.

she did the same thing at the bakugou household.

akina, to everyoneโ€™s surprise, joined the group for the Hideout Raid. she said it was to keep an eye on izuku.

he knew it was a lie.

it was nerve wrecking seeing mt lady, best jeanist, tiger, and gang orca fall against the masked man.

they were all frozen in fear until the sound of the angry blonde rang through the air.

the teenagers eventually came up with a plan.

akina reached for the ground, using her quirk to disintegrate the concrete under the boy. he was quick to notice it.

after the boys took off down todorokiโ€™s ice ramp, akina stayed put just long enough to see katsuki shoot himself into the sky and grab kirishimaโ€™s hand.

after she knew he was safe, she ran in the direction of the rubble to help those in need.

it took her a while, but she was able to help civilians get to safety, disintegrating everything in her path.

when she got away from the chaos, she called izuku.

โ€œkina-chan! where ar-โ€

โ€œizu-kun. are you and katsuki okay? are you somewhere safe?โ€

she stood by, holding her breath as she watched all might go against all for one on the big screen.

as she watched the hero bulk up for what was probably the last time and raise his fist in the air, akina felt her legs give out, and for the first time in a long time, she cried.

she found the rest of the first years and went with them to drop katsuki off at the police station before going home.

she stayed in her room for a few days, not even coming out when vlad king came by to speak to her mother about the new dorms.

the day she went out the check the mail was, coincidentally, the same day all might and eraserhead were visiting the bakugou residence. katsuki had just finished a conversation with all might.

โ€œkatsuki.โ€

he stopped, but he didnโ€™t look at her.

โ€œiโ€™m glad youโ€™re okay.โ€

she then turned to all might, bowing at a ninety degree angle, and thanked him sincerely for protecting japan.

katsuki walked back inside his house, his face warm.

(not gonna lie this is probably the first time theyโ€™ve ever had an interaction that had nothing to do with izuku)
